Is it ok to wear (fancy) trainers to a wedding?

We are going to a friends wedding, it is on a fancy golf course type venue.

I have 2 children I will need to supervise, cannot last in heels for longer than 30 minutes... health problems, mainly physical mean I have extensive pain when active for long periods of time.

I have a lovely 1950's dress I am wearing, I've found some lovely blue d.c / converse style shoes which would suit the dress but worry how I look

Is it too informal?

I like your original choice! Why do women have to wear uncomfortable shoes? Especially if you have DC to chase after.

I really don't get many of the replies on this thread! The wedding is about the bride and groom saying their vows to one another. I couldn't care less what people wore to my wedding because it wasn't about them it was about us. Are there really brides and grooms who care what other people wear on their feet??? When the actual emphasis of a wedding is on the vows???

OP I think you'll look gorgeous in your dress and blue DC shoes. You would've been more than welcome to have rocked up at my wedding wearing that combo and I would have been incredibly pleased that you were there to share in my day.

Wear whatever feels comfy. If the style police want to tut, let them.
I have wide feet and like Reiker sandals and Allegria are very comfy too.

The Allegria Katie boots are great for Autumn/Winter.

It's your friend's wedding. they know that going to their wedding will cause you pain because of your health problems then they won't give a shiny shit what shoes you wear, they'll just be happy that you've gone to the effort of being part of their day. Wear the trainers if they are comfy.

No one is suggesting the OP wear uncomfortable shoes. There are other options which are comfortable, other than trainers.

JennaOfEluria · 29/07/2019 21:47

If your friend is getting married at a posh golf course type venue please check if they have a dress code before deciding on anything trainer like. Whilst some golf clubs have been dragged into the 21st century others would happily turn you away for being dressed inappropriately.

Hope you manage to find something. Beautiful shoes and I have a fractious relationship. I love them, they hate me!

IvanaPee · 29/07/2019 21:49

I wouldn’t have said that was the type of dress you get away with trainers with @DewDropsonKittens. Sorry!

Ember12 · 29/07/2019 21:53

Wear the trainers, I've been to many a wedding with the bride and bridesmaids in converse

This is a jolly good point. My cousin was turned away from a family event at a ridiculously snooty golf club because men were not admitted to a particular bar without a tie.

I have two pairs of these Fitflop Allegro Ballerinas. They are amazingly cushiony inside and smart looking:

There's also a sale on here..

Don’t wear your original choice if you need arch support. They will kill you.

Dd (size 2.5 extra wide, hypermobile high arches) tends to wear Skechers or M & S shoes.

BlueSkiesLies · 29/07/2019 22:16

Tennis shoes + pretty dress is very in fashion. Totally fine to wear to a wedding.

Those are so way more ugly than fancy trainers.

CountFosco · 29/07/2019 22:21

I think flats are fine but agree that a sequinned trainer will look more dressed up. Have a look on enbrogue for some ideas.

RavenLG · 29/07/2019 22:24

Are you close to the bride / groom. Just ask them. I’m encouraging people to wear flats / trainers to our wedding as it’s a tipi venue in a field, outdoor wedding so your fancy heels will be ruined in the mud.
I’ve seen loads of people wear trainers to weddings lately even more formal / hotel type weddings. The only thing I would say is I don’t think the blue go with the dress. A lace up low top in white would look better imo.

CountFosco · 29/07/2019 22:25

Also trainers at a wedding. Perfectly reasonable. The biggest regret of my wedding is that I didn't wesr white DMs under my dress.

ohcanada · 29/07/2019 22:25

Horrific, sorry OP.

Cat you find a simple and comfortable flat sandal in a nude leather or colour to match?

namechangeninjaevervigilant · 29/07/2019 22:32

I think your shoes are lovely. With a nice swing dress you will look retro and chic.

If you really wanted to you could buy some Swarovski crystals online and bling them up a bit, just a row around the plimsoll line or a few random ones dotted about would dress them up a bit. You could buy a bag and some proper crystal glue for around £10.

RavenLG · 29/07/2019 22:33

My best advice would be don’t trust MN for show advise tbh. You only have to look at the “Pretty but comfortable sandals” thread (and every single link on this thread) to know the collective MN style is fucking atrocious Grin

GloriaSnockers · 29/07/2019 22:35

Wear what you want, I didn’t notice what any of my wedding guests were wearing on their feet.

FrogFairy · 29/07/2019 22:56

OP as a fellow owner of problem feet I say wear something you know will not cripple you with pain.

If I were the bride I would not give a fuck if you turned up in tartan Cosyfeet slippers, I would just want my lovely friend to come and share my special day.
