Is it ok to wear (fancy) trainers to a wedding?

We are going to a friends wedding, it is on a fancy golf course type venue.

I have 2 children I will need to supervise, cannot last in heels for longer than 30 minutes... health problems, mainly physical mean I have extensive pain when active for long periods of time.

I have a lovely 1950's dress I am wearing, I've found some lovely blue d.c / converse style shoes which would suit the dress but worry how I look

Is it too informal?

My husband and 2 kids wore trainers at our wedding earlier this year. (Smart new ones)...my daughter was barefoot but that was a different reason). A 50's style dress with converse sounds fine to me - but check with the bride and groom. (I was just pleased people came to our wedding and really not fussed what they wore.)

SweetAsSpice · 29/07/2019 20:25

Do it. Plenty of brides even now wear funky converse/trainers underneath their dresses. Comfort for the win, every time. If anyone else seriously cares what you are wearing on your feet, that’s their problem!

Jayaywhynot · 29/07/2019 20:25

I think you'd look cute and quirky, I'd wear them! No ones gonna be looking at your feet, if they do, say " cute aren't they, converse!" By the end of the day all the ladies in heels will be wishing they'd worn them

What sort of support do your feet need? My flat shoes have straps and a buckle. I can’t wear shoes that have no fastenings at all. The all have straps or laces or zips.

Expressedways · 29/07/2019 20:25

X-posted with you. Converse are completely flat and don’t provide much, if any support, though?! How about some supportive insoles? Or M&S do a range of flats with support. But if you need to wear trainers for medical reasons then I’m sure the bride won’t mind if you explain in advance. Don’t go with converse though, you’ll be in agony by the end of the day if you’re that bad with flats.

I would and I don't have health problems!

blankittyblank · 29/07/2019 20:27

It really depends on the type of wedding and groups of friends I reckon.

I've been to two weddings this year, in both weddings there were people dressed up in all variety of clothes, quite a few in trainers in both of them. Also, obviously some people really dressed up. But I've been to others which were much more formal where no one would have worn trainers! So kind of hard to say.

FWIW I wouldn't give a shit if people wore trainers at my wedding Smile

DerelictWreck · 29/07/2019 20:27

I can't wear FLAT shoes OP due to ligament issues but still manage to wear 'flats' all the time. I just get good ones from Clark's etc where they still have a raise in the heel. Anything from 1cm to 5cm and can still wear them all day.

My current favourites for work are these for example www.clarks.co.uk/c/Pure-Tone/p/26132486

HUZZAH212 · 29/07/2019 20:28

You could wear alternative shoes just for the pics then change to the trainers? Probably be a lot of jealous folk wishing they had trainers on by the end of the day 😊

howwudufeel · 29/07/2019 20:28

What about a smart pair of fitflop flats? They are much nicer than trainers and more supportive. Converse wreck my feet and I live in flats.

InsertFunnyUsername · 29/07/2019 20:29

I would and have done, heels are evil Hmm

DewDropsonKittens · 29/07/2019 20:29

I'm going to try and post a picture they're D.C so they have a comfortable bottom on them and the fabric wouldn't rub

I'm a really small shoe size, but have fat feet so cannot get in to Clark's shoes

Will try and post now

Obviously bride and groom are first port of call, but I need supportive shoes, and can't wear Converse, too flat.

I've got some great flats from here: strivefootwear.com/womens/sale.html?p=3

The Lombok look as though they might be passable? Maybe even the blue Amanda? I feel for you, I'm so grateful I can wear trainers to work, they help my feet so much, and they're trendy, so I'm killing 2 birds. The other thing I'd look at would be a small wedge with good ankle support, loads around at the moment, and will look nice for a summer wedding. I think for one day, I'd do my best to wear something smarter than normal, but only you know if that's possible with your issues.

Guiloak · 29/07/2019 20:30

I have chronic foot issues no way could I wear converse. I wear one sort of fitflops or one type of trainer. Some people with similar foot issues can wear birkenstocks but I can't. My friends know not to judge me by my foot wear. I would struggle at a winter wedding a trouser suit and trainers it would have to be. I could wear lovely shoes but would need to be a in a wheelchair!

Next thread I guess would be... where can I get super comfortable wedding approved flats

Clark’s!

TroysMammy · 29/07/2019 20:32

I saw a bride on Saturday and when she lifted her dress to walk she was wearing pink Converse. To be fair she did have to walk up a steep hill to have photos taken in a castle.

swissmilk · 29/07/2019 20:34

Of course you can wear trainers if you need to, I wouldn't expect to be asked if I was the bride/groom. I cared about all the people who came to my wedding and wouldn't have wanted them to suffer.
Heels are evil, I don't understand why they are compulsory?

NerrSnerr · 29/07/2019 20:34

Those DC shoes are the nicest that have been posted on the thread. I am in my 30s and wouldn't wear the Clarks, Strive or Fitflops that have been linked.

ItchySeveredFoot · 29/07/2019 20:34

Trainers yes. Those trainers? No. Sorry I love converse style but those are horrible. Too much rubber strip. What about sparkly trainers? Next have some. Then it's a bit more obvious that you've dressed up.

Dandelion1993 · 29/07/2019 20:35

Get some flats. Trainers are a big no

DewDropsonKittens · 29/07/2019 20:36

@Aridane

I can't fit in Clark's unfortunately

Those Boden shoes are bloody hideous.

No to trainers/Converse.

Have a look at the Gabor sale on John Lewis website, maybe. Plenty of comfortable looking sandals on there.
