Is it ok to wear (fancy) trainers to a wedding?

We are going to a friends wedding, it is on a fancy golf course type venue.

I have 2 children I will need to supervise, cannot last in heels for longer than 30 minutes... health problems, mainly physical mean I have extensive pain when active for long periods of time.

I have a lovely 1950's dress I am wearing, I've found some lovely blue d.c / converse style shoes which would suit the dress but worry how I look

Is it too informal?

I love frilly socks.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 31/07/2019 15:12

What’s wrong with frilly socks 😬😅

IvanaPee · 31/07/2019 15:29

Frilly socks with a petty-coated skirt and trainers on a 33 year old?! 😬

Why does age matter?

Wear what you like and feel comfortable in.

Cosentyx · 31/07/2019 15:35

My daughter is 16 and she and her friends wear trainers with all sorts of clothes. I'm glad to see them embracing comfort over silly shoes that pinch and hurt your feet.

DewDropsonKittens · 31/07/2019 15:36

What do you think for socks @IvanaPee

OP posts:
IvanaPee · 31/07/2019 15:38

I wouldn’t want visible socks if I was going to do it.

But I’m still of the opinion that it won’t really go! Plus those type of trainers really don’t offer any support!

IvanaPee · 31/07/2019 15:39

Anyway, it’s a personal preference thing! I’m around your age and I think dresses with converse are for pre and young teens!

On the other hand, I wouldn’t bat an eyelid as the bride or if I saw you as a guest!

sausagepastapot · 31/07/2019 15:41

New, clean Converse are absolutely fine for a wedding imo.

Cosentyx · 31/07/2019 15:43

She said she wasn't wearing the trainers for support but because her feet are arthritic and swell and hurt in most shoes.

I wear orthotics in my Converse and Superga's so they are actually plenty supportive.

Madmarchpear · 31/07/2019 15:46

Frilly socks on anybody over 13 looks perverse.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 31/07/2019 15:56

Perverse? Confused According to the OED this means "showing deliberate determination to behave in a way that most people think is wrong, unacceptable or unreasonable"

It's frilly socks, not a gimp mask.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 31/07/2019 15:58

No offence to those who think gimp masks aren't unreasonable Grin

BenWillbondsPants · 31/07/2019 16:00

Perverse? Yep, absolutely the most ridiculous comment I've seen on here for a good while.

OhNoooNotAgain · 31/07/2019 16:05

I wore trainers to my own blooming wedding! And if I marry again, it'll be trainers or dm's! I can't see an issue at all, even without medical reasons.

Besides, it sounds to me like they match the rest of the outfit anyway.

Ewanthescreamsheep · 31/07/2019 16:07

Baffled by the "Check with the bride/ groom" responses.
I can't imagine they care what their guests are wearing on their feet. They'll be wrapped up in their day and just happy that you're there.

wornoutboots · 31/07/2019 16:08

Flats, with memory foam insoles. They get me through every formal occasions

Orlandointhewilderness · 31/07/2019 16:13

I fully intend to wear converse to my next wedding (live in mine and adore them!) so wouldn't care. I also have wide feet and they fit fine.

DewDropsonKittens · 04/08/2019 19:31

Bit of an update

The shoes came today they look really nice with the dress, I also got them in my daughter size so we are going to be matching

I was also able to get my husband a tie that is the same blue as the belt on my dress Smile

I assume spam because it's all over the boards.
