Is it ok to wear (fancy) trainers to a wedding?

We are going to a friends wedding, it is on a fancy golf course type venue.

I have 2 children I will need to supervise, cannot last in heels for longer than 30 minutes... health problems, mainly physical mean I have extensive pain when active for long periods of time.

I have a lovely 1950's dress I am wearing, I've found some lovely blue d.c / converse style shoes which would suit the dress but worry how I look

Is it too informal?

If you really wanted to you could buy some Swarovski crystals online and bling them up a bit, just a row around the plimsoll line or a few random ones dotted about would dress them up a bit.

Oh. My. God.

Please don’t glue crystals onto trainers for a wedding. Just, please. 😂😂😂

howwudufeel · 29/07/2019 23:31

That’s so rude IvanaPee. Somebody has tried to give their advice in good faith and you are ridiculing them. Not nice behaviour.

IvanaPee · 29/07/2019 23:33

Oh yeah @howwudufeel because I’m the only one on the thread who’s commented on other people’s ideas. 🙄

Everyone’s been having a laugh.

Not everybody has been having a laugh. Only the rude twats.

I have lived in Fit flops for the last few years and have worn them to several weddings and other smart occasions. I don't like any of the ones others have linked to though. Check out something like their Cha Cha range.

Bookworm4 · 29/07/2019 23:52

Sorry those DC do not go with that style of dress, they look like gym shoes for a 5 yr old. Also those type of shoes offer no support at all, look for nice sandals or a small wedge. Remember you’re the parent don’t look like your child dressed you.

Greensleeves · 30/07/2019 00:02

I think the dress with the blue converse would look fabulous, I'd be envious if I saw you in them! Funky and happy and stylish.

LizB62A · 30/07/2019 00:03

I think you must be me OP - I live in trainers (well, running shoes actually as they've got the best support for my feet)
I can't wear wedges any more as my wobbly ankles mean I'm likely to fall over and I haven't been able to wear heels for years.
Flats, including ballet flats, leave the soles of my feet burning with pain after about 20 mins.

Your friend is getting married - she just want you to be there and enjoy yourself and not be in pain, so wear your trainers and have fun Smile

OldAndWornOut · 30/07/2019 00:06

I'm sure you'll look great.
Comfortable, and much better than women hobbling about in heels.

EnidButton · 30/07/2019 00:13

Just off the title I was going to say no, but reading your post and seeing you have health issues I say absolutely wear the trainers. Not being in pain is 100% more important than a vague worry that someone might take a second glance or be judgey for a few seconds. Focus on yourself and do what you have to do to minimise the chances of a pain or fatigue flare up so you can enjoy the day.

I agree with Raven that MN is the worst place for footwear suggestions. Grin I love Style & Beauty and all who sail in her but fuck me some people have awful tastes in shoes.

Pinkyyy · 30/07/2019 00:13

They're not fancy trainers and they're not wedding appropriate. Sandals would be acceptable, but definitely not those trainers.

EnidButton · 30/07/2019 00:15

or be judgey for a few seconds

I don't think anyone will btw, everyone is too busy worrying about themselves and with enjoying the day. Your dress sounds gorgeous. Go and have fun.

OldAndWornOut · 30/07/2019 00:17

Being comfortable is always appropriated.
Its not 1932!
Women should be able to wear whatever the hell they want and not have other women tell them otherwise.

AlexaAmbidextra · 30/07/2019 00:17

Those fitflop slingbacks are an abomination. 😱

Bookworm4 · 30/07/2019 00:19

These are not converse or trainers or fancy or trendy; they are children’s plimsolls.
Think most of you haven’t noticed what trainers you wear with a dress and it’s not these.

Chochito · 30/07/2019 00:24

No trainers. Supportive, formal flats.

howwudufeel · 30/07/2019 00:27

Haha. I suggested the fitflops which have caused such outrage. They look really nice on the model in the second picture. I think they are quite simple and summery and of course comfortable. If I were choosing my own wedding footwear I would go for something different but the OP wants comfort. Oh well...Grin

colourlessgreenidea · 30/07/2019 00:28

Is anyone else playing ‘guess the age of the poster’ on the basis of their shoe recommendations and/or their reaction to the shoe recommendations of others? Grin

howwudufeel · 30/07/2019 00:29

I think people would guess I am 82 Grin I actually have a nice collection of shoes. Honest Grin

AlexaAmbidextra · 30/07/2019 00:29

At risk of offending just about everyone, apart from some of the jewelled sandals, I have never seen so many revoltingly ugly shoes as those being recommended on this thread. Do people actually wear these things? 😱

howwudufeel · 30/07/2019 00:31

Yes, if they have arthritis or other problems with their feet.

Missingstreetlife · 30/07/2019 00:32

Jus to wear your bloody shoes and be comfortable. All these judge ppl can boil their heads

toffeeghirlinatwirl · 30/07/2019 00:32

Just wear the trainers OP. They're a lot better than any of the ugly suggestions. I used to be in agony wearing fancy shoes for formal occasions but now put my comfort above all else. Nobody will care what's on your feet, I'm sure.

howwudufeel · 30/07/2019 00:33

People get very angry about shoes Confused

SudowoodoVoodoo · 30/07/2019 00:33

The trainers are much nicer than the vast majority of the impractical or hideous monstrosities that have been linked to.

I have very awkwardly proportioned and sensitive feet and thank goodness my feet can tolerate a low heel at the nicer end of Hotter's spectrum for a formal occasion. For flat, metalic birkenstocks solve a multitude of sins. Most sandals are either too narrow, pinch, rub, have no support or just look stupid and clumpy with my short, square, wide feet. Slip on shoes should be renamed "slop offs" and just work like a cheese grater on the ankles if you can actually move more than three paces with the things. Flat shoes designed for comfort are inevitably clumpy and inelegant.

Sadly some feet are just incompatible with elegant, smart, functional footwear.

Stick with the trainers, they're neat and work with the style of the dress. I wear insoles with my pumps for support.
