If you voted Leave, did you/do you want 'no deal'?

No arguments or even debates about Brexit, not wanting to start a fight, just want to count the numbers in a very unscientific manner.
It seems any deal at all is quickly falling off the table, never mind the easiest deal in history.

If you voted Leave , do you want 'no deal'?

Leave
No deal

scatterolight · 30/07/2019 11:54

Voted Leave, want No Deal and wanted it from the start.

People seem to forget that the Referendum itself was about Cameron's Deal. He already went through rounds of negotiations with the EU and negotiated a Deal which was then put to us to vote on.

It was only afterwards that this idea of negotiating ANOTHER Deal to keep us tied to all sorts EU structures reared its head. The whole Deal/No Deal/Hard/Soft Brexit is a sleight of hand by the Remainer elements in the government and civil service to keep us as far in the EU as possible. It honestly sickens me.

Happy with no deal

I firmly believe that we should tell the EU we have no interest in a hard boarder in Northern Ireland, and if they want one in the south, it's up to them. Why should WE be charged with finding a solution?

Simkin · 30/07/2019 12:07

Because our people will die in the ensuing violence Hadalifeonce.

People 'wanting' no deal and 'happy with' no deal are really of the opinion that having no trade deals with any other country is an advantageous situation to be in for a small island with very little industry compared to the rest of the world? Really?

bellinisurge · 30/07/2019 12:11

Because @Hadalifeonce WTO rules require you to have control of your economic area. Doesn't have to be a hard border but has to be control. Both UK and EU will need to abide by that.

MindyStClaire · 30/07/2019 12:12

Seriously? It's up to the UK to solve because:

  • the UK signed an international peace treaty, the honourable thing would be to stick to it
  • this is all the UK's doing, the EU and Ireland haven't sought to change anything
  • the UK created NI in the first place.
lubeybooby · 30/07/2019 12:24

no deal isn't REALLY no deal - it will then mean a series of hundreds of small deals being made if we want to trade with anyone rather than one big one.

I'm a remainer, but I think we have to just have no deal play out now and hope this mess and how terrible it's going to be creates the decent policitians of the future. People who can actually cut a voice through all the background noise of hate, misunderstanding and faked articles.

Our kids need educating about politics and this new world of social media being abused by bots.

Simkin · 30/07/2019 12:32

no deal isn't REALLY no deal - it will then mean a series of hundreds of small deals being made if we want to trade with anyone rather than one big one. Yes. But none of the work has been done. As you know. And I don't trust Johnson to make any deals in anyone's interest other than his and his puppet masters'.

As a 'liberal elite' I'll very probably be fine personally after a no deal Brexit but not wanting to watch people in this country I love descend into victorian-levels of poverty makes me unpatriotic apparently.

billysboy · 30/07/2019 12:32

Interesting thread

NI should be allowed to be a special trading post with a border in the Irish Sea bit like Hong Kong was to China

Boris will pull through for the moment as there is no credible opposition with a credible plan other than just to disagree

MindyStClaire · 30/07/2019 12:36

I'm a remainer, but I think we have to just have no deal play out now

I know I'm repeating myself across numerous threads this morning. But this attitude, especially from remainers, is a hard one to swallow. I'm in NI and feel like every facet of my life is up in the air. And I don't live near the border, I'm financially secure, we probably wouldn't both lose our jobs immediately, we don't live on a controlled estate etc. God knows how others feel.

People advocating No Deal purely from the pov of "Oh FFS, let's just get on with it" just quite clearly don't give a shit about me or the nearly two million other people who live here.

Ithink Weird...I can get the pdf from that link when I google it.

Try this one...www.iprhelpdesk.eu/news/brexit-finalised-withdrawal-agreement

@MindyStClaire , Hold Fast. It's hard but you have to try. Just watched the One O'clock news and they were saying that Johnson is getting his eyes opened on his Tour of the Union. No doubt we'll have more peaks and troughs on the Bullshit - ometer. But maybe, just maybe, he's realising.

midsomermurderess · 30/07/2019 13:46

Oh Soola, she's every but simultaneously nowhere. Can I mute her?

Peanutbuttericecream · 30/07/2019 14:11

It seems that the ones shouting “NO TO NO DEAL” don’t want to leave in the first place.

I’m surprised how many remainers still want to remain, when you see what how the EU are behaving.

bellinisurge · 30/07/2019 14:13

@Peanutbuttericecream , aren't you a grown up? Really? Why does Leave have to mean No Deal? Not even the Prime Minister wants it.

dellacucina · 30/07/2019 14:16

*I’m surprised how many remainers still want to remain, when you see what how the EU are behaving."

How should the EU behave?

bellinisurge · 30/07/2019 14:17

@dellacucina , surely the EU must do what we want because it's us.

scaryteacher · 30/07/2019 14:17

Cobblers I wonder what you'll be saying six months after no deal.

Thank goodness we moved back from Brussels before Brexit, I expect!

Oranginna · 30/07/2019 14:23

I voted Leave and would settle for No Deal rather than not leaving at all. I was never very hopeful that the EU would agree to a reasonable deal as they want to discourage any other countries from ever leaving. The fact that it is proving so difficult to leave makes me more convinced that we need to get out now before we get even more entangled. I still fear that we will remain, because there are so many vested interests (individual politicians and corporations) that would prefer us to stay in the EU for their own financial benefit.

Deathgrip · 30/07/2019 14:25

Oh, the irony.

TulipsTulipsTulips · 30/07/2019 14:26

Yes to leaving. A deal would be better but otherwise leave with no deal.

Peanutbuttericecream · 30/07/2019 14:27

@poster bellinisurge

Yet, you’re the one resorting to personal abuse.....

bellinisurge · 30/07/2019 14:28

No other country has an issue similar to NI. That's the only reason it's difficult. Italy or whoever could leave easily.
As you might know if you have children or care for them, spitting your dummy out and saying "I want" doesn't make it happen. NI issue is still there.
