Best perk of your job

What's the best perk you've ever had in your job?

Today I got a ride in a super rare supercar (I won't say the make and model as it would be very outing).

Previous perks have seen me try on a very ugly £20,000 diamond ring and also received a hamper full of heather honey once.

NHS admin...I work with nice people and very occasionally get a box of chocolates. I have an ok pension, sick and maternity pay are ok!

TheRLodger · 28/07/2019 13:07

The holidays and short commute

RedSheep73 · 28/07/2019 13:10

You don't get many perks as a librarian...forgiving my own fines?

needlessbanana · 28/07/2019 13:24

Phase back return to work after maternity leave, will work part time for three months but get paid full time.

Flexible working.

Pretty cheap life insurance & personal accident covers.

That's probably it.

Arnoldthecat · 28/07/2019 13:28

DB pension.

Unihorn · 28/07/2019 13:34

I get free tea, coffee and soft drinks, and one free meal on shift (restaurant manager).

I always liked growing up with a primary school teacher for a mother. I used to go in with her in the school holidays and play in the hall with the sponge balls and gym stuff, and she would bring home old/outdated textbooks and random stuff.

Deeandwizzy · 28/07/2019 13:37

Healthcare, good pension, hot and cold drinks, breakfast once a week, occasional pizza lunches, gym membership, drinks party every month, summer bbq, Christmas party, flexible working...

isabellerossignol · 28/07/2019 13:44

My emoloyer sends me on training courses. Apparently this is the norm for a lot of people but I've been in the workplace for over 20 years with various employees and this is the first time I've been allowed to do any useful type of training or development. They are actively encouraging me to move upwards which is something I've never experienced before.

SpaceCadet4000 · 28/07/2019 13:52

I work from home on a decent salary. I get 12 weeks fully paid maternity leave- that might not sound brilliant in the UK, but I live in the US where that's a pretty awesome benefit.

OccidentalPurist · 28/07/2019 13:55

Another great thread - placemarking for later!

SheldonSaysSo · 28/07/2019 14:26

Between 8 and 10 weeks of holiday a year (but I don't get to choose most of it).

Good milage allowance, annual pay rise.

Getting to spend my working hours going to the cinema, swimming or to national trust places.

Somethingselfdeprecating · 28/07/2019 14:31

I’m based in the craft industry. It’s one of my main hobbies anyway so it doesn’t really feel like work!

7 minute commute!

A lovely boss (who’s a really good friend) and colleagues.

Endless flexibility in terms of working hours, childcare etc

Newest & coolest craft products to play with

Free or heavily discounted product

Get to meet and learn from many designers in the craft community

Free trips to trade shows in the uk and abroad, workshops & demos from all the big companies

Old job: trips abroad to demo products to clients - used to get taken out, wined and dined, Dom Perignon fizz and caviar!

user1199 · 28/07/2019 14:38

So cheesy but cuddles whenever I want. I'm a stay at home mum. It's the best job ever!

IPokeBadgers · 28/07/2019 16:54

I work in local government and I honestly think the best perk is Flexi time. Works brilliant for me as I like to get into work early, and rarely leave before 5pm anyway so I easily build up 1-2 days extra leave every few weeks, allowing me to save annual leave days. Also just means on the occasional day when I'm not feeling it, I can bin work off early. The difference that can make to work/life balance and mental health is hard to put a price on!

Mabelface · 28/07/2019 17:10

Heavily discounted full refund, medical history disregarded health care, good pension, season ticket loan, employee assistance programme, 25 days holiday plus bank Holidays, discount with certain companies, casual dress code, in-house training. Excellent benefits but would like to be paid a bit more.

smallerstepsbiggerchange · 28/07/2019 17:18

Free tea and coffee.

I would say pay and a half if you work a Saturday but I'm contracted to one so don't get it! Bugger.

I suppose I do only work 22 hours but get 20 days annual leave.

Alarae · 28/07/2019 17:21

Sounds tame compared to everyone else, but I have truly flexible working. Can work whatever hours in whatever place, as long as it's done. Don't even need to ask my manager, can just note in my outlook calendar.

Second perk would probably be the cooked meals we get when away on training. My firm has hired out a massive Manor and runs all training sessions from it. The food... Ah. I make excuses to go on training there just to get the food. Its amazing.

FairyDust92 · 28/07/2019 17:23

Free dental work 😌

Fontofnoknowledge · 28/07/2019 17:26

32 Days Holiday +BH's so 40 days . Plus flexi time . Can start work anytime from 7:30-8pm. Can choose to work from home when I wish.
If I do go into the office I am paid for the time it takes me to get there and can claim mileage as I'm on long term secondment.

I work full time (36 hrs a week) compressed over 4 days so I leave at 8am and am home at 5 for a full time salary and never have to work a Monday ..

I also really love my job after 25 yrs.

reefedsail · 28/07/2019 17:29

School holidays and a personal biscuit box that the kitchen re-fills when it's empty.

I also get to eat Angel Delight at least once a fortnight, and sometimes it's butterscotch.

Parsley65 · 28/07/2019 17:46

Reviewing restaurants once a month (free three course meal & bottle of wine)
Based at home, so negotiating the stairs is my commute!
Working around kids/school/activities
Only picking up the phone if I want to
Wearing comfortable (and not smart) clothes for work
Never working on my birthday

Whattheduck · 28/07/2019 18:25

Doctors appointments for me and my family when I need one
5 minute commute
Lovely work colleagues
Free coffee, tea and biscuits
Paid for lunch once a month as part of our monthly meetings
We always have cakes on a friday provided by management
Plenty of overtime if you want it

ChangeyMcChangeChange · 28/07/2019 18:39

I once worked somewhere that once a year paid for the entire company to go on a two night break in Europe, fancy hotel, flights etc. Unfortunately they were a bunch of c*nts so I took the weekend and resigned on the Monday.

Currently, it's the flexibility, free travel in London, generous maternity, final salary pension and medical history disregarded healthcare.

PeoniesarePink · 28/07/2019 18:47

Taking my dogs to work with me.

daisypond · 28/07/2019 18:48

I know someone who had a perk like that, but it was a paid-for cruise for a week for all employees and their partners. Admittedly, a holiday on a boat with your colleagues might not be everyone’s dream.
