Best perk of your job

What's the best perk you've ever had in your job?

Today I got a ride in a super rare supercar (I won't say the make and model as it would be very outing).

Previous perks have seen me try on a very ugly £20,000 diamond ring and also received a hamper full of heather honey once.

Everyone in the company works from home. We don't have a physical office and it helps us keep expenses low as I'm in the charity sector.

It's helped with family life so much. Before this I was doing a long commute that cost me 4k per year

Winterfellismyhome · 27/07/2019 23:05

Free travel for me and DP (two different transport companies so we're covered Smile)

Disco3000 · 27/07/2019 23:09

Someone I know was Mohammed Al Fayed's doctor, and when she was leaving, he took her to the jewellery department in Harrods and told her to pick any piece she wanted. Picked a huge diamond ring!

blue25 · 27/07/2019 23:09

Flexible hours. Can work from home when I like. Great pension.

tenbob · 27/07/2019 23:13

Do those people with “free healthcare” not have to pay the tax?

Nope, my company pay the tax for us
They also pay the capital gains tax when we sell our company shares - theoretically though. The bastard things never go up in value, so it’s just a deferred bonus in reality.

ITgrrl · 27/07/2019 23:14

Occasionally work trips I don't mind like (week in Las Vegas or similar every year). Or possible all expenses paid holiday, with partner, in Mauritius, Hawaii or similar once a year if lucky (hardworking).

IDontDrinkTea · 27/07/2019 23:17

I work for the NHS...

Although actually, when I went in to have my dd, I got my own en suite room instead of having to go into a bay on the postnatal ward, and they managed to find a bed for my dh and let him stay the entire time rather than kicking him out once visiting ended. As perks go, it was invaluable to me

Heymummee · 27/07/2019 23:17

Free tea and coffee, free fruit every day, your birthday off as an extra holiday, discounts at loads of different online and high street shops, cupcakes, sweets and chocolates for occasions like Halloween, Easter etc, huge Christmas party every year, regular incentives to win money and a family day every Christmas where they put on a hog roast, Father Christmas and drinks all afternoon. Small things when you look at each in isolation, but typing them all out like that I do consider myself very lucky.

GiggleMcDimples · 27/07/2019 23:20

Chocolate biscuits
A nursing home.

Hmm - free products that we manufacture. A great view, very rural office but still driving distance to a supermarket when I can't be arsed to make lunch. Free parking (essential as no public transport and very rural). A fabulous team to work with. One of the best managers I've ever had (and I've been in the workforce a long time!).

And more than anything else, it's fun.

C0untDucku1a · 27/07/2019 23:27

Free parking at work.
We used to get free sanitary towels. Was most gutted when that stopped.

heymammy · 27/07/2019 23:33

Used to work for a hotel chain, staff perks included staff standby rate of £10 per night at any hotel...world. wide. also cheap or comp London theatre tickets and epic, fully paid inc accommodation, staff xmas parties at one of the London hotels.

KronksSpinachPuffs · 27/07/2019 23:34

My work shuts between Christmas and new year which is nice

Other than that we do get tea and coffee but its non branded stuff so not the best, it all tastes a bit weak

cricketmum84 · 28/07/2019 05:49

@Iggity yes but it only works out at about £6 a month which is an awful lot less than a private plan. I only have to pay an excess of £100 on mine.

TheHobbitMum · 28/07/2019 06:14

I work in a supermarket so not really many perks but the 2 I use most is 1/2 price cineworld tickets/food and when making reductions on food (we reduce all food by 50% the day before the best before/use by dates) we all keep anything we want to buy so we have plenty of bargains Grin

When non food items get reduced staff take first pick too and often items are reduced to 9p on final clearance Grin

CherryPavlova · 28/07/2019 06:18

Autonomy
Paid as homeworker, so travel and time paid as soon as I step outside the door
Lovely team
Flexible working times allow for juggling of commitments
Good holiday allowance
Access to NHS car leasing scheme

RangerLady · 28/07/2019 06:20

This sounds a bit trite but the place I work with now I have the most lovely colleagues. Never worked anywhere before where so many people were so nice! Beautiful location and free.city centre parking too. Flexible working. I only wish it was a permanent contract!

OldUnit · 28/07/2019 06:24

I get to converse with our customers who are, no word of a lie, fucking hilarious.

It's seriously what makes the job worth doing.

Thegracefuloctopus · 28/07/2019 06:25

I get to work 8-4! Sounds stupid but I am early riser and it works with childcare. I also (currently) don't have to work weekends (although I'm always concerned they will introduce it)

Adversecamber22 · 28/07/2019 09:33

I had a job that provided me with a couple of quite decent suits per year. I also got an allowance for breakfast and lunch and as many fancy coffees as I wanted. If we used our cars the mileage was 40p a mile. So I hardly had to buy any food at all for those years.

Most of my working life was spent in higher education I caught some of the very last years of when higher eduction was cushy, pre REF and even pre RAE. First class travel, lots of free lunches. Many black tie events, loads of free booze. I have never worked Christmas or Easter. I met a lot of politicians, maybe that’s a negative in some eyes but it was always very interesting

JustMe9 · 28/07/2019 10:28

In my current new job I get quite flexible working hours (8 - 4.30) and its only 10min drive from my home and 3min drive from my sons nursery! Also free parking, free on site gym, free unlimited tea/coffee/water, free healtcare plan, goos private pension. I was given my own company laptop and mobile phone so If needed in emergencies (child is poorly etc) can easily work from home. Free training courses and also traveling expenses paid at 45p a mile :) Although the actual salary could be better lol

QuestionableMouse · 28/07/2019 12:17

I don't pay a penny for my health care.

I also have flexible working... I can do as little as one day a week during the uni term or upto seven during the holidays.

TeachesOfPeaches · 28/07/2019 12:25

Emergency same day childcare - you can pay £30 for a nanny to come to your home for the whole day or £10 for a nursery place for the day. Not had to use it yet but what a great perk.

Malibucyprus · 28/07/2019 12:35

I can take my kids into work during the school holidays (or if they’re bored being at home, now they’re older and I don’t need childcare) we have a spare office, and they pitch up in there watching films, and one of the lads will fetch them Maccy D’s or KFC, they love it.

Mistybee · 28/07/2019 12:53

I work as a nanny.......my daughter comes with me and goes to the same school as my charges

It means I don’t have to pay our for childcare
