What drives you mad about MNers?

I woke up grumpy today and reading some posts is making me grumpier. Perhaps I'm turning into a curmudgeon. But sometimes I read posts and think "Good grief, woman, you don't help yourself, do you?"

The gems that seem to pop up with alarming regularity: "We live rurally and I don't drive" in a post complaining of a lack of access to, well, anything really.

Or: "We don't have any family close by to babysit so DH and I haven't been out on our own since 2004." Do what we all do then and pay for a babysitter!

Ugh. This heat is making me grouchy. Anything make you want to shake another MNer?

Or posters coming on to threads like Ghost stories and completely shitting on it from a height.

You just dont do that.

Caramellow · 01/08/2019 10:34

The ghost threads drive me crazy. I don't find the belief in such things to be harmless and I don't see why they shouldn't be challenged.

Caramellow · 01/08/2019 10:35

I generally avoid reading them though because they aren't good for my blood pressure.

peachgreen · 01/08/2019 10:35

I also hate references to old "classic" threads, especially ones that were clearly absolute bollocks (e.g. Span Gran). And any time anyone says "snapped and farted" I want to scream.

And on a more serious note, posters that don't understand the concept of white / straight / thin / able-bodied / The Word We're Not Allowed To Say That Starts With C privilege.

Mrsjayy · 01/08/2019 10:45

I thought penis beaker was ridiculous and not hilaire

BertrandRussell · 01/08/2019 10:48

I have never done more than smile at a Mumsnet thread. I have laughed at a particular username. But i find the spitting coffee stuff annoying. Similarly all the physical reactions mumsnetters have to things. Particularly when they can’t spell them.

Shockers · 01/08/2019 11:06

I have genuinely laughed until I’ve cried at some threads. There are some terrifically witty folk on MN. What irritates me is when people trot the same tired lines out. It’s funny once, then it gets old.

CitadelsofScience · 01/08/2019 11:17

I do snort, choke on tea/coffee/wine, dribble and spit out because I have an unbelievably childish sense of humour sometimes. I also have throat issues that make liquids fly out at times.

x2boys · 01/08/2019 11:35

As the parent of a child with severe autism learning disabilities ,i particularly hate it when a poster will post something about their child with autism or other complex needs, behaviour and other posters who have no knowledge or experience of special needs l pile on and say I would never allow my child "Autism or no Autism" to behave like that and the child should know better etc ,Autism is a massive spectrum( which some people on here don't seem to grasp) and some children don't behave how you would expect a NT to behave .

x2boys · 01/08/2019 11:35

Line up all the posters that use the following words -

Naice
Norks
Fanjo
Sanpro
Squee

.....and shoot them.

Spidey66 · 01/08/2019 12:37

Those who think their way of life is the only way, An example being on a recent thread about (of all things) cornflakes, someone posted ''do people really buy/eat boxed cereals in this day and age?'' Err....just because you don't, doesn't mean nobody does. Or those that say ''All my friends and family take their shoes off when entering a house, ergo so does everyone else.....''not in my world they don't.

Those being super protective about their toilet/bins. ''OMG a delivery man asked to use my toilet and did a poo in there. Obviously a working class poo smells worse than a lovely fragrant rose scented middle class one. How uncouth. I'm going to send Ocado a strongly worded email and demand my delivery charge back.'' Or, ''a passerby put their hand over the fence and put an empty crisp packet into my wheelie bin. I'm going to get it out and run down the road after them and tell them to put it in their own bin.''

Spidey66 · 01/08/2019 12:55

Oh and the ones who post saying their husband/partner is to all intents and purposes a decent man who works hard, does his bit round the house/with the kids but had one slip up (eg came home once in the past 10 years drunk and got sick or something) and everyone piles in with LTB, he's an alcoholic, think of the children!

Camomila · 01/08/2019 13:03

There's a bit of an obsession with protein (I was just reading a BBC article about how we are probably eating too much)

And the class stuff is awkward (but that's everywhere, not just mn)

NeverGotMyPuppy · 01/08/2019 13:03

The ridicoislt fake 'do people really...,' - it makes you sound like a narrow minded twat.

The 'it worked for me/my baby/ my teenager therefore it MUST work for you and if it doesn't you are doing it wrong.'

Limer · 01/08/2019 13:09

I'm always amazed at how few people bother to RTFT. And even those that do, their only contribution is to repeat comments made by other posters. If an early poster uses a particular cliche, e.g. "well, that's just like taking coals to Newcastle", loads of others repeat that same cliche in their comments.

RedDogsBeg · 01/08/2019 13:30

Shockers has already mentioned the churning out of silly, unfunny phrases on threads ad nauseum by posters who seem to think they are being funny or clever, such as cancel the cheque, are you on glue, did you snap and fart, posters who do this usually only make this one pathetic contribution to a thread.

I am glad the virtual buffets have died out they were tedious in the extreme, although there are still posters who 'grab popcorn' whilst they watch an OP get a virtual kicking, says a lot about them and none of it complimentary.

Can I be part of the firing squad, please ? (Apart from Norks. For some reason that word makes me smile.)

However, I don't understand why people get so heated/up in arms about nom nom nom.

Pinkiii · 01/08/2019 14:14

One other thing that annoys me,

Everytime someone asks what they should make for a dinner party/bbq, there is ALWAYS someone who suggests whatever food.. along with CRUSTY BREAD

Why does it always have to be crusty bread? Why can’t it just be bread, or blood baguetteHmm

Pinkiii · 01/08/2019 14:14

Meant bloody, obviously wouldnt want blood baguette Blush

Thegreymethod · 01/08/2019 14:22

Mine isn't so much what people say...... it's when someone references an earlier post on the thread but doesn't copy and paste what was said so if you're nosey (like me) you need to start going back through the thread to see what was said and lose where you were up too!!
I'm sure there was a better way of explaining that but It's the summer holidays and I'm tired and my brain wouldn't work!!

Thegreymethod · 01/08/2019 14:26

Thought of another that's really irritating. When a poster asks advice and gives some background to set the scene (so as not to be accused of drip feeling) and people start offering (usually judgemental) advice about the rest of the posters life Angry

OooErMissus · 01/08/2019 14:50

The same reason it always has to be a 'crisp' white shirt, and never just a white shirt. No other shirts need to be 'crisp'. Only white shirts, apparently...

Lazy fuckers who don't C and P is the expression you're looking for.

😉

echt · 01/08/2019 15:12

Not RTFT, but dozy gets who post about thinking they're pregnant and have pics of the test. This is not a TAAT, but a general observation.
