Lines that break your heart

nordstrom · 26/07/2019 22:43

I'm just watching a Queen documentary on tv.

Many songs move me, but no single lyric breaks my heart like "I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all" Sad. The utter, desolate sadness of that simple statement, socks me every time I hear it.

Well the line that always gets me, isn't from a song but a film...

"Daddy! My Daddy!"

From The Railway Children.

Just writing it makes tears come!

almostalwayslaura · 26/07/2019 22:48

Everybody’s free - Baz Luhrmann

‘Get to know your parents, you never know when they'll be gone for good...’

TheFaerieQueene · 26/07/2019 22:49

Same for me Henny even more so since my father died recently.

yourestandingonmyneck · 26/07/2019 22:49

Agree the Bohemian Rhapsody one.

Also most of "Baby Mine" from Dumbo 😭

TitianaTitsling · 26/07/2019 22:50

'I'll love you forever, I like you a lot, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be'

TheRLodger · 26/07/2019 22:51

“No one is with you constantly, No one is completely on your side” from I know him so well From the musical Chess
I was going through a bad break up at the tome and those lyrics touched me then and have stuck with me ever since

RaymondReddington · 26/07/2019 22:52

“Some day my little girl will reach out her hand, and know I chose the right man”

It’s a cheesy song by Christina A on one of her albums about marrying her husband and being annoyed or angry at her dad for not being there. I just cry when I hear it - it’s relatable for me. I know I chose the right man for my daughter (her dad)

msmith501 · 26/07/2019 22:53

Goodbye me friend... it's hard to die

Goodbye little one... it's hard to die

Terry Jacks, Seasons in the Sun. if you don't really listen, it's a jolly upbeat song. If you do listen... pass me the wine.

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/07/2019 22:57

“We’ll always have Paris” Sad

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/07/2019 22:58

It’s a throat catcher HennyPennyHorror

Every single time.

"What would you do if your son was at home, crying all alone, 'cos he's hungry"...

thegreylady · 26/07/2019 23:00

‘Kris Kristofferson’
“There’s no need to watch the bridges while they’re burning”

CruellaFeinberg · 26/07/2019 23:00

You always looked like you were flying to me

(Previous lines, I felt I was falling)

Passenger, how things look different and when you're struggling it's not always obvious

Hinchunup · 26/07/2019 23:02

Nobody said it was easy.... I'm going back to the start.. The scientist, Coldplay

Fiontar649 · 26/07/2019 23:04

Kelly Clarkson - Piece by Piece

It's about her dad who abandoned them as kids

The whole song gets me, especially the video of her singing it on American Idol, but this-

"Piece by piece I fell far from the tree
I will never leave her like you left me
And she will never have to wonder her worth
Because unlike you I'm going to put her first"

PickingUpLicks · 26/07/2019 23:04

It's been seven hours and fifteen days

Aceinthehole · 26/07/2019 23:05

"And I can't be holding on, to all you got, when all you've got is hurt." U2 One

"My heart is full, and my doors always open, you come anytime you want." She will be loved Maroon 5....This is just a silly reminder of my youth, an ex was always much kinder to me than a boyfriend and wrote it on a beer mat one day.

Also, the whole of Naive Melody by Talking Heads.

Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of mans heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy
― William Golding, Lord of the Flies

BelulahBlanca · 26/07/2019 23:08

There’s a line in the original Handmaid’s Tale where Offred is recalling a time when her mother played her an Elvis dong that goes “I’m so lonesome I could cry” even thinking of that puts a lump in my throat.

In Gone With The Wind when Scarlett says “I’m going home, I want my mother” and as a repeat viewer I know it’s too late and her mother has died.

In Baby of Mine the lines “If they knew all about you,//They'd end up loving you, too.” Makes me cry for my baby out of indignation aimed at the father who has chosen to exclude her from his life.

igotdemons · 26/07/2019 23:09

“Standing alone
Eager to just
Believe it's good enough to be what
You really are
But in your heart
Uncertainty forever lies
And you'll always be
Somewhere on the
Outside”

‘Outside’ by Mariah Carey. I listened to this so much as a teenager and I still feel the same way today.

LittleCandle · 26/07/2019 23:09

Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning - slipping through my fingers, by Abba.

Agree with The Railway Children one. I can barely read the words without sobbing.

No One But You by Brian May - kills me every time.

Wind Beneath my Wings. It was played each week in a band that I was in and I had my head down crying every bloody time.

In my defence, I cry very easily, over everything.

TheFlis12345 · 26/07/2019 23:11

Bittersweet memories
That is all I'm taking with me
So good-bye
Please don't cry
We both know I'm not what you you need

But only the Dolly version, not Whitney.

gracepoolesrum · 26/07/2019 23:11

"Little Green, have a happy ending". Joni Mitchell to the child she gave up for adoption.

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/07/2019 23:11

But maybe if you'll meet me further down the line
‘Cause you're the right person at the wrong time

John Newman

LadyPoldark · 26/07/2019 23:12

And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong
U2 Walk On
It was playing on the radio when I left my ,very young uncle ,in the hospice. He held on for so long and I was just willing him to go. I can't listen to it now without crying, but I still love to listen to it 💔
