Lines that break your heart

I'm just watching a Queen documentary on tv.

Many songs move me, but no single lyric breaks my heart like "I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all" Sad. The utter, desolate sadness of that simple statement, socks me every time I hear it.

"Don't cry daddy, daddy please don't cry
You've still got me and little Tommy,
Together we'll find a brand new Mommy,
Daddy ride us on your back again
Daddy won't you laugh again
ohhhh daaaadddy please don't cry"

Elvis

My Mum died when I was 8.

Daddy please don't cry resonates. He still cries over her 33 years later.

Deadringer · 26/07/2019 23:20

Every body hurts, sometimes.

YesQueen · 26/07/2019 23:26

Cheating slightly with this quote from Buffy about death

"But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's, there's just a body. And I don't understand why she can't just go back into it and not be dead anymore. It's stupid. It's mortal and stupid. And Xander's crying and not talking. And I was having fruit punch. And I thought, well Joyce will never have anymore fruit punch. Ever. And she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair. Not ever. And no one will explain to me why!"

theluckiest · 26/07/2019 23:26

I think I could find a Queen lyric to define pretty much anything Sad

Most of the lyrics to 'Those Were The Days of Out Lives'...

Especially 'I still love you. I still love you...' which is so loaded with meaning Sad

If we are talking bohemian rhapsody

It’s
Mama life had just begun, now I’ve gone and blown it all away
Mama didn’t mean to make you cry...😢

As you would

73kittycat73 · 26/07/2019 23:27

Bright Eyes does me in, as does You Were Always On My Mind. It reminds me of my dearly departed Nana.

babysnowman · 26/07/2019 23:27

Any of the words to 'Family Portrait' by Pink or 'Because of You' by Kelly Clarkson.

Thatnovembernight · 26/07/2019 23:28

When Beth is dying in Little Women and makes a little speech to Jo that ends with: ‘I'm not afraid, but it seems as if I should be homesick for you even in heaven.’
😭😭😭😭😭

Dowser · 26/07/2019 23:30

Not from a film or song
Chatting to my adorable grandsons aged 16 and 9 about my early life...and knowing that I might not live long enough to see them have their own children and to see them grow into the wonderful young men they promise to be.

That really makes me cry

IWantMyHatBack · 26/07/2019 23:30

And if I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted
All the time
All the time
I would

Autistic, and this song just makes everything hurt. I love it, though.

rosegoldwatcher · 26/07/2019 23:30

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it

ee cummings.

(Lower case intentional.)

Dowser · 26/07/2019 23:32

My ex died almost 5 years ago and the youngest one can just about remember him

AlexaAmbidextra · 26/07/2019 23:34

‘I wasn't there that morning
When my father passed away’

Living Years - Mike and the Mechanics.

Makes me cry because I wasn’t. I got there just too late. 😢

flumpybear · 26/07/2019 23:38

I never cried the way I cried over you
As I put down the telephone and the world it carried on
Somewhere else, someone else is crying too
Another man has lost a friend, I bet he feels the way I do

And now I'm left without, but you're here within

As I watch the sun go down, watching the world fade away
All the memories of you come rushing back to me
As I watch the sun go down, watching the world fade away
All I want to do is kiss you once goodbye

Communards - for a friend 😓

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 26/07/2019 23:38

‘Take the pieces and build them skyward’
Biffy Clyroe

MissClareRemembers · 26/07/2019 23:39

But time makes you bolder,
Even children get older
And I’m getting older too

Landslide - Fleetwood Mac

Oh my heart
Oh my heart shies from the sorrow

Song To The Siren - This Mortal Coil

And he meets us at the lift
Like Douglas Fairbanks
But he isn’t well at all

Some Moments of Pleasure - Kate Bush

I’ll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home

It’s easier to believe in this sweet madness,
Oh this glorious madness
That brings you to your knees

Angel - Sarah McLachlan

Time to Pretend - MGMT

motorcyclenumptiness · 26/07/2019 23:39

I was solid gold, I was in the fight,
I was coming back from what seemed like a ruin,
I couldn't see you coming so far,
I just turn around and there you are.
The National - Pink Rabbits. Great song for having a good cry to.

FreddyFazbear · 26/07/2019 23:42

"But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find."

Most of 'Ordinary World' by Duran Duran in fact. Reminds me of a very tragic event in my life and I always feel I've held my breath for the whole song.

Anothertempusername · 26/07/2019 23:45

Not the best idea I've ever had, reading this thread whilst feeding my15 week old.

Sobbing.

PoppingOneOutIn2020 · 26/07/2019 23:45

"I'll forget you like I forgot your mother" - my dad when I was 12, after we had an argument.

stellavisionandunderstanding · 26/07/2019 23:45

The Happy Prince by Ronald Dahl. The ending always makes me cry.

MissClareRemembers · 26/07/2019 23:45

Oh blimey, how could I forget..

Do you realise that everyone you know some day will die
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes
Let them know you realise
That life goes fast

Do you Realise - Flaming Lips

stellavisionandunderstanding · 26/07/2019 23:46
