Miss, Ms or Mrs?

Dr, but will opt for Ms on forms.

IcaMorgan · 21/07/2019 22:42

Ms

BrennieGirl · 21/07/2019 22:42

Mrs.

newtlover · 21/07/2019 22:43

Ms of course

before marriage-
me: Ms Myname
partner: Mr Hisname

after marriage-
me: Ms Myname
husband: Mr Hisname

sooooo simple Grin

kaldefotter · 21/07/2019 22:44

Ms. To be honest, I was using Ms before I got married, so there was no change when I did get married.

didireallysaythat · 21/07/2019 22:44

Dr.

I choose Mr. on forms if there's no Dr. box!

kaldefotter · 21/07/2019 22:44

Ha, newtlover has it spot on.

BagelDog · 21/07/2019 22:45

Dr, but Ms if that isn’t an option, both before and after marriage.

RaisedByLesbians · 21/07/2019 22:46

Ms, exactly as I did before I was married.

My husband didn’t change his name or title either, btw

SarahAndQuack · 21/07/2019 22:47

Another one of us who was Dr.

Not having to play to the whole Mrs/Miss bollocks is a major reason to go through a doctorate.

Owlbabie5 · 21/07/2019 22:48

So can it be anything? Filling out the application form and got to decide if I’m changing my name. Hadn’t thought I would. If you say you are on the form is that it? Kind of thought I’d keep my name with the option of changing further down the line if I changed my mind.

Dr, but before I was Ms, except at college where they insisted I had to be Miss or Mrs, I choose Miss (they wouldn't make that fuss nowadays) and pretend to be a famous actress.

CatherineVelindre · 21/07/2019 22:53

Ms
Hoping it will be Dr in next couple of years...

Thistly · 21/07/2019 22:53

I understand why you are struggling with this. You are not miss anymore, and you haven’t married your dad, so you can’t be mrs dad’ssurname. Ms has so often been used by divorced women that it seems inappropriate if you are just getting married.

Maybe if enough of us use Ms, then it would seem different.

But I understand why you are struggling with it.

Alicesweewonders · 21/07/2019 22:53

Ms - I've always used this title.

TheCraicDealer · 21/07/2019 22:56

Ms. Started changing my title gradually as stuff needed renewed a few years before we married.

EgremontRusset · 21/07/2019 22:59

Mrs when I’m filling out new forms, but all my old memberships etc still say Ms.
I’m not fussed whether people can tell I’m married from my paperwork. And DH quite likes me to use Mrs even though I kept my name as did he.
It means he sometimes gets called Mr Myname, bc people assume my surname must be his, which I quite like 😁

SarahAndQuack · 21/07/2019 23:00

Ms has so often been used by divorced women that it seems inappropriate if you are just getting married.

Really?

But Ms is the title you use if you're not married or if you're married? Won't divorced women be a small minority here?

Dowser · 21/07/2019 23:03

I’m still Mrs First husband

Too lazy to change passport, bank etc
Also it’s my kids and grandkids name and h2 Nd husband isn’t bothered.

kayakingmum · 21/07/2019 23:03

I'm really surprised so many use the title Ms. I personally just don't like the sound of the word. I'm not married but if I was I wouldn't change my name, but would probably go to Mrs (rather than Miss).

Notabadger · 21/07/2019 23:04

As far as possible I don't put down a title at all (much harder now that everything is on computer!)

For serious things I use Ms but don't like it..just sounds like Miss when said out loud.

For everything else I use whatever the best title in the drop down menu is...eg Tesco delivery for Countess mysurnameSmile

elQuintoConyo · 21/07/2019 23:06

Señora Coño where I live.
Ms Coño when I'm in the UK.

NC4Now · 21/07/2019 23:08

I’m not keen on Ms either. I’m all in favour of a female title that doesn’t tie in to marital status - I just think it’s an awkward word. Two letters that don’t really go together, like an abbreviation that only really works written down.
It’s a shame.
I still use Mrs even though I’m nearly divorced.

Deadringer · 21/07/2019 23:10

I have been Ms since I was about 12

ExpletiveDelighted · 21/07/2019 23:13

Ms, same as before I got married.
