I'm tempted to say Devon but there's so many wonderful places out there and so many I haven't visited. I love Yorkshire too. What's your nomination?

But isn't Yorkshire cold?

Nope, it's heated by the warm hearts of the Yorkshire people

So true. So true.

probstimeforanewname · 17/07/2019 09:56

In terms of scenery, Antrim and Argyll & Bute.

Smellybluecheese · 17/07/2019 10:49

Cornwall
Northumberland
Suffolk
London

I don't live in any of these but did use to live in London and might move back there when DD has left home. Grew up in Kent, hated it!

probstimeforanewname · 17/07/2019 11:02

I always thought of Kent as just being somewhere you travelled through after London to get to the Continent but I ended up living in Ashford for a couple of years in my 20s. It is actually really pretty, there is a reason it is called the Garden of England. The area around the border with East Sussex is particularly lovely. I'd happily move back.

Surprisereaction · 17/07/2019 13:47

I might get killed outright here but I do think there's a sort of superiority when people go on about Yorkshire? I mean it's nice enough but there are loads of wonderful places in the UK and there is no doubt that it's colder up there than down South which is a big factor for me in choosing a place to live.

MrsMiggins37 · 17/07/2019 14:15

Yorkshire is nice but there are definitely nicer places.

AppleKatie · 17/07/2019 14:18

The thing about Yorkshire is county based arrogance. It’s like a reflex- what’s best ‘yorkshire’.

Don’t get me wrong parts of yorkshire are amazing but it’s not the best. It’s bloody freezing for a start.

MyOtherProfile · 17/07/2019 14:24

I don't think it's arrogance, I think it's pride!

Moondancer73 · 17/07/2019 14:24

100% Devon

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 17/07/2019 14:53

I live in and am from Yorkshire so kind of have to say that. But I spent half the week in Cumbria and love it there too.

Surprisereaction · 17/07/2019 15:12

It's almost like it's trendy to be from Yorkshire, like people claiming WC roots when they're not really - I dunno. Anyway, I love East Sussex - absolutely stunning as are parts of Somerset.

ALittleBitAlexis · 17/07/2019 16:21

It’s bloody freezing for a start.

Yorkshire isn’t my favourite place (Northumberland is, with East Lothian a close second!), that’s not a downside for all of us!

ALittleBitAlexis · 17/07/2019 16:21

*but that’s....

Danglingmod · 17/07/2019 16:23

I don't think half the people saying are either from or live there. I'm not and I did.

Danglingmod · 17/07/2019 16:23

Saying Yorkshire, I mean.

Namechangingallthetime · 17/07/2019 16:39

Pembrokeshire.

Thesearmsofmine · 17/07/2019 16:50

I live in Yorkshire but I am not from Yorkshire. I love it here.

People talk about it being the best with pride not arrogance and also usually with their tongue firmly in their cheek.

HazelBite · 17/07/2019 17:03

@Moondancer73
Please explain what is so wonderful about Devon, I visit it regularly as the majority of my family live there but I just don't get it??

Cazziebo · 17/07/2019 17:10

Having lived in many places and travelled extensively Wink across the UK and many of its islands I can categorically confirm Dumfries and Galloway to be top county in the UK. Gorgeous countryside, great market towns with independent shops, stunning, quiet beaches, LOTS OF BOOKSHOPS, excellent local food producers, reasonable house prices, mainline train station (at Lockerbie).

Northumbria, Norfolk, Highlands and Islands, Yorkshire do have a lot going for them but D&G wins hands down.

fuckingtwats · 17/07/2019 17:15

Dorset.

Ditchedtheuselesswanker · 17/07/2019 18:04

Dorset. Amazing countryside. Wonderful beaches

TheDogsMother · 17/07/2019 18:18

A lone vote for West Sussex ! The beautiful South Downs and national park, Chichester, Arundel, Roman history, lovely beaches (West Wittering, for one), quaint villages. I live here so obviously biased but it really is lovely.

SunsetBunny · 17/07/2019 18:31

It depends what you appreciate about a place. If you like the countryside and rolling green hills, then Yorkshire is a strong contender.
However if you prefer the coast then IMO Yorkshire, along with Lincolnshire and Lancashire are probably at the bottom of the pile.

ForalltheSaints · 17/07/2019 18:39

I am surprised at the bravery of MN for anyone to say it is other than God's Own Country!

campion · 17/07/2019 18:39

The Yorkshire Post once ran a competition where you had to identify Yorkshire landmarks and finish the sentence
'I like Yorkshire because. ..'

My late DM entered with the sentence

. ..'of its Grand Folk, Good Food, Great Ale and Glorious Scenery'

and she won!
VIP day out in the Dales in a Rolls Royce.

She summed it up rather well, I thought.
