I'm tempted to say Devon but there's so many wonderful places out there and so many I haven't visited. I love Yorkshire too. What's your nomination?

Yorkshire - if im having to be specific York but all of Yorkshire. I could see myself living around there.
Gloucestershire is pretty too.
Nottinghamshire though in my opinion has its positives!

KingSeokjin · 17/07/2019 18:54

West Sussex!

StripeyChina · 17/07/2019 19:21

Northumberland.
Friendly, old fashioned (in a good way), clean and empty.
Stunning beaches, amazing Castles (google Bamburgh for perfect pair)
Lots of pretty little villages with good pubs / cafes with local fresh food
Lindesfarne, Barter Books in Alnwick, the Rose gardens, fishing on the Tweed at Berwick, Kippers at Craster, ices at Amble, more castles :)
And did I mention it's really friendly?

RainedOff · 17/07/2019 19:24

Not mine but a former colleague addressed a letter to a major client whose premises were located at an address called The Pump House, only she accidentally typed The Pimp House.

Speaking of errors, wrong thread. Grin

SingingSands · 17/07/2019 21:05

Yorkshire

TFSRM · 17/07/2019 21:18

Dorset

lakeswimmer · 17/07/2019 21:21

Cumbria

PhannyMcNee · 17/07/2019 21:21

I have the best of both worlds, Yorkshire born so obviously nowhere else is better but Cornwall where I now live is a good second Grin

Takeittotheboss · 17/07/2019 21:31

Shropshire and Yorkshire tie with Northamptonshire second.

ethelredonagoodday · 17/07/2019 21:54

Yorkshire - all of it.

Just on the Yorkshire county councils thing someone mentioned up thread, there were three ridings; west, north and east. Now, in terms of local govt in any case, there is one county council (north York's, which is a two tier administration), and multiple unitaries (so East Riding of Yorkshire, york, Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield etc etc)
But the actual counties are North, east, south and west. (I'm very boring, I work in local govt...🤣🤣🤣)

I'm married to a Cumbrian, so spend a fair bit of time up there. It's lovely in parts, but not so keen on their coastline. Lakes obv lovely though.

Northumberland also beautiful.

SheriffCallie · 17/07/2019 23:33

Co Antrim, without a doubt.

Bumper1969 · 17/07/2019 23:40

What about Kent? Close to London, great heritage, coast and the beer garden of England.

Furries · 18/07/2019 01:48

Am kind of not surprised that I’ve only spotted one vote for Essex (have skimmed quickly though).

It’s a shame, as there are so many gorgeous villages wth beautiful old houses, a bit like some of Suffolk but overshadowed by reality tv perceptions of Essex!

From a visual point of view, a downside is how flat the landscape is so you don’t get a sweeping sense of views. However, it’s a relatively dry part of the UK so makes Autumn and winter a bit easier to cope with.

I love Cumbria, but couldn’t cope with the wetter/colder weather there.

I guess we’re lucky that we’ve got such a range of gorgeous places within fairly easy reach in our small and plentiful Isle!!

1forAll74 · 18/07/2019 03:04

I come from Cheshire, but live in HERTS now and hate it. Cheshire would be my favourite. but love Yorkshire and Lancashire too.

My favourites on Country file tv prog, are when they do up North items.

sashh · 18/07/2019 06:29

I might get killed outright here but I do think there's a sort of superiority when people go on about Yorkshire?

Well that's hardly out fault. I do, obviously, feel a slight pity for those unfortunate enough to be born elsewhere and be brought up without our sense of humour.

JacquesHammer · 18/07/2019 06:51

Northumberland is lovely but North Yorkshire is sheer perfection.

IamTheMeg · 18/07/2019 06:54

Yorkshire

Just for the beauty

And cos I live here

Delatron · 18/07/2019 07:11

I think Yorkshire wins. No point in arguing with a majority vote!

I have heard Northumberland is beautiful too though so must visit and spend more time there.

JacquesHammer · 18/07/2019 07:17

We have best of both worlds. Live in Yorkshire, visit Northumberland regularly for holiday.

CapybarasLoveCake · 18/07/2019 07:56

Dorset. In particular, the Purbecks.

DoctorTwo · 18/07/2019 09:58

I mean, what does Yorkshire have that beats the countryside around the Stiperstones and the Long Mynd??

"Clunford, Clungunbury, Clunton and Clun,
The four quietest places under the sun."

The countryside in and around South Shropshire is imo the most beautiful in the UK. The Stiperstones, The Devil's Chair and The Long Mynd are super, and the view from the top of Brown Clee takes your breath away.

Even Telford has The Wrekin. Looking north towards the Cheshire Gap is another stunning view. I used to be able to see my house from there. :o

yomommasmomma · 18/07/2019 10:03

Suffolk

thethethethethe · 18/07/2019 10:17

North Yorkshire is beautiful, but many parts of Scotland are stunning. It's partly to do with the light.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 18/07/2019 11:14

I think there are lots of places that compete, and are probably better than Yorkshire on individual categories, e.g:

Coastline - Pembrokeshire or Cornwall
Mountains - Scottish highlands, Cumbria
Wild moors - Northumberland

But Yorkshire has it all.
