@Hithere12 and others talking about ‘natural selection’.

Surely the same could be said for people with cancer who have chemotherapy? Or people having organ transplants? Or someone having a heart bypass? Or using a defibrillator to revive someone ? Are you against all those things too??

How are those examples any different to using IVF?

Hithere12 · 06/07/2019 20:52

Rystall

Because those people are already alive. They aren’t trying to reproduce. It’s the next generations I’m worried about.

Many scientists have raised the alarm on IVF, but there is too much profit in it.

Hithere12 · 06/07/2019 20:58

If you wanted to breed cats and a certain cat you tried to use to make kittens was unable to become pregnant you’d know instinctively to not artificially pump it was drugs to get it to reproduce. You’d realise that cat probably shouldn’t reproduce.

Also just a reminder this thread is “unpopular opinions”. There are many things I’ve found offensive you don’t see me quote tweeting them and demanding answers.

This thread has been derailed by people saying things like “I like dogs” as their unpopular opinion. 🙄 On what fucking planet is that an unpopular opinion.

Soola · 06/07/2019 21:01

I like dogs but I’m not keen on Yorkshire terriers, they tend to be greasy faced and yappy.

runningheights · 06/07/2019 21:04

@MockerstheFeManist I don’t care if it’s an unpopular opinions thread. I agree 100% that 16 year olds deserve the vote. However it’s just fucking disgusting that once you reach a certain age, your right to vote which if you’re a woman/working class man/poc especially the suffragettes/suffragists and many other groups fought for you to have should be stripped away from you.

RangerLady · 06/07/2019 21:04

I strongly dislike dogs
I think people who don't believe in climate change are thick as two short planks
I might have been happier minus children (I do love them but man it's hard)

And the main one. Everyone is far too keen to share their feelings/ cry / hug / decide they have "anxiety" which is often an excuse for being rude or having things all their own way. I don't need others to know how I feel, I prefer to maintain a stiff upper lip thank you!

KittenSnuggler · 06/07/2019 21:19

Tattoos look shit. You look like one of those Barbie dolls in the GP's waiting room toy box that have been scribbled on with a biro. I'm on a couple of FB groups about dresses, beauty etc. and I see so many gorgeous women posing in beautiful frocks with hideous scribble - in my view of course - on their chests, necks and down their arms. They just look ugly to me.

A friend of mine had quite a pretty tattoo of dolphins circling round her belly button when she was 21. She's now 45 and has 3 kids and it looks nothing like it did, you can imagine, and she's desperate to have it removed.

My DH has tattoos and I think the same about his. I don't like them. But his body, his choice. He doesn't give a shit; as should nobody else about my unpopular opinion.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 06/07/2019 21:25

"This thread has been derailed by people saying things like “I like dogs” as their unpopular opinion. 🙄 On what fucking planet is that an unpopular opinion."

It's pretty unpopular on Planet MN where every dog is a disgusting flea ridden out of control rabid beast just waiting to maul your child to death. And they always, ALWAYS stink.

Amibeingdaft81 · 06/07/2019 21:28

So you “instinctively” know that to pump people full of chemo drugs in order to sustain life that would otherwise end due to disease - is wrong?

I don’t see how you can argue with respect to IVF and not see that not following through to disease / organ donation etc doesn’t make sense

Fact it - neither makes sense.

How do you explain that vast majority of IVF babies are born 100% fit and healthy?

runningheights · 06/07/2019 21:28

Not a fan of cats. They kill birds and yet are treated as pets and yet a farmer could shoot a fox killing her birds but not a cat because they’re domesticated but somehow are allowed to roam freely which dogs aren’t and there are laws in place to stop dogs.

KittenSnuggler · 06/07/2019 21:40

Oh... If you support Brexit - and a 'no deal' at that, then you are really fucking stupid and haven't taken the time to have done any meaningful research as to how the UK's membership of the EU has benefitted us over many years.

I'd be interested to know what exactly the EU has done specifically to make you want to leave. Please don't say stuff like 'sovereignty' or 'control of our borders' which we've always had and never lost. Real things that the EU has stopped us from doing.

Exmoor · 06/07/2019 21:45

Netmums is a great websiteHalo

BillywigSting · 06/07/2019 22:40

@Exmoor Shock heathen!

coldwarenigma · 06/07/2019 22:54

This could be cathartic, but I'll get my coat ready in case..
If a FT employee needs top up from government to get a decent income, the employer is not running a viable business model.
An employer is there to make money, if you cant do the job , get another...The third bout this year of ‘anxiety and depression’ whenever the weather is nice is bloody obvious when it clears the moment the sun goes in, and you chose to have kids its up to you to sort childcare, not expect the business to pander to you.
There should be a mass social housing building programme, Buy to let should be restricted with rent caps, to under social rent levels. These new properties should be aimed at employed, low to middle income earners (real figures not the inflated averages) , make the properties something for the lowest tier want to strive/aspire for, remove stigma/judgement of ‘social’ housing.
Reality shows are shit (who the Fuck is Kim Kardiwhatsername, what has she achieved to warrant her fame, I know the name but couldn’t tell you what she has done?)
Not all DC who are behind have SEN, there are children out there who are just a bit…well…dim…
Obese DC are, unless they have rare genetic conditions, fat because of their parents. As such parents should be held to account.

Finally, because I could keep going,

Being judgemental is not necessarily a bad thing, societal pressure is often more effective than a legislative rule book.

Pannalash · 07/07/2019 02:52

There is no good reason for anyone over the age of 30 to go to a festival.

skippy67 · 07/07/2019 03:45

Oh dear. Someone should've told Kylie before she did Glasto.

Maniak · 07/07/2019 04:07

I like being fat. I like my big round heavy self. Losing weight feels like an unnecessary apology.

julensaor · 07/07/2019 04:10

all gay men are at least slightly misogynistic in nature - your gay best friend does not give a shit about your existence, only about what they can get from you.

BenWillbondsPants · 07/07/2019 07:06

There is no good reason for anyone over the age of 30 to go to a festival.

Genuinely don't understand this one. Grin

LaMarschallin · 07/07/2019 07:22

Can't find the post above to make a direct quote, but it suggests that paramedics notice the "Baby on Board" signs and search harder to find the "Baby".

Paramedics are very well trained and, after dragging out the driver, wouldn't say: "Well, there's no Babe/Cheeky Monkey/Little Prince(ss) in there. Let's just leave it".

They may judge people who can't be bothered to take such signs (eg "Grandkiddy/RandomFootballTeamSupporter") out when the GK or RFTS isn't in situ, but will still put their lives at risk checking the vehicles.
Not because of the sign; it's what they do.
But if you truly believe that vehicles with "Baby on Board" (or similar) signs are treated differently, then take them out when said baby (or similar) isn't On Board.
Every. Single. Time.

And my own opinion is that "Baby on Board" signs may be one way of saying: "I may be ugly as sin but once somebody had sex with me. So there".

Decormad38 · 07/07/2019 07:56

People who constantly post memes on Facebook need to work more.

Booking endless activities for your kids after school so that they constantly look knackered and she'll shocked is not good parenting.

Realised I have many more but probably best kept to myself!

EtonM3ss · 07/07/2019 08:22

Some parents deliberately make their kids clingy because theyre scared of life

roisinagusniamh · 07/07/2019 08:25

Some parents are overly involved in their children's' lives because their own is disappointing .
