Was discussing this with DD and her friends and thought it would make a great mumsnet thread.

Here are mine,
I cant stand Eastenders
I find Love Island boring
I dont like Ed Sheeran

@SlowLiving it’s not though, is it? I can’t be bothered to go through all the economic issues mentioned up thread, they’ve been discussed. Medications and disabilities are more complex than calories in versus out.

I totally agree that obesity is a massive (ha) issue but it’s not a black and white solution sadly, particularly in subsets of the population. I’ve worked in this area and it’s a multifaceted issue, it really is. Education is essential and just not provided.

Considering my other unpopular opinion was ‘sport is life’ - aka I work in it, study it and practice it - you can take wild guesses as to my size, health and activity levels.

formerbabe · 06/07/2019 13:10

I'm another one who hates tattoos, especially on women. I see so many women in their thirties/forties with cheap looking tattoos on their upper back whilst wearing vests/summer dresses. It looks so dated, tacky and classless.

LeSquigh · 06/07/2019 14:00

IVF should not be available on the NHS or even privately. If you struggle to have a child you aren’t meant to have one and you need to get over it and get on with it.

Child benefit should be means tested.

Paracetamol/ibuprofen/anything available over the counter should not be prescribed to ANYONE, no exceptions.

Dogs stink. Also on the dog theme, having a puppy is really not the same as having a newborn and you are completely deluded if you think this is the case.

A lot of people on Mumsnet make a lot of stuff up, especially relating to how much money they earn.

I agree with the popular unpopular opinion that you are either male or female or identifying as the other. A man is always a man regardless of what operations etc he has.

Manual cars are a pointless waste of time and will eventually die out completely.

Cannabis should be legalised but all other illegal drugs should not be.

Underhisi · 06/07/2019 14:31

"If you struggle to have a child you aren’t meant to have one"

Says who?

"Things happen for a reason", "What's for you, won't go past you" etc are all bollocks.

BenWillbondsPants · 06/07/2019 15:27

These threads always go the same way.

Still, useful for spotting the wankers on MN. Grin

Pannalash · 06/07/2019 15:41

To think that Harry and Meghan are being pompous in creating the veil of secrecy regarding Archie’s christening, and that they are losing public support rapidly.

roisinagusniamh · 06/07/2019 16:37

I agree...Meghan and Harry are desperados !

Amibeingdaft81 · 06/07/2019 16:39

@LeSquigh

The above daft poster wrote

But on another thread she describes her birth experience as being

I had a horrendous first delivery and had PTSD for years. I never thought I could have another. But I did and the second time was much better. I had to have a C section because my placenta was being a nuisance but having had both types of birth I would choose a CS again in a heartbeat. Relaxed and for me a very quick recovery. Most people don’t recover as quick as I did but even without that the whole experience was so much nicer.

So not entirely averse to medical intervention when it comes to new life?! Grin

MauisHouseOnMaui · 06/07/2019 16:56

Funny how "if you struggle to have a child, you weren't meant to have one" doesn't apply when it comes down to "if you struggle to get your child into the world without intervention, you weren't meant to have one."

Give your head a fucking wobble, mate.

Ihatesundays · 06/07/2019 17:15

I don’t struggle to have a child. DH does though. So how would that be fair?

MauisHouseOnMaui · 06/07/2019 17:20

And what about couples who can conceive easily but require IVF to screen out life-limiting genetic disorders?

roisinagusniamh · 06/07/2019 17:29

Love them all !
Although New York and Beverley Hills are my favourites !

Hithere12 · 06/07/2019 17:31

I do agree with this. We have evolution which means only the fittest reproduce in all mammals. If you’re not able to reproduce then you shouldn’t and you’re going against natural selection.

What happens when we have ten generations of IVF babies?

Hithere12 · 06/07/2019 17:39

I just think it’s an experiment where we know very little of the long term consequences. Some scientists have raised the alarm on this.

www.bionews.org.uk/page_95397

Dr Gagneux said: 'I wouldn't rule out that [children born via IVF] could have shortened lifespans. We are engaging in an evolutionary experiment. Assisted reproduction might have a combination of biological and social consequences that people haven't considered enough.'

MauisHouseOnMaui · 06/07/2019 17:42

If you’re not able to reproduce then you shouldn’t and you’re going against natural selection.

Dying in childbirth is also natural selection but no one is saying caesareans, forceps, ventousse, antibiotics, or blood transfusions shouldn't be available.

Ihatesundays · 06/07/2019 17:52

MN is full of people saying everyone should wait to until they can afford children before having them. Reduced fertility is the result often.

MrsDilligaf · 06/07/2019 17:57

Not RTFT...

Mine is that lettuce is an abomination and has no place whatsoever in sandwiches.

WholelottaPaint · 06/07/2019 18:20

You know that the actual structure of someone's pelvis can be the sole reason for this? You can be a healthy weight and still not have a thigh gap depending on the shape, position and angle of your pelvis and hip joints when my Bmi was 20 I didn’t have a thigh gap - my waist was tiny, I thought that was supposed to be s better indicator of healthy weight - don’t think I have ever heard a health professional talk about thigh gap as a measure of health!!!

janebond007 · 06/07/2019 18:53

My unpopular opinion is that if you are setting s tv show or film in Britain hundreds of years ago then instead of being all PC, you need to remember that Britain was much less diverse than it is now, and other parts of Europe too.

So if, for example, you cast a black Mr Darcy - well that's not believable due to the period it's set and the position of black people at the time.

Also don't make male characters female and vice versa or gay just because it would make the story better (again I'm talking about history or shows set during a time it wouldn't have happened)

itwillcost2million · 06/07/2019 19:15

I don't care that most MPs are straight white men.
I hate the recent trend for people (mostly white) to moan about "straight white men" - not for anything bad they've done but just because they're straight white men.
I wish cars had never been invented.

Amibeingdaft81 · 06/07/2019 19:16

@janebond007
Rather than an example that hasn’t actually occurred as far as I know (a black mr darcy?)
What tv shows are you referring to?

Jiggles101 · 06/07/2019 19:27

Some drugs are fun!

LaMarschallin · 06/07/2019 19:47

Mine is that lettuce is an abomination and has no place whatsoever in sandwiches.

Oh yes! And cucumber is worse.

Exmoor · 06/07/2019 19:47

I think a BMI tax should be introduced to find the NHS.Cake

Exmoor · 06/07/2019 19:48

A BMI tax to fund the NHS.
