Why can no one spell...

Does? I'm in a few facebook groups and in nearly everyone, " dose anyone know a recipe" or " dose anyone know a good film" I so want to correct that one word, but that doesn't make you many friends Grin

OP posts:

Ordering takeaway, DDs boyfriend texts "I'll have the sermon please". Quite how salmon got changed to sermon I've no idea.

Twillow · 03/07/2019 19:20

There is a post on today called 'Buyer complainant after competition'.
Clicked through as I was curious about a house bought through a competition.
Turns out presumably autocorrect changed it from the intended meaning of 'Buyer complaint after completion'!

Why don't people READ what they've written fgs??

blueskiesbrighteyes · 03/07/2019 19:26

Babies rather baby's - see it all the time

maddiemookins16mum · 03/07/2019 19:37

It’s the posts on local pages that annoy me....

Does any1 no of eny jobs for a 18 year old I dont drive

Errr, no mate, I’d not be keen on employing you at all.

Squiff70 · 03/07/2019 19:37

'Defiantly' istead of 'definitely' is my biggest bugbear. Why are people so bloody defiant over everything?

Squiff70 · 03/07/2019 19:38

*instead Blush

x2boys · 03/07/2019 19:42

Because Squiff no matter how many times I write definitely auto correct seems to think turbines better than me ,in fact it changed Squiff to Squirt Hmm

x2boys · 03/07/2019 19:43

See ,it's now made me look stupid with turbines 😠

cushioncovers · 03/07/2019 19:44

I am guilty of saying 'would of' 'could of' etc instead of have. I never even realised it was incorrect until someone on here pointed it out to me.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 03/07/2019 19:45

Angle for Angel really boils my piss .

dollyandshirl · 03/07/2019 19:48

I blame phonics, it bollocksed up DC spelling anyway.

Biancadelrioisback · 03/07/2019 19:53

Carnt.

I hate this one so much!

AllHopeAndNoResults · 03/07/2019 19:53

*every one

lazylinguist · 03/07/2019 19:57

It's the internet's fault imo. Misspellings (especially of very commonly misspelt words like 'definitely') are so ubiquitous that they just constantly reinforce themselves in people's minds, or even make reasonably competent spellers question themselves.

People can't help it if they are not natural spellers, and it's unkind to look down on them for it. Some people's memories just don't retain spellings easily. I'm very good at spelling, but I can't remember directions or maths methods to save my life.

The thick bastards around here take their kids trickle treating at Halloween

Lobsterquadrille2 · 03/07/2019 20:35

Someone I was going to have to have a working relationship with telephoned me and his opening line was "I've been told that myself should to yourself."

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 03/07/2019 20:41

@Bookworm4 Couldn't agree more.

This! Mumsnet seems to be particularly bad with the word 'reign' (as in 'given free reign(rein)) I've seen it so often on here that now the correct 'rein' looks wrong Angry

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 03/07/2019 20:45

It's wilful ignorance. Education or lack thereof doesn't stop someone realising they've been spelling it incorrectly, they just don't care to correct themselves. All these people looking for Chester Draws on Facebook has never seen "Chest of drawers for sale" written before?

nicecuppaforme · 03/07/2019 20:58

Is it hard to imagine that a lot of adults have literacy problems?

mazv1953 · 03/07/2019 20:59

"Practise" used when it should be "practice" Grr!

MrsAJCrowley · 03/07/2019 21:03

People who use wandering when they mean wondering do my head in. Also people who use gift as a verb (‘i was gifted this’) and darling as an adjective (‘oh she just looked darling’).

No.
Just no.
Get in the sea Angry

chilledteacher · 03/07/2019 21:08

I'm a teacher, I'm good at deciphering strange spellings. But this one has completely alluded me-no idea what it's meant to say...

Defiantly is due to people typing ‘definately’ and it being changed by autocorrect. Still bloody annoying though!
