What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?

Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

For me it's polarised prescription sunglasses and also prescription swimming goggles.

Being able to see the kids in the pool is fantastic. No longer have the worry of losing them because I can't see!

£4,000 on invisalign. I smile freely now!

Dyson hairdryer
Cloud 9 straighteners
MacBook Air
iPad
Nespresso machine

RosaWaiting · 29/06/2019 19:14

I shouldn't have clicked on this

I just bought a new tiny vacuum for my tiny flat, which has no room for the mop and bucket...

I should have bought a Crosswave!! That looks so good!

does it have issues getting clogged up with hard water?

RingtheBells · 29/06/2019 19:31

I just googled Crosswave and it come up with a cordless one on Amazon which looks very nice. These sort of threads can sometimes work out very expensive as I suddenly really need something that I didn’t previously know existed Grin

ATowelAndAPotato · 29/06/2019 19:37

Yes @Benjispruce definitely a splurge on my part.

Although I think I paid about £150 on Amazon for mine as it had a tiny dent in it, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to see it from where it was going in the kitchen.

I bought it when we moved house a couple of years ago. Still looks fab and I still love it. Well, as much as one can “love” a bin...!

Chillichutney1 · 29/06/2019 19:43

In the same vein as many pp - my visiting mattress and base - cost around £4K but worth every night of sinking my bones into the bed and going ‘aaah’.. maybe that’s just my age as well I don’t know Grin

My down die zudecke duvet, my silk summer weight duvet, my Christy bedding... can you tell I really enjoy time spent in bed!

UGGs - I wear those most of the year, I have reynauds and my feet never turn blue anymore from the cold.

Adidas gazelles - really comfy and light, I could walk in these forever

Canada goose Down coat - super warm, started doing the school run a few years ago and really felt the cold, this last winter I’ve been toasty warm, and I do wear the coat until around April so it is well used.

David Lloyd membership, we have a cheaper gym near us but the free (as in included in the membership) kids classes and activities make it worth it. Also the outdoor pool is lovely during summer and feels like a day out.

Huda liquid lipstick - I hate the waxy feel of lipsticks but this is lovely and feels like a light cream going on but has long lasting and intense pigment

kerkyra · 29/06/2019 19:53

My hotter boots, feels like I'm walking on air.sometimes wear as slippers too!

OneInAMillionYou · 29/06/2019 19:57

Air conditioning for the upstairs of our house. Got it ten years ago and it's the best money I've ever spent.

OhGrimbles · 29/06/2019 20:00

Chantecaille Future Skin foundation.

Rigby and Peller for bras with a proper fitting each time.

Comfortable shoes in general.

OhGrimbles · 29/06/2019 20:02

Yes, the Dustin Air Wrap was a bit of a splurge that I don’t regret.

OhGrimbles · 29/06/2019 20:02

Dyson even

user1471453601 · 29/06/2019 20:04

Top of the range hearing aids. They should have cost six k but they had a two for one offer.

I've had NHS aids for over 15 years, and while I was grateful, the difference these make is just amazing.Top

For the first time in over a decade I feel like a fully integrated member of society. I've also rediscovered the joy of eavesdropping 😊

DrDreReturns · 29/06/2019 20:04

Good quality shoes. I do a lot of walking to work and back, it's one thing I won't compromise on.

PatchworkElmer · 29/06/2019 20:05

Silk pillowcase
Prescription sunglasses
Decent bras

bourbonbiccy · 29/06/2019 20:07

Dyson airwave, simply brilliant (but it was husbands splurge really )

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 29/06/2019 20:09

Dc4 - we called her our luxury extra. Because she’s expensive, unnecessary, and an unjustifiable luxury. And makes our life better.

LesserBohemian · 29/06/2019 20:10

A vispring mattress - proper spendy but oh my god, so comfortable!

The only trouble is feeling the difference when we go away!

OhGrimbles · 29/06/2019 20:11

I haven’t read the entire thread but it seems that bras, shoes and mattresses are in the premier league of worthwhile splurges which stands to reason. Followed closely by bins and vacuum cleaners?

I should have added that the simple human bin with recycling compartment has given me an inordinate amount of satisfaction for the outlay too.

BoudiccaKate · 29/06/2019 20:14

Skydive.

I'm seriously thinking about selling my flat so I can afford to do it more

What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?
Ronsters · 29/06/2019 20:15
