What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?

Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

Laser eye surgery

Winenotttea · 29/06/2019 20:40

I forgot our bed, super king from John Ryan and was a bloody fortune but my god it’s sooooooo comfortable. My bad back (that involved me crawling out of bed) disappeared literally overnight.

@user1471453601. My NHS audiologist said not to buy expensive hearing aids as they were no better than NHS ones. I’m not happy with the ones prescribed, may I ask the name of your private hearing aids.

A couple more from me:

Double Wear foundation
Benefit Dandelion - best blusher ever
St Tropez fake tan - I'm a recent convert to fake tan but really like this

Has anybody got an All Saints jacket and would recommend the outlay? My old Oasis one is starting to look a bit worse for wear, although it's been utterly brilliant.

My bugaboo prom such a lovely push even with a hefty toddler in.

BestIsWest · 29/06/2019 21:04

Prescription swimming goggles and decent swimsuits- cheap ones discolour and rot.

A Joseph breadbin. I don’t even eat much bread (DH does) but it’s such a lovely colour.

dairymilkmonster · 29/06/2019 21:06

dualit toaster - 4 slice (can heat 2 or 4 elements), bought 2006 and still going strong.

magimix - used regularly, bought c.2007.

Lakeland cake tins

Bespoke radiator for our not enormous bedroom with a bizarrely shaped bay-like window. Was expensive but is so space efficient and provides more heat than an off the shelf one (due to being bigger)

Madcatgirl · 29/06/2019 21:07

Log burners.
le crueset casserole dish.
Good quality furniture.
Decent evening shoes.
Decent evening dresses.
Good quality country boots.
Prescription sunglasses.
My little car - I adore it. It makes me happy.
Samsonite suitcases. Think I bought them in 2002!

I’m a buy once, but wise person. Very much brought up that way by my old school father and relatives.

Sleepyquest · 29/06/2019 21:09

My mattress! Was from Next and had to get finance but it's paid off now and I'm so happy I invested in it as I use it so much (obviously!)

plobsalt · 29/06/2019 21:12

I'm sad to see Canada Goose jackets are so popular in the UK. Their treatment of the animals they use is appalling.

Madcatgirl · 29/06/2019 21:14

I thought of another. Bought my boys Treds shoes last September. One pair have had to be replaced, which was down free of charge under their guarantee. My other son hasn’t wrecked his and he has managed to trash doc martins in the past (ASD. One of his things is over pulling laces, get dragging, etc.£ Genuinely thrilled with them, I will be buying them again.

HundredMilesAnHour · 29/06/2019 21:26

Good quality silk pillowcases. Good quality bedding full stop. I always buy the best I can (but during sales) as I'm a rubbish sleeper and every little bit helps.

My antique elm bed (bought on sale in Hong Kong when I lived there and shipped back to the UK). Makes me feel so grown-up! And it's beautiful.

My Gaggia Titanium coffee machine. It was expensive at the time and a big upgrade from my old Gaggia Baby but I use it every day and it's been worth every penny.

Good quality - and well designed - shoes and bags. Again I try to get them during sale periods. They last for years and can you really upgrade an outfit. I tend to buy from small/niche designers rather than big name brands as I can't stand logos or having the same bag/shoes as everyone else. Although I do have a Prada bag from over 20 years ago that I often use and it still looks good (logo is tiny and hidden so people never know it's Prada). I remember buying it still. It was the first ever time I've been in a Prada store (I went in with an ex who was collecting some clothes he'd had altered). I was wearing Asda trousers and had sand all over my feet (I'd just been paddling in a nearby lake) but the staff were so lovely to me (probably helped by my ex having dropped thousands there the previous day). Every time I use my bag it brings back some amazingly happy memories.

To be honest, I have always bought the best I can afford, even if I have to stretch myself a little. Then I really look after it and have it for years. I'm a very firm believer in the "buy once, buy well" concept.

Tooth bleach I have a calcified tooth that slowly discoloured. The only option I was ever given was to bleach the roots. My new dentist told me 1 tooth was possible and easy. I now have a nice white smile and no root damage.

Agree on the Tag Heuer watch, I love nice watches but I've worn my Tag almost every day for 12 years and it's still as good as new. My husband has one too but he got his from work as a thank you for a job well done.

Ronsters · 29/06/2019 22:05

Also, the gardener. The garden looks great. He does the heavy work and I can do the enjoyable bits, pottering, planting.
