Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

I’m now eyeing up the instant pot!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/07/2019 20:00

Can't believe this is still going, but very glad it is.

Has anybody mentioned towels yet? I've just taken delivery of some luscious, HUGE, towels in the John Lewis sale, which are making me very happy!

I hear you @StCharlotte! A few years ago bought a pair of (non polarised) Tom Ford Miranda sunglasses because I loved the look of them but as sunglasses they are crap. They have been languishing in a drawer for an age as I much prefer polarised Wayfarers these days.

Interested in the instant pot too!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/07/2019 20:11

Okay - how about we take the thread in a slightly different/broader direction too? So, here's some things I want to 'upgrade' in the next few months. Any recs for the 'best' versions?

Work tote bag - am thinking Longchamp. Yay or nay?
Black turtle neck jumper, since these are pretty much my casual uniform in the winter
Brown ankle boots that have a slight air of 'street urchin' about them!
Plain black t-shirts with a scoop neck
A new flask - small and light
A food flask
A lovely, everyday perfume

Feel free to join in with your 'upgrade me' list, or add recs for the above!

Ooh I want a lovely grapefruit smelling perfume! I have Marc Jacob’s Eau so Fresh Blush which is good but the smell doesn’t seem to last.

Any recommendations for an upgrade?

Daddylonglegs1965 · 11/07/2019 20:28

A good moisturiser from Clarins. I rarely wear make up but like my skin to feel good.
Babyliss Big hair brilliant for styling curly hair smooth like a salon blow dry.
Cordless hoover.
Brooks 10 expensive trainers feel like walking on air.

Sat nav.
Anything and everything by Brabantia has been fab our ironing board, kitchen bin, toilet roll holder and twirly washing line thing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/07/2019 20:28

Did Origins once do a grapefruit perfume, or am I misremembering?

A great Valco strolller for our toddler. It makes a difference what you use when you use it every day. MacBook is my must have now. Cannot imagine switching to anything else. Fjallraven parka. You need a good one where I live. Actually I have started buying "smart" clothes and it works really good! Waterproof, rainproof, with coating, comfortable and warm. The same applies to shoes. Oh nothing is appreciated more than good comfort in cold weather! A multicooker. Saves hours literally!

My le crueset pans are about 30 years old.
The wooden handle on the small saucepan has really started to go and needs replacing.
Do you think Le Crueset will help?

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 11/07/2019 21:30

Remus i like merino wool turtle necks and i love the ones uniqulo do. They wash really well and are lightweight, but warm. Not sure they have any at the moment, but check in the autumn.
My favourite flask in my contigo metra/transit one. I've tried a few over the years and this is the one i love.

Weathergirl1 · 11/07/2019 22:32

@ihatethecold quite probably. They definitely sell replacement knobs for the casserole kids - would be worth an ask.

Weathergirl1 · 11/07/2019 22:33

Jo Malone Grapefruit is one of my standards, love it.

For everyday 'cheapie' (relatively!) perfume, Clarins Eau Dynamisante has been my favourite for years. Don't always use it, but when I've not had it on for a while, I remind myself how much I love it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2019 08:39

Thanks, Hairy. Will have a look at Uniqlo when the A/W stock comes in.
Whitney - I also love the Clarins, especially in the Autumn when its spiciness feels somehow more appropriate in the crazy chasm that is my mind!

To the previous poster who recommended the french butter from Waitrose - thank you much, it's absolutely gorgeous Smile

ihatethecold · 13/07/2019 12:41

www.welshcountry.co.uk/shirgar-butter/

this is without doubt the best butter ever.

Weathergirl1 · 13/07/2019 13:45

No no, best butter at Waitrose is Guernsey Dairy butter!! Genuinely from Guernsey cows on the island 😍😍

BestIsWest · 13/07/2019 14:42

ShirGar butter is very very delicious.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2019 17:03

Only on Mumsnet would you get people arguing about butter! Grin

Just treated myself to a lovely new handbag in Jigsaw. Oops.

I'm not even a handbag person really, but have been looking for a small red one for ages.

I couldn't think of one, but just remembered my pyrolytic oven. I like to pretend I'm the survivor of a nuclear attack and am cleaning up fallout dust when I wipe it off after running a program. Grin

BestIsWest · 13/07/2019 18:06

To be honest, I’ve never come across a butter I didn’t like! Even the weird Canadian whipped butter.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2019 18:18

Spam - love that!

Speaking of butter, I was at a poshish restaurant last week where the sublime sourdough bread was served with whipped yeasted butter which was one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth.
