What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?

Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

I would love to know which brand bean to cup coffee machines are recommended?
Which beds and mattresses - thinking of buying a super kingsize and mattress. I have begun to think I have a dust mite allergy to want to buy a mattress that is free of allergens.

Bedsheets4knickers · 01/07/2019 21:38

Botox

Smokeonthewater · 01/07/2019 21:39

Best butter is grass fed so Kerrygold for example. Ditto grass fed beef.

Dora26 · 01/07/2019 22:06

Kerrygold - “from the world’s greenest dairy land” - nothing compares!

NewYoiker · 02/07/2019 08:27

The heated alters from lakeland are currently £59.99...

NewYoiker · 02/07/2019 08:27

Airer not alter !

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 02/07/2019 10:09

My Delonghi cofffee maker it’s not bean to cup and cost about £160 but I use my Kenwood chef titanium another best ever buy to grind the beans, as well as to make brilliant pastry and all manner of other food.
Like others have said a really good mattress, we have an Ikea topper to help preserve it too.
Finally bedding. Hungarian goose feather duvets from JL in various seasonal weights and their top of the range high count cotton sheets.

LittleLongDog · 02/07/2019 11:16

A heated alter might be a good idea for some chilly churches though @NewYoiker

Quick - get the patent in before anyone else does!

GaryWilmottsTeeth · 02/07/2019 11:54

@LittleMachine

any recommendations for all inclusives with private pools that you've stayed at? Would be good for grumpy misanthropic DH! Grin

Also, for those of you that have had botox, can I ask how old you are and how did you decide where to go? I'm quite interested in the idea but don't want to end up with the frozen face look and don't know when is a good age to start (i'm 41).

YumyumAndyum · 02/07/2019 12:02

A@GaryWilmottsTeeth 41 is good age
You want to start before established wrinkles

Spidey66 · 02/07/2019 12:24

My dog and my electric bicycle.

sonjadog · 02/07/2019 12:26

Oh yes, my electric bicycle! I love mine.

Usernamealreadyexists · 02/07/2019 12:48

@SmellMySmellbow I absolutely adore the mask!! I have the serum you mentioned too but wasn’t too impressed. Will try again. How do you use it - under moisturizer?

My Cartier Ballon Bleu watch - a thing of beauty and really finishes off any outfit.

My Parlux hairdryer - will never go back to crappy Boots £10 one that i used for 10 years.

RagingWhoreBag · 02/07/2019 12:53

@Smokeonthewater mine is the DeLonghi Eletta plus. Did lots of research on reviews etc and this one was a great balance of features/quality/price. Def recommend it.

Although making tea at the moment Grin

My Bluetooth speaker. Perfect for background jazz at a party, better than the cheap stereo in the HGVs I drive, and the battery only needs recharging every other day.

Also buying a house with one more bedroom than we needed. Means guests don't have to sleep on the sofa.

Soubriquet · 02/07/2019 13:16

Just place marking to read later

butterboo · 02/07/2019 14:29

Bose wireless headphones, business class flights and first/business lounge access (I travel very frequently).
Beautiful handbags - currently wearing Louis Vuitton- it makes me smile.
Chanel Perfume and Mac makeup
Striking artwork - we have several semi expensive paintings, I love that they inject our modern house with personality.
Plantation shutters - keep the sun out in summer and the heat in during winter plus they look fabulous

SmellMySmellbow · 02/07/2019 14:30

@Usernamealreadyexists straight onto clean skin before moisturiser. Wasn't an immediate difference but using it twice a day I just noticed that I never got blemishes or any sort any more!

Treefloof · 02/07/2019 14:32

To a pp about Canada goose coats, not every coat has fur or down. I am allergic to feathers anyway so down is out. They still do lovely trench coats with no fur or down, still megabucks too but probably better for the planet because you dont just throw these things away. I gave my last one away, its probably still wearable too.

In regards to the thread I like ugg boots. There are some truly waterproof ones and I always wait for a sale. Never pay more than about £80 ish. Even if that means I miss out.
On to the quilt buyers. I need a heavy quilt that's not warm. Been looking at wool filled and silk filled. The price is similar, the lifespan is similar, but i still have no clue which to buy. This is a once this decade purchase so its gotta be right. Any help appreciated.

OralBElectricToothbrush · 02/07/2019 14:38

I want to marry these but I'm already married! They are perfect for long-haul travel and noisy hotels and the like (if you travel for work a lot or just travel):
earbuds

My Fitflop slippers. The best if you have plantar fasciitis.

beanaseireann · 02/07/2019 17:33

Treefloof
I bought a silk filled duvet ( and duvet covers)
The duvet itself is awful, I think.
It's sold as being warm in winter and cool in summer. It's NOT. It's just a thin, flat thing.
I far prefer my far cheaper The Fine Bedding Company Breathe duvet.
I loved the silk duvet covers but I washed them in the washing machine and after a few years they ended up torn and unusable. Sad
I'm not in a position financially to repurchase. DH and I use seperate single size duvets on the same 6 ft bed.Soak and Sleep don't sell single bed size silk duvet covers anymore and alternative brands are too expensive.

Treefloof · 02/07/2019 18:06

Cheers bean, looked at fine bedding co. Some nice quilts but for the size I want it's almost as much as a clearance silk or wool. Am going to try a clearance one before I spend hundreds.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 02/07/2019 18:09

Braces aged 36. Very complex work via Harley street. Block braces top and bottom. Cost a shocking amount of money but worth every single penny. I can finally smile and have photos with my ds instead of hiding

Ated · 02/07/2019 18:49

My Jukebox, so much better than a CD player and more colourful.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 02/07/2019 19:31

Just remembered my hearing aids. £5k+ gave me my life back.
