What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?

Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

These chopping boards. Silly money for choppong boards but I always seemed to have them cluttering up around the kitchen with no real home. Now I always have a clean one available, and they are small enough to put in the dishwasher. Makes me happy. :)

But splurge was We landscaped our garden from someone else's extremely cluttered dream to an open space. I love it so much! And then about a year later I got a monthly gardener, as I was spending too much time cleaning it and not enough enjoying it. Also a great investment!

Indulgences for me are my branded toothpaste and mouthwash instead of cheap ones, Yankee candles and a monthly appointment at the chiropractor for my back issues. These could be scaled back to save money but I do like them and benefit from them.

fraxion · 01/07/2019 10:43

These chopping boards.

We've had them for a few years but they could do with replacing as they are starting to look a bit tatty.

NinaAzarova · 01/07/2019 10:50

Biggest expense ever but life changing: silent windows (Hugo Carter). We live on a very busy road and nearly didn't buy the house because of the traffic noise through the double glazed windows. We researched soundproofing a LOT and replaced several windows and French doors with these - They have made such a difference and look great, not PVCish. It's brought what was noticeable noise down to barely background level.

Newuseroftheweek · 01/07/2019 10:57

Fraxion, that's probably true, they are wearing out but it's not a huge amount and brings me enough happiness to buy them again.

Yes, we would definitely buy the same ones again. We have the large ones and they take up no space at all on the worktop.

Is anyone else spending money off the back of this thread?

So far have looked at 20 different websites, saved 7, signed up for emails so I know when the sales are on.
To add, one of my winter jackets is from Canada goose. Ruinously expensive but I love it. Had one eons ago and eventually got sick of the sight of it so gave it away. It looked like new and back then cost $600.

My little Oxo good grips mandolin

Oh god yes, I can't believe how brilliant it is!

BikeRunSki · 01/07/2019 11:42

Baavet duvet, encouraged by MN last autumn. Lovely to sleep under.

plobsalt · 01/07/2019 11:46

I said this upthread but I'll say it again, I wish people didn't buy Canada Goose. Everyone here avoids it like the plague. The conditions they keep the geese in and way they trap the coyotes is disgusting.

Todamhottoday · 01/07/2019 11:53

@plobsalt are you in Canada?

I was in Stockholm in January and I saw so many people wearing them, I looked at buying one until I saw the cost, dont think the British winter is harsh enough

InezInez · 01/07/2019 12:02

Roomba!

Katinski · 01/07/2019 12:03

Got to be my Bose sound system. I can zone it to any room i want in my large bungalow or have wraparound music. It's truly fabulous. Love it SO muchStar

Katinski · 01/07/2019 12:07

Ooh TonTon one of my American rels is the designer of this, and other Good Grips products.I'll write her that you love itSmile

plobsalt · 01/07/2019 12:18

@Todamhottoday no Maine.

It's heartbreaking how they treat animals. For that money I'd want at least responsibly filled down. And don't even get me started on the horrors the coyotes suffer.

AleFailTrail · 01/07/2019 12:19

I’ve been buying Victorian solid furniture at auction ready for a house move. It’s out of fashion right now so cheaper than it looks (but pricier than new stuff). No regrets, this stuff is made by master craftsmen.

fraxion · 01/07/2019 12:22

I love Oxo Good Grips too. I'm definitely going to buy that mandolin! We have the pop canisters, they are brilliant. Also have a can opener and pizza cutter.

plobsalt · 01/07/2019 12:24

My good grips garlic crush just snapped. Angry

RingtheBells · 01/07/2019 12:26

I just bought the mandolin. I had a £5 Amazon promotion voucher to use up before it went out of date

WellTidy · 01/07/2019 13:43

Typhoon Lomond shape megs. Porcelain, great patterns. I like drinking out of a lovely mug.

Diptique candles - Figueur is heaven. Ditto White Company Seychelles.

Chantecaille Future Skin gel foundation is the best foundation I've used ever by far, and I do not begrudge the £60 that it costs.

Netflix. Never thought we would use it but I am definitely getting my money's worth!

Upgraded from M&S footglove wide fit leather sandals to Moshulu, Wasabi sandals due to my bunions and I am ever so grateful not to have painful feet.

Thick, fluffy towels. I stocked up in BHS before they went under; their Ultimate towels were lovely.

Timber double glazing. The pleasure of no draughts in winter and the windows look authentic.

Dyson cordless makes vacuuming so much quicker and easier and my house is cleaner as a result.

Large emperor bed. 7 feet wide. Bliss.

Reversing camera on the car.

fraxion · 01/07/2019 13:55

White Company Seychelles

I recently dropped a full bottle of the room spray on my bathroom tiles, it fell out of a drawer, thankfully it didn't shatter into a million shards but it was damaged and leaking. I was pissed off! I soaked cotton pads with it and stuck them behind the radiators. Waste not want not Grin

Hadenough4 · 01/07/2019 14:46

Brand new Audi s5 with red leather inside. Love driving it; it makes me happy.

Hadenough4 · 01/07/2019 14:48

Also, Quooker tap and plumbed in fridge, so ice and filtered water 'on tap'.

20,000 litre pond. So relaxing to sit next to and watch the fish.
