What is the name of my DS nursery friend?

DS is 2 nearly 3. His speach is (usually) very articulate. He has never really had "baby talk"

He has been talking about his new friend at nursery. He loves playing with her. He wants her to come for tea. That's great. Except he says her name is Pancake. Which obviously cannot be the case. So what is her name??

OP posts:

Perfectly possible that the nursery has her down under a preferred name

EleanorOalike · 25/06/2019 13:07

In an international school, I taught a girl called Pancake. She had a traditional Chinese name and Pancake was her Western name. We had other Chinese students with names like Apple, Vanilla, Cutie, Berry, Princess etc. To be honest, I don’t find it at all weird/laughable.

We have popular names here that probably sound ridiculous to other cultures and those with EAL. An example would be Elle or Ella, it’s like calling your cat Cat or dog Dog, “What’s your daughter called?” “Girl”, or for Nina, “female child”.

RedCrab · 25/06/2019 13:11

For everyone saying Pancake is a stupid name...the thing with “normal” names is they’re only normal because they’re accepted as such. Imagine Keith being introduced as a name into the general population For the Very First Time. We’d be all - what the fuck is that? How do you pronounce it? It’s not even a word!!

Kids are hilarious.

At least little Keith is most probably the only one in the class.
Unlike Scarlett whose parents thought they were being unusual yet appears twice in the OP'S very short list.

ourmamageddon · 25/06/2019 13:32

Pancake & Keith! This thread has significantly improved my day

SouthernComforts · 25/06/2019 13:44

Pancake and Keith Grin

Gulsink · 25/06/2019 14:07

I've heard of a Chinese girl called Dimple. This thread made me missremeber it as Dumpling at first.

IvanaPee · 25/06/2019 14:08

Scarlett’s parents probably didn’t think they were being edgy at all, and just liked the name Scarlett. Confused

ThighsRelief · 25/06/2019 14:22

A pp mentioned Peter - to me that is utterly run of the mill. Along with Keith.

CistusRose · 25/06/2019 14:28

eurochick · 25/06/2019 15:02

I know a small child called Marble. 🤷‍♀️

Stationeryqueen · 25/06/2019 15:09

We had a lot of confusion about who Doodoo from Nursery was, it was Jordan.

I also know a Mammy and a Poopae both Thai, I suppose really names are just a random collection of letters with meaning attached.

3luckystars · 25/06/2019 15:10

It's Patrick.

3luckystars · 25/06/2019 15:13

Pancake!

All rise for Judge Pancake Beauchamp.

TremblingFanjo · 25/06/2019 15:14

DS (14) plays football with a Keith and a Horace - who are achingly cool and not in a hippy way - really doesn't suit a gangly teenager in designer hoodies.

He also went to nursery with Chisel though. No, her parents weren't keen DIY enthusiasts, they were actually French and she was really called Giselle.

massistar · 25/06/2019 15:16

Thus thread is really brightening my dull conference call.

Chisel.. GrinGrinGrin

Natsku · 25/06/2019 15:17

A little baby Keith sounds adorable

HazelBite · 25/06/2019 15:22

I think Crepe sounds better than Pancake !

You never hear of little boys being called Derek nowadays!

rslsys · 25/06/2019 15:24

So no one has a Keith for a partner or as a DS? Or are they just not prepared to stand up for them?

Debenhamshandtowel · 25/06/2019 15:24

Why is Harry acceptable by not Barry?

Pancake as a name isn’t waffle.

RJnomore1 · 25/06/2019 15:26

We had a Custard. Turned out his mother called him Curtis 😂

Loyaultemelie · 25/06/2019 15:30

Are you in NI?

RandomlyChosenName · 25/06/2019 15:33

We had a friend called Dude. Boringly he turned out to be Jude.

waterlego · 25/06/2019 15:33

My friend’s little boy insisted he’d made friends with a boy called ‘Harshwheel’ at soft play. He turned out to be Archie.
