What is the name of my DS nursery friend?

DS is 2 nearly 3. His speach is (usually) very articulate. He has never really had "baby talk"

He has been talking about his new friend at nursery. He loves playing with her. He wants her to come for tea. That's great. Except he says her name is Pancake. Which obviously cannot be the case. So what is her name??

The Milibands father was born in 1924, Hitler would have been in jail in Germany at the time, or not long out. He was a refugee from Belgium, and seems to have gone by the name Ralph.

Oh. DH heard right. Guess we now know a child called Kiwi. Er....as there can't be too many around I might take this comment down in a bit.

SummerHouse · 26/06/2019 19:05

"Do you think Random will be there?"
"Who?"
"Random."
"Who?"
"Random."
"Oh my god you mean Brandon who you have known for two years."
Kids are so Brandon!

I have just googles "a name that sounds like pancake".

It is really quite alarming.

This thread is ace. My friends son came home talking about Broccoli. They are foreign so they asked me if this would be possible, I said no but I just couldn't work it out. It was Bradley.

PattedPlont · 26/06/2019 19:13

DD came home talking about 'Big 'un'. Her friend's name was actually Megan.

Orangecake123 · 26/06/2019 19:18

Thanks op for this thread.

I will put that name on my future child's name list.

galaxy101 · 26/06/2019 19:19

ShockShockShockShockShockShockShock Pancake 😂😂😂😂😂 I shouldn't laugh but that's brilliant!

EssentialHummus · 26/06/2019 19:20

Tbf I used to live in Brockley and foreign relatives were baffled for years. I remember my cousin telling her son that it was next to Carrot.

At the start of my student teacher days, a child with a very loud voice (it's always the child with the very loud voice) insisted my name was Mrs Rocket. It wasn't. It was only very loosely similar. But Mrs Rocket I became to the delight of my fellow students.

I can't recall occasions with the DCs getting confused over names, although there have been a few with naming objects. Our microwave for example, is still known as Michael, short for Michael Wave, which is what DD was certain it was called when she was younger.

DS2 was in tears on the nursery drop off one morning because we had forgotten to take in his "bevable". I was practically in tears too, desperately trying to work out what he was on about while he was practically screaming at me "Bevable!" It was "vegetable". They were making soup.

DD, now 18 used to love watching Countdown on TV, back in the days of Richard Whiteley and Carol Vordermann. Only the program was "actually" called Carol Countdown and Richard Whiteley was "the Carol man"!

WaitingForMyFabric · 26/06/2019 19:27

We know of a Woody and Rocky. Both their actual names

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 26/06/2019 19:31

I was telling my friend who teaches infants about this thread.
She had a little boy in her class who had recently arrived from China.
One morning, another child came and asked her where ‘who’s that’ was.
It took her a little while to realise that he meant Hau-Yu. (How-you).

Itssosunny · 26/06/2019 19:43

At school we have a few children whose nicknames are on the school list and not their real names. Their real names are just completely different. The nicknames are a bit like pancakes.

Itssosunny · 26/06/2019 19:48

What's wrong with Adolphe?

Itssosunny · 26/06/2019 19:50

Stalin's first name was Joseph and considering how bad that man was, Joseph still is a popular name but I don't think Adolphe is as popular. Probably the old folks only.

Iwantacookie · 26/06/2019 19:51

Ds1 told me about his friend hip. It was Liam Confused
Telling ds2 his new baby cousin had been born called Reggie ds2 thought ide said Wedgie Grin

Carpetburns · 26/06/2019 19:52

Grinthis has really tickled me! Pancake! What a truly awful name

OhMyDarling · 26/06/2019 19:53

My brother had a best friend called “Tart”.
Which me and my mum used to laugh about way too much.
Turns out rheas called Clark.

Baddabingbaddaboom · 26/06/2019 19:53

P. A. N. C. A. K. E???!!! Shock

yoursworried · 26/06/2019 19:55

I really love this thread but pancake is unbelievable!!! Why?!?!
I'm a teacher too and I have heard some bloody silly names. Including Freezer, Chardonnay and Rainbow. But Pancake beats them all.

DelurkingAJ · 26/06/2019 19:57

A toddler I knew many years ago was just starting to talk and my friend Meera was delighted that she could say her name...turns out she was calling her ‘mirror’...

Weemovitchski · 26/06/2019 19:59

GD's school, boys in class one called Burberry, the other Deisel - I shit you not...

opinionatedfreak · 26/06/2019 20:01

I went to school with someone who was given the n.n peach.

Big rugby bloke. I have no idea where it came from but everyone called him that.

Years later I met him in a professional capacity. And couldn’t help exclaiming “Peach!! So nice to see you”

His wife pissed herself laughing and commented that she now didn’t need to ask where we had met as only childhood acquaintances called him that.

LegionOfDoom · 26/06/2019 20:01

My dd insisted her friend at school was called Bumblebee. She called her this all through her first term of reception. It’s only when I got the class list for Xmas cards that I realised her name is actually Bharmpreet. She’s Indian. Her mum found it hilarious when dd said her name and didn’t bother correcting her!

Baddabingbaddaboom · 26/06/2019 20:03

Wait what?! Freezer!? Wtf is wrong with people!!
