What is the name of my DS nursery friend?

DS is 2 nearly 3. His speach is (usually) very articulate. He has never really had "baby talk"

He has been talking about his new friend at nursery. He loves playing with her. He wants her to come for tea. That's great. Except he says her name is Pancake. Which obviously cannot be the case. So what is her name??

My 5 year old has insisted for years now that when she has a baby she is calling it pancake. We got a puppy a year ago and I asked her if she wanted to call it pancake, since she loves the name so much, but she insisted that she was saving it for her first born. She wanted to call the dog bus stop.

Funny thread.

DS (7) was reading a book about slavery and freedom trains in the US. He then proceeded to tell me the story, starting with the villain slave owner. Who, DS said, was called Karate Chops.

Despite my disbelief at a slave owner in a historical novel being called Karate Chops, DS was absolutely adamant that was his name. So I picked up the book, and lo and behold, the slave owner was called Marshall.

DS is hilarious.

My name is Susan. The little 2 year old I babysat for years ago used to call me Shoe Shine. 😁

BorisBadunov · 26/06/2019 18:19

@LookingGlassMilk, DS wanted to call his baby Low Profile 😄

StealthPolarBear · 26/06/2019 18:19

That's brilliant :)

When DS was born DD then just turned 4 wanted to call him Highway, she was adamant we should call him that. After a few months of trying to call him it, and us being baffled she revealed it was after the Highway Rat.

BorisBadunov · 26/06/2019 18:21

@nooschmoo, my DD once told me about a new baby she’d met, called Sushi. Real name Suzie.

Didactylos · 26/06/2019 18:25

Usingmyindoorvoice · 26/06/2019 18:27

@fishfingerface1 I used to work with lovely man called Bismarck.

purplebunny2012 · 26/06/2019 18:29

*DD (3) told me all about her friend Peach that she was playing with at the park. She insisted it was definitely Peach.

I asked her older brothers who'd been at the park, eventually figuring out it was actually Paige.*

There is actually a Peach in my son's drama class

purplebunny2012 · 26/06/2019 18:30

Whoops, that was a bold fail

GabsAlot · 26/06/2019 18:34

In one of my DCs class in junior school there were 4 girls called Summer, Autumn , Winta and Storm!
Their teacher used to write an ongoing skit for assemblies based on their names

When my son was little he kept calling his nursery 'my green school' - I couldn't work it out but then it dawned. The school was called Muriel Green School - he heard this as ''your green school' which in his four year old brain became 'my green school'.

AravisQueenOfArchenland · 26/06/2019 18:39

Bismarck is a great name.

BertrandRussell · 26/06/2019 18:40

We called the pup Rowan in the end, ds1 picked it. I wanted to call her Clancy but I never get to chose pet names any more.

I told dd about this thread and she's delighted that there is a real kid called pancake.

BertrandRussell · 26/06/2019 18:45

Honestly- he really was called Adolf! Well, Adolphe. But it’s the same thing.

ElizabethMainwaring · 26/06/2019 18:51

Anne Kate, variations of?

0hT00dles · 26/06/2019 18:52

@Myfriendpeach my dd had a friend in preschool who couldn’t say ‘paige’ so she’d say Peach. Her mum was like ‘peach, are you sure that’s her name?’ And my dd kept coming home laughing because her best friend called her Peach. Pretty much lasted the year as she found it hard to say.

Sidge · 26/06/2019 18:54

DD3 told me in infants about a new girl in her class called Kidney. I lived in a town where parents were prone to giving their kids quite unique names but I thought that was a bit far out even for there.

I found out later it was Sydney.
