Can I ask why anyone would think it was ok to use this word?
Or to call another human being this.
I personally, think, and it’s only imho, but it the most debased word ever. As a child, where I live, you would only ever hear dockers and like using it! I hate it.
Now, it’s flung around like an adjective? Why?

I don't think it's that bad. It's just a word. Languages change and evolve.

What makes a word 'debased' to you? There's no real malice in the word, only when it is used in context, directly against somebody, but any word or group of words could be offensive in specific context.

It’s just socialisation that makes you think it’s so bad. I use it a lot and it’s actually a very funny word too.

Words are just words - and cunt is one of my most frequently used.

I'm a well educated professional, from a well to do area and a nice family, so it's not just a class thing.

I think there are times when it's very appropriate.
I would never use it in a jokey way, only ever if someone really upset me and deserved it IMO.

I wouldn't be offended by anyone else using it either

I never hear it used. On here it is not uncommon. People say things on forums that they would not say in real life.

Although a cunt is quite substantially worse than a twat.

I use it everyday especially in my head. People can think what they want I don't really care. It's my favourite word at the moment.

I agree with you op I think it is an awful word and a terrible insult to be called that name.

Try and call somebody a cunt in the middle of a conversation or greeting, while keeping a straight face.

It’s just a word - not one I use much admittedly.

However, here in Scotland, it’s used by many interchangeably with “person”

Eg “I just saw some cunt dancing in the middle of sauchiehall street”

But why, WHY, is the supposed 'worst' word one can use an epithet for female genitalia, while all the (many, many) bywords for male parts are, largely, treated as humorous, even affectionate diminutives... I will continue to reclaim cunt quite happily. HTH.

When I was young, it was considered the worst thing you could call someone.

I don't hear anyone say it, none of my friends do, but I see it written online all the time.

@BlueThursday agreed but I think that's relatively recent. It certainly wasn't like that when I was growing up in Glasgow.

I have to admit, it's my favourite word one of my sister's loves it too, when we see each other we know we can use it and not get offended. We'd ofen say "You're such a Cunt" but we just laugh, now with one of my sil's, I used it one day, and she walked out of my house and told her other sister that I was 'common as muck' lol

It's funnyin America it's really, really not used. It's pretty much the last forbidden word (that isn't a racial or homophobic slur)shocking in the extreme to hear it. Families that swear like sailors still don't use it; it tends to be either the raging misogynists or the hippest of the hip that do.

It's a very hard adjustment for Americans when they go to Britain/watch particular British movies.
