Haven’t seen comedy in ages. Who do you recommend?

OP posts:
Sidge · 06/06/2019 23:30

I saw Michael McIntyre at Brighton years ago and laughed so much my face ached. I’d love to see him again.

I’d like to see Sarah Millican and Dara O’Briain.

I saw a guy called Kev Orkian a couple of years ago who was hilarious.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 06/06/2019 23:31

NameChange Grin If I recall I went to Manchester MEN arena to see them. There were women screaming at Rob Newman like it was the Beatles Grin

Catquest1 · 06/06/2019 23:32

Thats quite hard!

Michael Mc - saw as a warm up to the main tour very very funny

Ross noble - bit out there but funny

Adam Hills - very spontaneous but funny

Dylan Moran - very good

Alan Davies - surprisingly funny

Bill Bailey- huge stadium but very good

Phil Cool - not sure he is still going but sentimental gig for us

Sarah Millican i loved her but dh not keen

Andy Parsons - quite rude and political but funny

My favourite is John Shuttleworth but thats an acquired, subtle taste if you like organ music. Plus you can have fun fun fun on the A1111 😂

Waves to Brigit - we were in the front row on Monday. I was choking with laughter.

Hannah Gadsby
Bridget Christie
Stewart Goldsmith (If you’ve never heard of him find him on YouTube. Clever, funny -and cute)
Susie Ruffle

Sparkygal · 06/06/2019 23:35

Billy Connolly was absolutely hilarious a few years ago, loved every minute.

Saw Jason Manford last year and he was also very funny, left with sore cheeks from laughing.

BertrandRussell · 06/06/2019 23:40

I saw Billy Connelly in the 70s- he was sooooooooo funny!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 06/06/2019 23:41

Love Dara O'Briain and Al Murray /Pub Landlord. David O'Doherty is brilliant too, seeing him very soon.

I saw Sarah Millican about 12 years ago, I'd say it was one of her first gigs. I'd love to see her now. Paul Merton about 20 years ago was just incredible.

Recently went to No Such Thing as a Fish podcast recording which was very funny.

Saw Louis CK (pre #metoo vileness) and thought he was very meh. Really didn't like that he had 5 warm up comedians, none of them local.

I don't like "stadium comedy" so don't see many big names any more.

DarkDarkNight · 06/06/2019 23:44

Ross Noble. Very funny and incredibly clever. It was the fizzy logic tour.

Peter Kay, he just has funny bones for me. He’s one of those people who could just make me laugh whatever he was saying. Micky Flanagan had me laughing till my sides ached.

buzzy1 · 06/06/2019 23:48

Kerry Godliman, Jen Brister and Sindhu Vee have been the best acts I’ve seen recently. Their shows have been proper belly laughs, insightful and relatable observations on being a 40 something woman.

ABoozedMoose · 06/06/2019 23:51

I love and have gone back again and again to see: Stewart Lee, Dylan Moran, Richard Herring, Dave Gorman, Ed Byrne, Mark Thomas, Sean Lock, Nish Kumar, Sara Pascoe

I used to like those big nights that Robin Ince put together with all sorts of comedians (and scientists).

I normally hate musical comedy but loved Tim Minchin, Frisky & Mannish and another vote for Abandoman!

Bunnylady53 · 07/06/2019 00:15

DH & I saw Lee Evans & I was in pain from laughing! Paul Merton was hilarious & original - trouble was I kept missing stuff because I laughed for such a long time after each joke/comment!

drigon · 07/06/2019 00:33

Recently- Russell Kane
Mid-90s, The Comedy Store Players ('Who's Line is it Anyway' sort of thing ).

mrsmagoo · 07/06/2019 05:55

Loved Peter Kay, ed Byrne, Billy Connelly. Saw them all years ago.

Didn't much rate Bill baillie, Eddie izzard, miranda Hart, Sarah Millican. But at these events everyone around me was enjoying them so much more than me, with comedy it really is each to his own.

30not13 · 07/06/2019 06:52

@Tidypidy saw Phill Jupitus late last year in a tiny tiny hall, he was fantastically funny

oldmum22 · 07/06/2019 07:08

I forgot to add Alfie Moore , serving Police Officer with observational humour and WWYD scenarios . Very funny and a quick wit

Tidypidy · 07/06/2019 07:18

Phil jupitus just swore a lot and talked about not seeing a puffin. That was it! Just awful but comedy is so subjective.

BonnesVacances · 07/06/2019 07:25

Stand up comedy is our "thing" and DH's cousin is on the comedy scene. We go to the Free Fringe at Edinburgh Festival a lot and many of the comedians we've noted as being good have become more popular.

An up and coming comedian to look out for is Stephen Bailey. If you don't mind crude humour, he's a genuinely funny guy. He has loads of material. I saw him 3 times in the space of about 9 months and he hardly repeated anything.

Rhod Gilbert is my absolute favourite. I leave his gigs with my fave aching.

We're late to the Stewart Lee party but are eagerly waiting for his UK tour dates. I adore Content Provider and can't wait to see him live. Would like to see Bill Bailey too.

CherryValance · 07/06/2019 07:27

Tim Minchin on his orchestra tour was like a rock star - can not wait to finally see him again later this year.

Bill Bailey - seen him loads of times, always erudite and hilarious

Katherine Ryan - seen once and enjoyed immensely

Jack Whitehall - some obviously ‘set up’ moments but still very face hurtingly funny

Dave Gorman - always a very well crafted show

idoliketobebesidethesea · 07/06/2019 07:31

Dara O'Brien

mrsnec · 07/06/2019 07:40

By far the best live comedy I've ever seen was Newman and Baddiel in the 90's. Nothing has ever come close to that. I'd be intrigued to see what David Baddiel is like live these days but I missed his last tour.

If I could see anyone live at the moment I second the sugfestions of Bill Bailey, Tom Allen and Greg Davies but I've not seen them before.

Enjoyed Jon Richardson but we had great seats in a lovely venue and that helped otherwise it was exactly the same as watching him on tv. Same gags we'd heard a million times.

Agree Jimmy Carr is dissapointing but it was years ago.

I also once went to the late Saturday night show at tbe Comedy Store. I wasn't drinking. None of the acts were memorable.

IneedKirstieandPhil · 07/06/2019 07:46

Stewart Lee amazing live definitely my favourite stand up.
Went to see Paul chowdury not having see him before he was fantastic so quick with his interactions with the audience.
Russell Kane entertaining as was jack whitehall.
Jimmy Carr I didn’t enjoy.

WeMarchOn · 07/06/2019 08:07

Jason Manford, have seen him 3 times and he is amazing

mintich · 07/06/2019 08:16

Katherine Ryan
Kevin Bridges
Peter Kay
Rob Beckett
Jimmy Carr
Billy Connolly

Worst I've seen was Jon Richardson, it was at a festival and he seemed uncomfortable. I like his dvds though, so maybe he'd be good in his own show.

mintich · 07/06/2019 08:17

I forgot Chris Rock too.....very funny
