Haven’t seen comedy in ages. Who do you recommend?

Is Phil Cool still going? I saw him about 25 years ago and he was hysterical!

NomDeQwerty · 06/06/2019 21:59

Victoria Wood, Sarah Millican, Rhod Gilbert, Eddie Izzard before he did TV and became a twat, Mickey Flannagan who I thought I'd hate but I howled.
Left Ross Noble in the interval and I was thankful Stephen Merchant's set was mercifully short.

Jeff Dunham - he is hilarious

Saw Bill Bailey on Monday night in Southend ( Larks on tour) and he was totally brilliant.

Russel Brand was also fabulous as was Jack Dee and Jason Mamford.

Jimmy Carr was good.

NannyRed · 06/06/2019 22:07

Foil, Arms and Hogg. Not sureif they’re still on tour now or just finished.

HoppityChicken · 06/06/2019 22:11

Bill Bailey puts on a good show, saw him years ago in a small festival tent and then later in a big theatre venue with bells and whistles, total pro, clever too. Ross Noble however was amazing, relentlessly funny. Saw Billy Connolly and was awful, a never ending chain of swearing and no content, a few people left - it may have been towards the end of his stage shows. Rhod GIlbert is good but material was old. Saw Cannon and Ball many years ago at a corporate gig, absolute filth, old school, hilarious, not what they ever did on the TV.

Politicalacuityisathing · 06/06/2019 22:11

Unfortunately no-one you can see now but ones who have made me laugh the most - Bill Hicks (dead), Billy Connolly (no longer tours) and Eddie Izzard (no longer funny). Oh actually Ross Noble also but that was about 15/20 years ago and no idea if he's still funny.

pigeonscooing · 06/06/2019 22:11

Showing my age now, I saw the Two Ronnies live at the Palladium, Ronnie C forgot his lines Grin Hale and Pace were good too, also liked Jasper Carrott and Pam Ayres.

Come to think of it, I haven't been to see comedy for a long time - I think it will have to be Bill Bailey at the top of the list.

RikGrimesIsMyFavourite · 06/06/2019 22:19

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Al Murray yet, seen him twice, great both times!

JaneJeffer · 06/06/2019 22:22

Tommy Tiernan was absolutely hilarious.

Tidypidy · 06/06/2019 22:25

Reeves and Mortimer years ago. Absolutely crackers but hilarious! Saw Phil Jupitus recently and he was unbelievably shit.

LazyLizzy · 06/06/2019 22:26

Ken Dodd was amazing. Just firing out rib tickling jokes one after the other, no time to take a breath. He was a legend.

LazyLizzy · 06/06/2019 22:27

I recommend Jack Whitehall, he was really funny.

PaneerOfEvil · 06/06/2019 22:28

Great suggestions!

I’d completely forgotten I’d see Dara O’Briain live before Blush

It’s weird how people can change - eg Eddie Izzard. Used to be brilliant, now Hmm

Peter Kay was brilliant. Cried laughing.
Have seen mickey Flanagan twice and both times he loses his mojo after the interval.

Ffsnosexallowed · 06/06/2019 22:30

@Tidypidy - I wept with laughter at Phil Jupitus last week. 😂🤣😂🤣😂

GinisLife · 06/06/2019 22:35

I saw Julian Clary about 20 years ago and we were still crying laughing an hour later and we'd driven home. Absolutely hilarious but saw him again about 5 years ago and he wasn't as funny but still good
Saw Frank Skinner the week after JC and he wasn't as funny but ok
Ken Dodd is just awesome. 5 hours of quick fire wit. He's the master.

I love Jason Manford & Lee Mack currently

BenWillbondsPants · 06/06/2019 22:35

I've seen loads of comedians but Bill Bailey is hands down the funniest human being on the planet. I cried laughing.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 06/06/2019 22:35

Saw John Bishop last year he was excellent.

I would like to see Jason Manford one day.

I also saw Lilly Savage a good few years ago, very good.

I've seen Ross Noble on stage playing the part of Igor in Young Frankenstein. Brilliant and very funny. He's got some 'guns' on him. Phwoar !

ToEarlyForDecorations · 06/06/2019 22:37

Jasper Carrot and Phil Cool were brilliant on stage, albeit over 20 years ago.

PickleC · 06/06/2019 22:38

Greg Davies was great both times we saw him. Dara O'Briain and Ed Byrne have been good. Looking forward to Rhod Ghilbert in the autumn...never seen him but saw previous tour on tv and looked good

James Acaster is so good on tv but just the night I saw him he didn't click with the audience.

Excitedforxmas · 06/06/2019 22:40

Kevin bridges- could hardly breathe

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 06/06/2019 22:41

Dave Allen

Partly wanted him to stop as I was aching so much from laughing

Also Jack Dee and Chris Rock

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 06/06/2019 22:44

Dave Allen (RIP) had me crying with laughter.

Peter Ustinov (RIP) was a wonderful raconteur.

Fascinating Aida were very funny.

I'm going to see Rhod Gilbert this summer. I got a glimpse of him last year at a charity gig and decided to see him when he announced his tour dates.

FlibbertyGiblets · 06/06/2019 22:44

@Watto1 omg Phil Cool. His Morris Minor was LEGENDARY. No one else remembers him.
