Haven’t seen comedy in ages. Who do you recommend?

Love the giraffe joke by Dave Gorman. Funny set and great humour. Seen him a few times and read his books since Googlewack.

elizalovelace · 06/06/2019 21:10

Les Dawson and Roy Barraclough many many moons ago, cried laughing. Jasper Carrot brilliant too.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/06/2019 21:11

Peter Kay.

Kevin bridges
Just love him , so funny

MindyStClaire · 06/06/2019 21:12

Dara O'Briain is brilliant every time, especially in Dublin.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 06/06/2019 21:12

Sarah Millican. I thought Jasper Carrott was hilarious when I saw him in the late 90s but don't know about now.

Stiffasaboard · 06/06/2019 21:12

Paul Tonkinson had DH and I absolutely dying with laughter

Dave Gorman isn’t as side splitting but the whole show is great (seen him three times) and very funny but clever too.

Eddie Izard was awful

Ricky Gervais a real let down and got on his soap box during the gig about something which was a real downer for a comedy night.

Have seen some brilliant less well known acts in local comedy venues especially the after show back room gigs when they are off the cuff and usually testing out new material.

SrSteveOskowski · 06/06/2019 21:12

Frankie Boyle. I don't care what people say about him, he was bloody hilarious Grin

Dara O' Briain was good too.

Ed Byrne was shite.

Breathlessness · 06/06/2019 21:13

Yes, Dara is brilliant. I’ve seen him 3 times.

gassylady · 06/06/2019 21:14

Agree about Dave Gorman especially that giraffe! 😬 But the best is definitely Dara O’Brian so clever weaving the details of audience members all through the show

Runkle · 06/06/2019 21:16

Dara O'Briain is hilarious, Jimmy Carr better second time, Sean Lock brilliant - cried laughing.
Ed Byrne and John Bishop were awful.

rockingthelook · 06/06/2019 21:16

Years and years ago saw Ben Elton, not as political as I thought he would be, but hysterically funny

crosser62 · 06/06/2019 21:18

Peter Kay.. obviously!

Sarah Millican, about 5 times. Absolutely fantastic each and every time.

Jimoin, really funny, understated guy. Youtube the eye brows, funny.

TraffordTansy · 06/06/2019 21:19

Josh Widdecombe
Stephen K Amos
Andrew Maxwell was amazing

TapasForTwo · 06/06/2019 21:19

Many moons ago I saw Mike Harding live (is he still alive even?) he was knicker wettingly funny.
Other great comedians I enjoyed were Bill Bailey - such intelligent humour without having to resort to swearing or smuttiness, Russell Howard and Jack Whitehall.

CatherineVelindre · 06/06/2019 21:20

Rich Hall
Bill Bailey (although the last time we saw him was a bit disappointing compared to previous gigs - he wasn't as sharp.)
Tim Minchin

The best ever was Victoria Wood. Still makes me sad we'll never see another of her shows.

Basically I like shows which combine music with comedy.

sprinkleofsunshine · 06/06/2019 21:22

Haven't seen many comedians live but did really enjoy Micky flannigan some years ago.

ChicCroissant · 06/06/2019 21:24

I was thinking of Mike Harding as well reading this thread - had you laughing one minute and would then go to a serious song (bombers moon). Also played instruments, Le Creusetphone at the end!

He does a programme on Radio 2 now, but not comedy Tapas - he's known for folk music.

MatchSetPoint · 06/06/2019 21:24

Years ago i went to see Bradley Walsh, it was the only thing on at the local theatre one evening I wasn’t too fussed about going but it was the best funniest stand up I have ever seen, I was so glad I went, I have never been to any other Stand up since that has compared.

Dave Spikey was my second favourite and Jimmy Carr the worst.

evilharpy · 06/06/2019 21:26

Billy Connolly about 20 years ago in Belfast. The most I have ever laughed in one day. He was just amazing.

I saw Andy Parsons early in his career in some random comedy club, might have been Camden, I’d never heard of him before then but remember really liking him.

I’d love to see Dara O’Briain.

Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge · 06/06/2019 21:28

First date with dh (4 days after we met) was to see Ross Noble. When we had to miss a show due to prem birth he sent me a hand written baby boy card!
And saw Billy Connolly at 18, had sore ribs for days!!
Still watch stuff on utube at least once a week at work!!

mamapolenta · 06/06/2019 21:29

John Robins. Saw his Edinburgh award winning Darkness of Robins last year. Made me cry with laughter and cry with emotion. Adore him. He's touring again this year.

Sparkletastic · 06/06/2019 21:29

Stewart Lee. Every time.

meow1989 · 06/06/2019 21:32

James Acaster is hilarious live, as is Josie Long.

However noone can tell a story like Daniel Kitson and his comedy is hilarious, I particuarly enjoy his work in progress shows in little pubs, lots of unscripted hilarity.

rockingthelook · 06/06/2019 21:32

Mike Harding, forgotten about him, saw him a couple of times years, and bought his comedy LP's , so so funny, cried laughing, as previous poster says he is known for his folk music now and compassionate political views
