Trunk found in new house!

WBWIFE · 02/06/2019 22:48

So we have found a trunk in the loft of our new house..

Its addressed to someone to a boys school that was open in the 1940-1960s.

I'm so intrigued, its bigger than the loft hatch so think we will need to cut it out of the hatch before plastering.

Ideas what to do with it? Use for decorative purposes? I've saw some turned into coffee tables! Or I may use it for toy storage, I love it!

@ WBWIFE Ah - I was just joking about opening it - there will be little in there - just amused me - but cleaned up it could make a nice coffee / side table or a toy box . If you cannot do it yourself I bet there are lots of people who renovate stuff who ould do it for you if you tell them what you want. - best wishes Basilisk

I would not be investigating the shrine though Smile

ooooh hope it's a match with who postnotinhaste has found 🥰

PostNotInHaste · 03/06/2019 17:45

No sorry, found some more info on the guy I thought it might be and I don’t think it’s him as he was at a different school. Hopefully the place WBWIFE contacted might come up with something.

Smelborp · 03/06/2019 17:47

@Frederica08 you need to start your own thread - each thread is it’s own little conversation. Go to the top where it says chat, click on that and you’ll find a link to start new conversation (or something similar).

Well this is confusing, this exact photo was posted 4 days ago in a public Facebook group called House Talk, by a lady who'd moved into a new house and found it. She also said immediately that she'd opened it and it was empty, so it's a bit strange that the OP seems to have forgotten that.....?

TinselAndKnickers · 03/06/2019 18:04

Ooooh exposed! Icedlatte do you have screenshots?

RestingBitchFaced · 03/06/2019 18:09

Sounds like the OP has been busted!

usernameuser · 03/06/2019 18:49

If you take the all the info from the thread and work through it logically using the free Genealogy resources available online then it comes up with a potential person

Ooh Miss Marple has arrived 😆

Shame as it seems the Op has been busted what a surprise

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/06/2019 18:57

They said they're not in touch with a mr b perrott but they will ask around to see what's happened to him

As we've previously established, I rather fear that we might already know....

BasiliskStare · 03/06/2019 19:06

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOn SausageRoll

Sad

But then pathologists are excellent ( sorry - been reading too many rubbish crime novels on my Kindle Grin

@WBWIFE - if you can get it downstairs with a decent top on it it would make a lovely coffee table or toy box - Ah - hope it works out well - I think this is somewhat different from safe ( as in a safe ) threads. How amusing.

Soola · 03/06/2019 19:10

So the op nicked the photo’s ?

Lol

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/06/2019 19:13

Why are people being so hard on the OP? Asking "Why did you not just take a hammer to the locks instead of posting a picture on a thread so that we could all have a lighthearted laugh about something fun and harmless?"

To be fair, OP never even proposed it as a big mystery as to what spooky delights might lurk inside - just mentioned it being there and what it could be re-purposed as.

Some troll-hunters on MN do make me despair - yes, there are some seriously horrible people out there seeking to gain emotional capital (or get their thrills) by getting people invested in a harrowing personal tale that turns out to be a complete fabrication; but why would people get so upset about something like this?

The all-time-classic Balonz thread was another one of these. Whilst most of us read it non-too-seriously as a the best laugh we'd had in ages, with people adding twists and turns which made it all the funnier, there were some amateur Columbos who didn't appreciate somebody giving us all a lighthearted session of top hilarity, who were determined to 'rumble' the OP and force a confession out of them that it was all made up and have them doing penance.

Actually, that's not really fair of me as Columbo was at least able to see the funny and absurd side of things....

fourquenelles · 03/06/2019 19:32

Anyone asked how it got in the loft in the first place if the existing loft hatch is too small to get it out? I've skim read but have missed that bit.

HeartContainer · 03/06/2019 19:42

Soola · 03/06/2019 19:46

Thread title needs to be changed to -

Trunk found in someone else’s new house! Grin

TinselAndKnickers · 03/06/2019 20:13

Whatcha gon do with all that junk, all that junk inside your trunk!

CircleofWillis · 03/06/2019 20:37

So the op nicked the photo’s ?

Or the OP opened it days ago but wanted to engender more interest on MN by having a classic locked box mystery.

nilcarborundum · 03/06/2019 20:46

I was about to ask, if there's nothing in it, why is it locked?!

WBWIFE · 03/06/2019 20:47

I posted it in House talk on Facebook and said husband said it was empty as I was out when he sent me the photo. I got back and he said well I picked it up and it felt empty, he couldnt open it because of the rust.. MN is such a weird place to be.

Why would i be fake or writing it for no reason I am so confused. I only asked for ideas of what to use it for ffs lmao

Oh no she just wanted to ask what she could use the trunk for, don'tcha know 🙄

WBWIFE · 03/06/2019 20:52

@fourquenelles the trunk is massive, it doesnt look it in the photo but its wider than the tint hatch. An average size hatch probably would be fine to get it down without a ladder..

I didnt nick the photos. The person who said was posted on house talk will know my initials are WB.. and I'm married, so WBWIFE..

OP posts:
Trumpton · 03/06/2019 20:53

@Owlish
OP will open the trunk, to find only a note with the words 'You have just lost The Game'. And so has anyone who reads this

You utter swine !

WBWIFE · 03/06/2019 20:54

And why would I want to engender more interest on MN? I pretty much only comment on the property threads on here

OP posts:
Icedlatte · 03/06/2019 21:35

@WBWIFE yes, I noticed the initials were the same, which was why I didn't post any screenshots, as I wouldn't want to out you.

On the FB thread I saw that you just said it was empty, not all that about your husband. It just seemed odd that if you knew it was empty a few days ago, you didn't know it now!

Apologies if you are legit, perhaps your posts read differently to how you meant them.

For what it's worth, I'd put it on an upstairs landing with a tray on top with a (decorative) candle and flowers.
