Trunk found in new house!

WBWIFE · 02/06/2019 22:48

So we have found a trunk in the loft of our new house..

Its addressed to someone to a boys school that was open in the 1940-1960s.

I'm so intrigued, its bigger than the loft hatch so think we will need to cut it out of the hatch before plastering.

Ideas what to do with it? Use for decorative purposes? I've saw some turned into coffee tables! Or I may use it for toy storage, I love it!

OP has said all along she thinks it is empty.

mytittifersungtheirsong · 03/06/2019 21:58

I've seen the post on House Talk and nowhere does it state that she has opened the box so no great mystery. She's just posted it in two places!

CircleofWillis · 03/06/2019 22:09

Apologies then OP 💐

For buggers sake trumpton!

I missed owlings post but saw yours because it was highlighted! Back to zero!

I have one like that. When I was young I stored teddies in it and used it as a dressing up box, now it has our bed linen in.

@Icedlatte thanks. It's a bungalow, but we hope to go up a level in a few years. I could imagine it on a landing now witha cute little window. I think once the hatch is made bugger and its dien I'll use it as a blanket storage in the lounge next to the stove we are having put in, will need to spruce it up and renew those locks and hinges though for sure!

Oh @WBWIFE - I hope you did not take any of my posts amiss - the twists and turns as @ WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll says - just amused me & guess what - having a smile ad a laugh is not bad mostly. Good work WBWIFE - A Plus Smile You have given me a smile as have some others & Thank you for that. Flowers

I think once buffed up - it will look lovely. Slightly envious of you - yes to either coffee table or under window chest or toy chest or or or ...... ( For avoidance of doubt I was not actually seriously suggesting you destroy your ceiling or take off the roof. )

So you have probably seen this but here www.pinterest.co.uk/elonawave/trunk-redo/

Sorry !

I think a coffee table would be lovely. I love old trunks that are used as furniture.

The other option is put it under a window with some cushions and use it as a seat.

@Cruelstepmother I would not be able to leave it unopened. You could be rich!! haha

Ginkypig · 04/06/2019 17:41

No worries trumpton I wasn't that bothered really!

I can put you out of your misery!!!

My father in law has been doing work on the house today and has managed to open the trunks and as I suspected, it is indeed empty!

It looked empty but you've just released an invisible demon Grin

BasiliskStare · 05/06/2019 15:59

@WBWIFE - all the better to make into a table / storage box without worrying about a long lost manuscript. Not even a conker - Perrot was a tidy boy. Smile

Ha ha - all best with your house & a lovely story - thank you

WBWIFE · 05/06/2019 17:40

Thank you!

I will make a new post in a few months when the house is done and weve gave the trunk a new use, if we dont find b perrott!
