It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

Wales.

Hit 25c according to fairies but actually closer to 28c (though I didn't go out in it).

Finally a little cooler here but still over 22c inside.

Been hotter most days here than last year according to accuweather.

ExpletiveDelighted · 15/07/2019 21:47

SE England. It has been so humid that it feels a lot warmer than than the low 20s on the thermometer.

LoafofSellotape · 15/07/2019 21:53

Where the heck do you all live

Clearly not ScotlandSmile

Warm here but pleasant, I fear it'll get very muggy as the week goes on though.

RosaWaiting · 15/07/2019 23:25

Well I’ve let the heat go to my head and shouted at someone unnecessarily today
I apologised immediately but WTAF was I thinking.

Last year I took to wearing one of those cooling scarves, perhaps I should do that again

Not blaming anyone but me for the shouting
It’s not like me at all to be short tempered.

Becca19962014 · 16/07/2019 09:45

Cooling scarves?

spiderlight · 16/07/2019 10:09

So tired. DS is in a new loft bedroom and is struggling to sleep, and keeps waking me to tell me all about it. Have shelled out an eye-watering sum for a Dyson fan for his room, which should be coming tomorrow, because our normal fans are too noisy and that's not helping. DDog is also hating it despite a haircut and had me up three times last night just to go and stand in the garden. Roll on October!

LoafofSellotape · 16/07/2019 10:59

My friend swears by those cooling scarves,I think I need to get one!

spiderlight · 16/07/2019 12:13

Just ordered one of those. My son's been taking my Migra-Cap to bed to cuddle!

Becca19962014 · 16/07/2019 13:07

I don't have a freezer unfortunately Sad

RosaWaiting · 16/07/2019 13:57

Becca, I don’t have access to a freezer at work, but they aren’t bad if you put them in the fridge instead.

I had to have something that looked vaguely okay for a boiling office but for home you could try something like this. I’ve no experience of them though.

LoafofSellotape · 16/07/2019 14:26

The ones I have looked at are ones that you just wet and shake and they instantly cool.

Becca19962014 · 16/07/2019 14:31

Ok, I'll have a look thanks.

Unbearable here today. Supposed to be raining again.

Really had enough today.

LoafofSellotape · 16/07/2019 14:46

My car said 26 on our drive and 24 once I'd started driving, that's quite hot enough for me!! Gone a bit cloudy now.

RosaWaiting · 16/07/2019 15:14

next week looking grim for Londoners. Sad

missmouse101 · 16/07/2019 15:30

Wales here too and day after day it has been extremely hot. Spend all my time hiding from the heat and glare as best as I can whilst working. A little cloud has come along in the last hour or so which has made it feel much better! So looking forward to it being 10-15 degrees...the perfect temperature.

Becca19962014 · 16/07/2019 15:58

Two weeks looks horrendous here.

Mind it's horrendous now.

22c! Hahahahahahahahahaha

No fucking chance.

It's 24c inside! And that feels cooler than outside!

When I see temps like 27c predicted I begin to hyperventilate given how hot it's been.

Looking at the history in accuweather it's actually been hotter here with the exception of Saturday compared to last July. So the person complaining at me about it being sooo much cooler today than last year was talking utter shit then!

Becca19962014 · 16/07/2019 15:59

And zero sign of rain as well.

RaspberryRippleCrisps · 16/07/2019 17:31

What I don't understand is why it is ALWAYS several degrees hotter than the predicted temperature? E.g. forecast says a high of 24 degrees, but thermometer says 27 degrees.

RosaWaiting · 16/07/2019 18:03

Raspberry I don't get it either.

I think yesterday was meant to be 21 or something? Absolutely no way was it 21. 26, maybe? Which is what they are saying it is today?

DappledThings · 16/07/2019 18:12

Is it not just the difference between shade and sun? Forecast temps are always in shade so it does nearly always feel hotter than that if you have to be out in the sun. And buildings will heat up and retain heat over the day so come out higher too.

RaspberryRippleCrisps · 16/07/2019 18:33

Rosa Yes,yesterday it was predicted to be 24 where I live, but the thermometer (outdoors and in a shaded area) was saying 28!

Becca19962014 · 17/07/2019 13:35

It's a bit better today. Not massively. Still over 20c regardless of what fairies say. No breeze at all, or sun. Just feels like walking through treacle. Couldn't sleep last night, nightmares and far too hot. So today I've been a totally grumpy shit.

I went out stupidly expecting my "18c, with feelslike 17c" and it just wasn't. At all. Not my morning at all!

Seriously what's wrong with the British weather? Sort yourself out! Another day hotter than last year.

Fairies predicting over 50% chance of rain...

spiderlight · 17/07/2019 13:38

Our Dyson fan has arrived. You can thank me when the temperature plummets and stays below 10 degrees for the next five years!

spiderlight · 17/07/2019 13:56

For anyone looking at those cooling scarves, the actual cooling thing inside them is tiechilly.co.uk/products/pack-of-6-cooling-strips these - a six-pack is £7.99 and if you're not fussed about the appearance of the scarf you can put them inside an old school tie or something!
