Does anyone else sing made up songs to their dog? (Or any pet for that matter)

I will do this often. I will make a fuss of my dog and sing him a little song, usually with his name in but not always. I did it with the dog we had before him and used to do it to my cats as well.

I don't know if anyone else does is, but then Ive never admitted it publicly either. Ive often thought that if there were secret camera recording me in my home people would think I was bonkers..

LaurieFairyCake · 01/06/2019 18:07

I sing "Who's the bestest dog" almost constantly to mine

She looks at me witheringly Grin

minou123 · 01/06/2019 18:07

Um, yes Blush

But not a made up song. I sing "your my little chu-chi face" from chitty chitty bang bang, to my cats.

They dont like it Hmm

CheddarandCrackers · 01/06/2019 18:27

I used to sing to my cats, don't think they appreciated my songs but they were a captive audience tbh. Cuddle, sing to them and a kiss on their head and they would then happily jump down. Grin

So glad it's not just me!

'I love you, yes I do, cos I spend all my money on you' or 'Ruby, Ruby, Ruby' (but with cats name ) are the favourites

Nanasueathome · 01/06/2019 19:08

I sing to my dog
ALouetta, but with her name
She howls along with me

Gatekeeper · 01/06/2019 19:09

I sing to my cat- to the tune of Teacher's Pet

'Fluffy fur
Sherlock's got Fluffy fur
ooh ooh ooh ooh fluffy Fur
yeah ooweeoo Fluffy fur'

etc etc
He goes all daft and soppy

Gatekeeper · 01/06/2019 19:09

...or possibly cringing

Figure8 · 01/06/2019 19:12

Well, of course!

Duster12 · 01/06/2019 19:12

I do this to my rodent. Sometimes he likes it, sometimes he runs back into his cage.

toldmywrath · 01/06/2019 19:12

To the tune of Midnight Oil's "Beds are burning"
How can you sleep when your (cat's)not purring.
Also we had a disabled cat once and I used to sing " cat fought the floor and the floor won"

I would say their cat names, but don't want to out myself.

Grin
HeronLanyon · 01/06/2019 19:13

Yes of course !
Things like ‘babby babby babby boy you’re my little bundle of joy’ or little lovely little joy, you’re my lovely lovely boy’ etc etc ad nausea. Or ‘Harry Harry Harry boy you’re my lovely you’re my joy’ - can you see a theme? Usually when rubbing tummies etc. Currently don’t live with any animals (RIP lovely boys). Miss them. Singing a chief joy and they always loved it.

keepondreaming · 01/06/2019 19:14

Alll the time Blush

Kernobhead · 01/06/2019 19:15

‘Hairy hairy dog’ to the tune of ‘starry starry night’...

BlessYourCottonSocks · 01/06/2019 19:16

Yep. I sing to the dog all the time. Things like

'Do you want your tea? Ooohh....how much do you want it? Yum yum, Pedigree Chum...does it taste like crap?'

In return he looks at me witheringly and says, 'I am not an animal...'
a bit like The Elephant Man.

hugoagogo · 01/06/2019 19:16

If you don't sing to the cat, you are some sort of weirdo. Grin

user1471453601 · 01/06/2019 19:17

I sing The Lions Song to Dear Dog.

She likes the opening "Be good, be good, be good is her name". Then she gets a bit bored and wanders off. Still, she's the only animal that seems to appreciate my singing

ScreamingValenta · 01/06/2019 19:18

I sing 'How much is that pussy in the window?' to the cats.

mimibunz · 01/06/2019 19:19

His name was Bunny
He was a show cat
With yellow feathers in his fur
And his fur cut down to there....

TSSDNCOP 😁😁

Ridingthegravytrain · 01/06/2019 19:20

I do, to the tune of little boxes from the tv series ‘weeds’
I sing to them when they are sleepy and now I’m able to make them sleepy by singing it to them. I wanted to do it so I have a song to relax them at the vets!

Ohrobin · 01/06/2019 19:21
