Does anyone else sing made up songs to their dog? (Or any pet for that matter)

I will do this often. I will make a fuss of my dog and sing him a little song, usually with his name in but not always. I did it with the dog we had before him and used to do it to my cats as well.

I don't know if anyone else does is, but then Ive never admitted it publicly either. Ive often thought that if there were secret camera recording me in my home people would think I was bonkers..

I've just remembered, my dog went through a phase of following my late cat, let's call him Freddie, around with his nose up his bum, so I used to sing: 'He's a dedicated follower of Freddie' with lyrics appropriate to where he was following him, e.g 'he seeks him here, he seeks him there, from by the fridge, to near the chair ...'

Ah mimi I see you too are influenced by the great Manilow. So versatile.

Oh [insert outing name if cat]
You came and you stand there a-purring
So I fill up your bowl
Oh etc

'Her name was fluffy
She was a show girl.
She wore feathers in her hair
and her nose was always there'

To our curious and bird hunting cat.

BestIsWest · 01/06/2019 19:52

scratchyfluffyface

I also sing ‘Ilove you, yes I do, Cos I spend all my money on you’ to the dogs.
I used to sing it to DS when he was little. When he grew up and started listing to ska bands he was horrified that I’d been comparing him to a bottle of beer. (Though I don’t believe it’s really about beer)

I sing to my dog a lot. Made up songs and songs with names that I change to hers. I only do it if no one else is around because I am a terrible singer. She appears to be very appreciative, though.

TooStressyTooMessy · 01/06/2019 19:59

Our cat has her own special song Grin.

missyB1 · 01/06/2019 20:03

Yes my schnauzer is called Pippa. I sing

“She’s a pip she’s a pip she’s a pippity pip, she’s a pip pip pip, pip pip!”
It’s to the tune of the Top Cat cartoon.

SenecaFalls · 01/06/2019 20:03

I think her favorite is when I sing "she's the baddest dog in the whole damn town."

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 01/06/2019 20:04

Me and DH do this so much.
"Spider cat, spider cat, does whatever a spider cat does. Not much! There goes the spider cat"
"I love you Betsy and if it's quite alright I'll love you Betsy for the rest of your life oh pretty pretty Betsy."
"Rockaby Betsy on the wardrobe"
The list really goes on.

MrsWicket · 01/06/2019 20:14

Oh yes. To our rather large ginger cat:
‘We love you ginger, we do,’
‘We love you ginger, we do,’
‘Ginger-mogkin we love yoooouuuuu’
(sung very badly) Grin

groundcontroltomontydon · 01/06/2019 20:37

What, like 'Born to Ear Jive' (with actions), 'Brown Eyed Girl' and the (self-penned) 'Chunky Chicken Song'? Nope, not me.

Bezalelle · 01/06/2019 20:41

I have a "confidence building" song that I sing to DCat, extolling his virtues over the other cats in the neighbourhood.

BreconBeBuggered · 01/06/2019 20:49

How long has EastEnders been on? I've been singing that to various dogs for years, incorporating names and personalities as appropriate. The present DoggyBeBuggered is very musical and appreciates being brought into all kinds of songs.

Jasmin82 · 01/06/2019 20:51

Resident collie sometimes wishes I'd stop singing to her!
Although she does seem to like me singing some songs to her.
Her favourite song for me to sing to her is a French song called "666" Hmm
She also randomly participates with "We will rock you" in her own way (instead of clapping, she does a quiet woof).

minou123 · 01/06/2019 21:03

Bezalelle - that's brilliant; confidence building song Grin

Can you share the song? (Just asking for a friend Hmm)

darkriver19886 · 01/06/2019 21:06

I sing song "Pepper Wepper!" She looks at me like I have lost the plot. She is ten year old cat.

Escapedgoats · 01/06/2019 21:13

"I think I'm turning dog-anese, I think I'm turning dog-anese I really think so!".😊

Apolloanddaphne · 01/06/2019 21:19

I sing Sadie Sadie Sadie Sadie woo-oo-oo-oo-oo to the tune of Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs.

Also I see you Sadie, shaking your ass, shaking your ass.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/06/2019 21:32

I hear you Fester, squeaking that ass....

I sing all sorts of shit all the time. Having a puppy just gives me another outlet for it

Ground control to Fester Dog, commencing walkies, harness on. Here we are driving in a tin can, off to walk the woods, well do a mile or two and you can wee and poo.... da da da da da, ching ching...

The list is nigh on endless

longsigh · 01/06/2019 21:38

All the time..
You’re so cute I want to wear u like a suit
You’re so nice but u eat furry mice!!
😂

Kimchinoodles · 01/06/2019 21:43

I sing and dance in front of my sheep, they look at me like I'm crazy!

Stompythedinosaur · 01/06/2019 21:46

Surely singing to you dog is normal?

Everybody who's a dog, come put your paws up...

RobinHumphries · 01/06/2019 22:04

Soft bunny, warm bunny
Little ball of fur
Happy bunny, sleepy bunny
Hop hop hop

She’s small, she’s round, she hops along the ground, it’s berry bunny it’s Berry bunny
She’s great, she’s grey, she munches all the hay it’s misty bunny it’s misty bunny

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 01/06/2019 22:14

This is a song I sing to my horse 😳

See here's a red apple for Laurel boy
He eats them to make him grow strong
With green grass all day, and carrots and hay
We're singing our harvest song.

Yeah- I know... 🤔🐴
