Does anyone else sing made up songs to their dog? (Or any pet for that matter)

I will do this often. I will make a fuss of my dog and sing him a little song, usually with his name in but not always. I did it with the dog we had before him and used to do it to my cats as well.

I don't know if anyone else does is, but then Ive never admitted it publicly either. Ive often thought that if there were secret camera recording me in my home people would think I was bonkers..

Smack My Bitch Up when we're play-fighting Blush

"Dog's name,
You're fancy,
You're covered in fur
And you smell like a squirrel"
(To no particular tune. Also have a differently worded version for DS Grin )

Fabulous thread - so much bonkers love for our pets!

pisspawpatrol · 01/06/2019 22:15

Yep, one about her being a cat with four legs and a teeny tiny tail.

She doesn't appreciate it.

elQuintoConyo · 01/06/2019 22:15

Kimchinoodles I think I love you Grin

This is the best thread Grin.

Constantly. Always with his name in them. I was recently blasting out a rousing rendition of 'Eddington Teddington packed his trunk and said goodbye to the circus' when I looked up and there was our new window-cleaner standing at the kitchen window staring at me Blush.

@Apolloanddaphne I sing 'Eddie Eddie Eddie Eddie' to that song :)

Our old dog's anthem was 'Archie Archie, Archie Archie, Archie Archie Wiggle-bum (Wiggle-BUM), AAAAAAAAARCHIE Archie Wiggle-bum' to the tune of 'Bread of Heaven'.

WickedGoodDoge · 01/06/2019 22:33

No, but I have a little diesel ditty that I sing when filling my car to make sure I don’t accidentally put petrol in. Blush

BestIsWest · 01/06/2019 22:45

I am so stealing some of these especially Ground control to Fester dog, commencing countdown , Harness on

He will think I am a genius. So will DH.

ALemonyPea · 01/06/2019 22:48

DH sings to one of our cats about him being the most handsome sat in the world, but doesn't do it within earshot of the other cat as doesn't want to upset him because, according to DH, he isn't as handsome.

JuneFromBethesda · 01/06/2019 22:49

Like spiderlight I sing my dog’s name a lot, in fact often it’s just her name sung over and over again to whatever tune happens to be in my head. My daughter was playing ‘In the Mood’ on the piano earlier so I was singing that with the dog’s name substituted for the lyrics. She must get sick of hearing her name frankly Blush

Conks · 01/06/2019 22:50

Yes!!! I honestly thought it was just me. I sometimes dance as well

OhMsBeliever · 01/06/2019 22:53

I sing songs to everyone in my house. Kids, pets, my ex when he wasn't my ex.

My kids are not impressed that I still sing them lovely songs about what cute babies they are with tiny toes etc as they're now teenagers and bigger than me. I'll never stop though. Forget speeches on their wedding day, I'll sing their own personal songs! Grin

The cats just look at me with their usual disgusted impression. Hmm < cat face.

My dog had a lovely song, I miss him and singing his song. Sad

patientzero · 01/06/2019 22:53

All the time!

Some of these are genius. Mine just involve using the dog’s full name and calling him my baby Blush

IjustbelieveinMe · 01/06/2019 22:55

I sing to my dog to the tune of Rupert the bear:
Eddddie, Eddie the dog
everyone knows your nammmme.
Edddddie, Eddie the dog
everyone knows your nammme.
Because you are a sausage.

He loves it!

BirdandSparrow · 01/06/2019 22:57

When I go out I sometimes sing "Don't cry for me, my doglita, I'll be back before you know it" to the Don't cry for me Argentina tune. 🤔

RavenTitan · 01/06/2019 23:03

Yep. Grin Always have sung to my cats, always songs about how great they are.

If I'm out the shower in the morning and they're upstairs they get a little dance too. Blush

Ohnotanothernamechange · 01/06/2019 23:09

I've got one that I sing when my dog rolls over for a belly rub.

It goes:

Belly Rub, Belly Rub.
Belly Belly Belly Belly Rub

It's just a tune I made up though Blush

I sing real songs to him and he joins in sometimes, he has an amazing howl. He wags his tail whenever I start singing

robynadair · 01/06/2019 23:23

All the time. Most common ones are:-

The minute you walked into the house,
I could see you were a dog of distinction,
A real big wagger,
Good looking, so refined,
Say wouldn't you like to have a piece of bacon rind,
So let me get right to the point,
I don't give treats to every dog I see,
Hey big wagger,
Give a little wag to me

To the tune of 'if I were a rich man' from Fiddler on the Roof, ' if I were a doggy, doggy doggy doggy doggy doggy dog'

I also sing or chant 'Who let the dogs out, woof, woof, woof, woof' when letting them out and then imaginatively change it to who let the dogs in when they come in from the garden

Also 'I see you doggy, shaking that ass, shaking that ass'

HelmutFrontbut · 01/06/2019 23:27

I used to sing George Ezras 'Pretty Smiley People' to my cat. She was the most miserable fucker ever but she loved it when I sang 'Hey pretty shiny Alfi' to her Grin

Ohnotanothernamechange · 01/06/2019 23:28

Ooh I love the fiddler on the roof one!

That reminds me that I used to sing a song to my cats that was basically miaows to the tune of Spandau Ballets True.

DavenotChas · 01/06/2019 23:29

Lots! I can find a song for everything-Current favourites are: Ice, Ice Davey (complete with shite rap) and Oooh Davey Davey, Da Davey Davey

These change throughout the year depending on my mood. Dave is contemptuous whatever the season.

Zigzagpolar · 01/06/2019 23:33

I sing to my chickens
🎶 you are the chicky girls
You are the chicky girls
You are the chicky girls
Touch my eggs- don’t be shy 🎶 ( to tune if we are the cheeky girls)
Or
🎶all the fluffy ladies put your wings up, put your wing up
Up in the coop, down the garden doing your own fine thing
Decide to peck, now your gonna peck been pecking the whole damn time...🎶 ( to single ladies)
They like it.

WendelFong · 01/06/2019 23:33

I sing 'Happy Grunt' to the tune of 'Happy Talk' to my dog, because she grunts when she's enjoying a cuddle.

Pinkarsedfly · 01/06/2019 23:36

My DH does this and it’s adorable.

When it’s time for them to go to bed, he sings ‘Come along, little dawgies, come along’ like a cowboy herding cattle.

They can be fast asleep, and as soon as they hear him their heads snap up and they leap off the couch/chair/up from the floor and run to the kitchen for their biscuit and bed.

It’s so damn cute!

Mumsymumphy · 01/06/2019 23:42

I sing 'Pussy cat, pussy cat, I love you, yes I doooo'

I also talk to my cats using the 'voice' I think they would have if they could talk, IYSWIM! So to DCat 1 I talk in a soft-tone Cockney accent (I have no idea why I use a Cockney accent, we're up north) and to DCat 2 I use a 'cheeky' voice as she is more feisty. I also reply to myself on their behalf, my kids do too.

Are we batshit or does everyone do this?
