Does anyone else sing made up songs to their dog? (Or any pet for that matter)

I will do this often. I will make a fuss of my dog and sing him a little song, usually with his name in but not always. I did it with the dog we had before him and used to do it to my cats as well.

I don't know if anyone else does is, but then Ive never admitted it publicly either. Ive often thought that if there were secret camera recording me in my home people would think I was bonkers..

Ha ha, yes, all the time!
Also, I used to sing You Are My Sunshine to my best friend's dog all the time...never usually got to the third line before being showered with kisses! Don't know whether that meant she liked it or she was just trying to get me to shut up I'm not the best singer Grin Awww... I miss her Sad Can't bring myself to sing it to my dog...feels like it was 'hers'...

Another one I do is 'Heyyyyyyy, Hey doggy! Ooh ahh!' To the tune of Hey Baby..

I'm so glad I'm not alone Blush

As an avid fan watcher of RuPaul's Drag Race, I've adapted the closing song of this show to include my Kittie's names:
BlushBlushBlush
I do this to my dog but with 'cover girl'

'Cover dog, put that tail in your walk,
Head to paws,
Let your whole ass hole talk'

No idea where the ass hole bit came from, think it's only registered now how weird that is.....

Also a lot of made up songs, but usually about him being a twat

When trying to put puppy in her harness while she wriggles and tries to bite:

Put your right leg in,
Don’t take your right leg out,
In in in IN
DON’T shake it all about

Aww, my dog loved being sung to, always made up songs, always about what a ferocious beast he was. I miss him so much.

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 02/06/2019 14:19

I sing a version of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt theme tune to CanoeDog.

Unbreakable!
You're a dog dammit
It's a miracle!
Spaniels are strong as hell!

He's not particularly impressed by it.

In the house, the messy house
The Maxi sleeps today
In the house, the messy house
Maxi never go away.

Miaow ow ow he's snoring away 😄

To the tune of In the Jungle, plus whatever is on the radio gets his name in it. Blatantly going to steal the toe beans/ Jolene song though! X

We used to have a lovely border collie called Lucy, and sometimes we'd call her Luby or Luby lu as a nickname.

Sometime after that Kaiser Chiefs 'Ruby' song came out we used to sing it to her like this when asking her if she wanted to go outside.

"Luby luby luby luby! Ah ah ah ah ah ahhhhh....Do ya do ya want a wee wee?"

It sounds so daft now thinking back but always think of her when that song comes on Grin Almost 9 years now since she died.

ALongHardWinter · 02/06/2019 17:30

Of course. Don't all pet owners? Grin I sing along to my favourite songs and replace key words with 'cat' or her name. For example:-

Don't believe a cat,
For cats can tell lies,
And cats are no comfort,
When there's tears in your eyes.

And:-
Looked out this morning,
Don't believe what I saw,
A hundred billion cats washed up on the shore.

Sewrainbow · 02/06/2019 19:13

Yep I make up songs to my cat, like the ones I used to make up for children but now they tell me to be quiet. Usually to nursery rhyme tunes.

Pussy cat where have you been? And this old man and baba black sheep mostly

Ronsters · 02/06/2019 19:46

My cat's name is Ron, so I sing Da Do Ron Ron to him.
He was also very timid when I first got him, so I sing Bananarama's Shy Boy to him.
