WTF? It’s 7.40pm and a teacher has just randomly turned up at my house

To give me new starter forms for DD who is starting reception in September Hmm

I already have a DD at the school so if they’re trying to save on postage she could have given them to her.

It’s a bit weird no?

Plus she caught me just out of the bath, tatty PJs and mascara streaming down my face because it’s fucking waterproof and didn’t come off in the bath Blush

I can see putting them through the letterbox if she was passing but why knock on the door? Weird.

It was WEIRD

She knocked and asked if this was x house, I said yes, she said do you have a little girl starting in Sept, I said er why? and she said I’ve got some forms for you and thrust an envelope at me.

I agree with pp - sounds like they are checking up on your address to make sure you actually live there. Good news is if she saw you just out of the bath there can be no doubt you do :)

If they wanted to check she lived their they would just check the council tax register wouldn't they?

Being on the council tax register for a property doesn't mean you live there - if you have moved out and the property is empty but you still own it then they will have your name on the register as you are liable for some of the council tax still (unless there are no beds - though that might have changed).

Checking you live there I reckon. We had to show three months utility bills - I guess to stop people renting an additional property in the catchment.

Council tax register doesn't mean much in areas with highly rated, very oversubscribed schools. People do all sorts to get school places.

But a teacher dropping by at 7.40pm isn't on.

I'd be tempted just to "drop by" her class at the end of school on Friday just to return forms catch her on the hop Grin

Could be to check you live there if it's over subscribed but 7.40pm is an odd time to do it, and if you already have a child there your DD would get sibling priority anyway and they'd know you lived there.

Was she definitely a teacher? or had the school possibly meant to send them home with your older DD but they'd accidentally ended up with the wrong child and they were just delivering them to you?

I struggled to even show a recent CT bill (we get one a year now!!)

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 in really over subscribed catchment area people can do spot checks to make sure you haven't just rented a home (and registered for council tax) in the catchment area but your real residence is somewhere else. Happened to someone I vaguely know.

Teachers don't check your address though, that's the council's job.

I reckon she just lives on your street and said she'd drop them in on her way home.

You often only get sibling priority if you have stayed within "X" distance. I know a family with a four year age gap who had moved out and rented and lived in an additional property for six months when second child was starting school.

I really can't see a teacher being that invested in doing someone else's job of checking up to see where you live. I just can't.
It was on her way home. Perhaps she lives locally.

Ours were hand delivered but put through the letter box. Knocking is weird!
Address check doesn’t make sense as it would be the LEA who check up, not the school staff.

She knocked on the door at 7.40pm. That's hardly late.

She's doing a good job. If the school was oversubscribed and you had to drive your daughter five miles to the next school you'd have something to complain about!

When ds2 started primary, we had a visit from the teacher to "see him in his home environment and see if he's excited for school/get used to it."
Totally normal, everyone got a visit. I think it's something to do with checking you really live there.
Must have been a fairly new rule as it wasn't a thing when ds1 started a few years earlier.
