Neighbour planted 3 new bushes/trees in my garden!

Came home to find 3 newly planted trees in what is quite clearly my garden as it is my side of the fence!
Am I in my right to pull them out? I don't really want them where they are. Beside the fact that they could've at least asked for permission!!!

If I were the OP I’d do as previous posters suggested and have the garden make good at his expense. I’d also be having serious words with the neighbours and if I wasn’t happy with their response I’d be sending them a legal letter reminding them of my rights re: my garden!

Stuff “neighbourly relations” they’ve gone way too far IMO.

I had to get the police involved due to my NFNs antics. They now completely ignore us and it’s bliss. I’m not willing to be a doormat to anyone never mind blatant CFs.

rupple · 04/05/2019 17:57

A neighbour who thinks they're entitled to plant shrubs in your garden is not a neighbour you're ever going to get along with, so don't waste your time being conciliatory OP. It's war.

manicmij · 04/05/2019 18:00

Been busy, just catching up. Are you sure these are trees? They look like climbing plants to me. However I would check with neighbour, if they admit their doing, then inform you are not happy about them (a) entering your garden (b) tell them they should not have planted anything and (c) you will pull the things out and put them over the fence into their garden when it is convenient for you to do so.

You don’t have a good relationship with your neighbours. It’s too late to keep it friendly. They have utterly disrespected your property and your relationship with your Gardner.

They want screening between your gardens and they would like it to take up space in your garden and be your responsibility to prune and maintain. Outrageous.

Have your gardener remove them and make good. He can do it at his expense, or perhaps ask them to pay for it.

Does your property lie North, East, South or West of them?

GreyGardens88 · 04/05/2019 18:16

This doesn't make any sense

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/05/2019 18:16

We had pyracantha in our garden - it really is vicious.

OP - burying the neighbour seems like an entirely proportionate response!

ilikemethewayiam · 04/05/2019 18:25

I understand you don’t like confrontation OP but you really can let this stand. I’m the same. I don’t like confrontation and avoid where I can but this would incense me! for my own dignity and integrity I could not let this go. I would play the ‘silly old Gardner has put your plants on the wrong side of the fence’ card first and see what they say. If they own up to it and try to justify it then be very straight with them and say You want them removed within the next 48 hrs. If they don’t then you need to put it in writing that you will have them removed and send them the bill followed by small claims court if they don’t pay! Hopefully it won’t come to that but if you don’t put a stop to this now you will be utterly humiliated!

Bignosenobum · 04/05/2019 18:28

Am sorry go round and speak them preferably with a big bloke. say it is trespass and that if there is a neighbour dispute they wont be able to sell their house. Find out why they would infringe your property. If it continues ring the police. stand up to them.

INeedAFlerken · 04/05/2019 18:29

I'd have the gardener remove them as well.

And tell your neighbours if they are truly that bothered about the hedge or the trellis, then there is nothing stopping them putting up a fence or hedge plants on their own property.

EleanorReally · 04/05/2019 18:33

i hope op is ok, not been prickled too much by the plant

Wauden · 04/05/2019 18:42

I love my pyracantha! I would keep them as they have beautiful red and orange berries which last a long time and the birds love them. Pruning is done wearing gardening gloves, and carefully cutting. Its quite easy.
Although they have been planted quite closely together.

VampireSlayer19 · 04/05/2019 18:56

Did you get them taken out?

floraloctopus · 04/05/2019 19:07

Maybe they are branching out and doing random acts of kindness.

Oldraver · 04/05/2019 19:08

Ive just seen the photos...what the fuck did the gardner think he was doing ? What did he say on the matter ?

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 04/05/2019 19:13

I really don't understand why the gardener would agree to do that Confused

cuppycakey · 04/05/2019 19:13

I cannot believe anyone would take this lying down. I would have had the gardener come and remove them immediately and just throw them on NDN lawn (and bill it to NDN)

The gardener sounds as deranged as the rest of you!! Are you sure you aren't living in a 1970s sitcom OP?

TigerTooth · 04/05/2019 19:29

Don’t return them to neighbour - either dig them up and have them on the other side - where you want them - or take them to the dump!
I understand totally that they are upset at their view being of you and your home instead of greenery - my neighbour did this to me recently cutting down mature trees so we have no privacy - solution - I’ve put up trellis and climbers plus 3 new trees - ON MY SIDE!

Catsinthecupboard · 04/05/2019 19:50

I planted pear trees and they are huge/tall and give fruit.

Under no circumstances us ANYONE allowed to plant in MY garden. It's MINE!!

HOWEVER, there are many trellis options which only require shallow roots. Grapes, willows, climbing roses. All available to your neighbor. Tall evergreens that are soft and spongy and beautiful all year.

I'm sorry about your hand. Flowers

MissMoan · 04/05/2019 20:04

Could you ask the gardener to replant somewhere in their garden, and make it clear that they should only follow your requests in future when it comes to your garden.

HerculePoirotsGreyCells · 04/05/2019 20:13

This is utterly ridiculous.

The gardener would be gone, Why have they planted thorny trees in your garden without your consent and on the instructions of your neighbours?

You hate conflict, but if this isn't resolved then conflict is what you're going to get time and time again with them because they know they can get away with it. You don't have to go in all guns blazing but ask why they felt they had to instruct the gardener to plant trees your side. The trellis reason isn't good enough. It is your garden, not theirs.

FiremanKing · 04/05/2019 20:39

Tit for tat. Tell the gardener to dig a trench around next doors house as they want a moat.

Wait until the neighbours are on holiday though.

GeeksCanBeMumsToo · 04/05/2019 20:44

I’d call the gardener for his side of the story first. Assuming the neighbour said you’d approved, as him to remove them and return them to their owners and also get them to pay for his time. Also as him to recommend something for them to plant ON THEIR SIDE OF THE BLOOY FENCE that will work around the root (ie. ivy or something in a pot). Total CF, but I get not wanting to confront them. Make the gardener deal with them as he’s the one that planted without checking with you first. People are so entitled sometimes! Confused

MummaMooMoo · 04/05/2019 20:48

This is unbelievable, hilarious CFery.

Need the update!

Also, a nice invasive honeysuckle planted your side but trained on to theirs for great cover, lovely fragranced flowers and simultaneous aggressive strangling and killing of everything they're growing, could be the ultimate solution here! Grin

Ruru8thestars · 04/05/2019 21:15

God that’s cheeky

bumble270 · 04/05/2019 21:30

Please come back and update! What absolute CF! What's wrong with them doing something on their side?!
