Neighbour planted 3 new bushes/trees in my garden!

Came home to find 3 newly planted trees in what is quite clearly my garden as it is my side of the fence!
Am I in my right to pull them out? I don't really want them where they are. Beside the fact that they could've at least asked for permission!!!

Do they have friends that own a holiday home in Mexico perchance?

peridito · 03/05/2019 11:53

@IAmNOTBent aah thank you for that !

No idea how I missed it ...

TheTreeHearsYourSecret · 03/05/2019 11:57

The photos didn't come up for me originally but I reloaded the page.

Why don't they have something on their side if they don't like seeing through the trellis? Surely this is what you have a gardener for?

I removed 4 pyracantha from my own garden as I had young children, they are vicious. It is definitely a fuck you gesture on your neighbour's behalf, otherwise they would have planted something pretty and less prickly.

Apparently there is a large root on their side of the trellis which would make it hard for planting.

Tough. Not your problem.

Definitely instruct the gardener - if you still want to retain him - that he only takes instruction from you regarding your garden.

TixieLix · 03/05/2019 12:08

Aside from the fact the gardener was out of order planting on your side, I'm surprised they thought it was a good idea planting hedge shrubs in front of a load of messy ivy. The ivy could take over the shrubs and strangle them.

PrincessTiggerlily · 03/05/2019 12:10

Rule of life - always get on with your neighbours.
Not sure if its the first, second or tenth rule but I wouldn't fall out with someone who can have such a BIG impact on your daily goings on.

MrsMozartMkII · 03/05/2019 12:12

Get rid of them (plants, not bumping off the neighbours no matter how tempting...).

Next they'll be using your drive / patio / greenhouse!

Nesssie · 03/05/2019 12:18

I'd be tempted to move them to another part of the garden that doesn't benefit them at all. So you get free trees and they get nothing.

I don;t mind confrontation so I would go round there but if you don't want to just pull them out and leave them out the front. They can hardly come round and ask why you dug up plants they put in your garden!

motheroffourcats · 03/05/2019 12:20

I'd get my thick gloves on or maybe get an old bath towel, then grab the plants, rip the out of my soil/my garden and throw them over the fence into NDN's garden.

I would not accept this.

flumpybear · 03/05/2019 12:23

You need to toughen up cupcake - they're taking the piss, and they're dismissing you and your property - personally I'd dig them up and hand deliver them back and tell them to keep out of your garden g business- is they want a plant to disguise the trellis the they need to work it out from their side of a way that works for their own garden - cheeky fuck-wits!!

OnlyRealButterWillDo · 03/05/2019 14:05

@calistaraines so any update?

MadSweeney · 03/05/2019 14:06

Slightly off on a tangent.....
I have a fence that can be climbed and am frequently turfing a couple of local kids out of the end of my garden. Would a nice pyrocantha on the other side put a stop to this you think?

LeNil · 03/05/2019 14:17

@MadSweeney - definitely

florentina1 · 03/05/2019 14:20

@Bookworm4 no I did not, they were the ugliest things you ever did see. 8 large globes and 2 solar things.
I did tell her she was cheeky, but in a nice way. She was a good neighbour really. I told her that I put them in the garage as DH was going to rearrange them along the fence. That just never happened and when she asked me about them, I said my son had borrowed them. It was a stupid thing to say really as I lived as I thought she might buy me new ones,

florentina1 · 03/05/2019 14:24

@Madsweeny pyracantha or Cockburnianus. Not a joke it really is a plant. A bramble with vicious thorns but beautiful white stems I. Winter

Neighbour planted 3 new bushes/trees in my garden!
MadSweeney · 03/05/2019 14:28

@FiremanKing had considered that, but it will look pretty awful on the fence unfortunately, it's on my list though!

@florentina1 ooh that's quite pretty. I think I shall take DH to the garden centre tomorrow.

peridito · 03/05/2019 14:39

ooh florentina how striking ,so many beautiful plants in the world .

florentina1 · 03/05/2019 15:06

Just a word of warning. It is really thuggish and sends out runners. It is best used as a deterrent or in a large bed. If you are going to prune it back to the ground each year you will need the heaviest garden gloves and thick jacket.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 03/05/2019 15:21

I have the thorniest of all thorny plants by the garden wall, but no idea what it is.

Even my gardener didn't recognise it, but it's vicious. And we cannot get rid of it, after years of trying.

It has elongated silvery lives and it flowers in yellow.

simonisnotme · 03/05/2019 15:22

I cant understand why your gardener would think it ok to plant things in your garden without checking with you first
he needs a bollocking or sacking

MadSweeney · 03/05/2019 15:23

@ChardonnaysPrettySister try and app called Plant Snap. I find it invaluable for trying to figure out 'what the hell is that' 😂

LilBoaty · 03/05/2019 15:23

I love my pyracantha plants. I know they are prickly but it's not difficult to avoid getting pricked. 🤷🏻‍♀️. I prune mine hard using long clippers and pop the cuttings straight in our garden wheelie . They aren't hard to keep to keep under control.
I'll admit that I don't like any other prickly plants in my garden but pyracantha get a free pass as they are lovely - the birds
Love them and you get two lots of long lasting colour with them - the berries and the flowers.

Clutterbugsmum · 03/05/2019 16:15

There is nothing wrong with pyracantha plants, but you do not plant them at the front of the bed.

But that's neither here or there if the neighbour has a problem with the fence not being private enough then they can plant anything they like in their own garden.

If you keep the pyracantha plants then get the gardener to plant then next to the fence. And then when your neighbour complains about them growing through into their garden remind then that they were the ones that planted them.

Clutterbugsmum · 03/05/2019 16:16

ChardonnaysPrettySister

take a photo and post it in gardening/plant section on here and I bet someone will be able to tell you what it is.
