The Only Thing by Sufjan Stevens.
It’s too beautiful for words.

Theme tune to the littlest hobo. Takes me back to being 8 and getting upset when runs away at the end of every episode. “Why can’t he stay and be happy, mummy?” Waaaah! Grin

This is How It Feels - Inspiral Carpets.

Used to cry my eyes out to that when I was married.

"This is how it feels to be lonely, this is how it feels to be small, this is how it feels when your word means nothing at all"

MaudeLynne · 01/05/2019 23:31

Days of our lives by Queen for obvious reasons.

Also the Abba Slipping through my fingers.

WishITookLifeSeriously · 01/05/2019 23:31

Piece by Piece when Kelly Clarkson sings it live on American Idol
Streets of London
Dance with my Father by Luther Vandross
Fly by Celine Dion
Someone like you when Adele sang it live at the Brits
Bring him home from Les Miserables sand by Colm Wilkinson

Danny Boy.
It reminds me of when my nephew was born, very soon after my mum died. That’s his name.

StillMedusa · 01/05/2019 23:33

The Weakness in Me by Joan Armatrading.
'For your Babies' Simply Red... I gave birth to my first child as that played and it makes me tear up 27 years later!

Slipping through my fingers.. I had to warn said daughter NOT to play than any time near her wedding Grin

Aimily · 01/05/2019 23:35

When you love someone - James TW
Goodbye - Spice Girls
Second chance - Shinedown

I had all 3 of these songs play consecutively on my playlist at the weekend, I cried while singing along 🙄 my reason is I'm hormonal.

WishITookLifeSeriously · 01/05/2019 23:41

Ooh and Bridge over troubled water gets me every time too

GooodMythicalMorning · 01/05/2019 23:41

James Blunt, goodbye my lover

deadsexy · 01/05/2019 23:48

Sinead - nothing compares to you

I know it's cheesy and mainstream but always gets me

gaelicgirl · 01/05/2019 23:52

The Smith's, Please Please Please 😢

EatenByDinosaurs · 01/05/2019 23:57

Jolene. I prefer the Dolly Parton version, DC loves the Mikey Cyrus version.
Its heartbreaking for the lead character's lack of self esteem, I know it's not real but I always find myself muttering that she deserves so much better and to let that Jolene have the waste of space. Beautiful song though.

Mammyloveswine · 01/05/2019 23:57

Love a good heartbreak playlist!

Mindy more "one moment more" is another that gets.me...

Also "beautiful boy" linked to the death of tom bridegroom... there's a Netflix documentary but it is heart breaking

Also 'Possibility' by Lykke Li is absolutely heartbreaking, makes me choke back tears every time I hear it

Justmuddlingalong · 02/05/2019 00:03

The Rose - Bette Midler
Little Sparrow - Dolly Parton

abbey44 · 02/05/2019 00:06

The Living Years by Mike & the Mechanics. I always knew this was going to describe my relationship with my Dad, and even though he lived with us in his last years and we became closer, he was of that generation that didn't do emotional stuff, quite reserved, and now when I hear that song, it really gets to me.

As does Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves - it was one of his favourites and we played it at his funeral.

And Vienna by Ultravox. Vienna was my dog, I adored her, and she died suddenly in kennels while I was away at Christmas. When the song came on the radio she used to prick up her ears.

Phew. I need to get a bit of a grip...

Nononoandno · 02/05/2019 00:09

Eva Cassidy -song bird
The song Eric Clapton write for his young son that died after that awful accident 😔

powershowerforanhour · 02/05/2019 00:14

Sinead O'Connor and Imelda May's duet of "Every night about this time".

SinkGirl · 02/05/2019 00:15

Piece by Piece when Kelly Clarkson sings it live on American Idol
The first time I heard that song I cried for about an hour. And then again the second time I heard it.

There’s also a Christina Aguillera song that crushes me since my mum died - think it’s just called Hurt.

I’m not a fan of either, but those songs kill me

powershowerforanhour · 02/05/2019 00:15

Eva Cassidy- Tall trees in Georgia
