Just curious how people choose their names and if they have any meaning. I'm a regular name changer (although I never announce the name change, feels like it defeats the purpose somewhat!) and have been on mumsnet for a couple of years.

My current one is a line from Judge Judy, I thought it was time for a change and that was the next thing i heard on the telly. I realised that it might seem like my DPs left me afterwards but that got me thinking, where do others get their names from. Anyone care to share? Smile

Title of a Jean Rhys novel. Check it out if you like depressing modernist fiction

Mummaganoush · 01/05/2019 10:28

Got into the havit of calling DD babaganoush as a baby, so if she is the baba that makes me the mumma...

maloofhoof · 01/05/2019 10:30

Mine is from an early season of The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills.

Wanted to change my username, had just reread a favourite book (Be My Enemy by Christopher Brookmyre) and would have been Sarahparlabane - she has a lead role in some of the other JP novels - but that was taken, so went for Jack instead.

The next thread I posted on I happened to 'meet' JohnLapsleyParlabane, (same chap) discussing reusable nappies of all things!

DeadDoorpost · 01/05/2019 10:33

Hyperemesis pregnancy, first pregnancy ever and I just felt wooden and dead. And like I had little use for anything

BellMcEnd · 01/05/2019 10:39

I have a v childish sense of humour plus a nod to my Scottish blood. I was once quoted in the Daily Fail after they nicked something from mn. I don’t think they got the rudeness Smile

FreeTedHastings · 01/05/2019 10:39

I change my name regularly.
I wonder if that's why I've been framed?
Many Line of Duty fans believe I've been unfairly arrested.

FookMeFookYou · 01/05/2019 10:44

Mine is from the scene with the Japanese twins in Austin Powers 😁

ItsAllGone19 · 01/05/2019 10:44

It's from The Dark Tower books...basically 19 is a recurring theme and when it all starts going badly one of the characters states it's all gone 19.

This year seems to be bringing one set of insanity after the other and there's always more "world ending" bad news being shared so it felt like an appropriate username until I make too many personal references that can be connected and change again.

JeremyCorbynsCoat · 01/05/2019 10:49

A thread where people were discussing Jeremy corbyns coat

Loyaultemelie · 01/05/2019 10:50

Richard IIIs motto and loyalty is one of my strongest personality traits.

Itsallgone19 love it, I have a long and devoted relationship with the Dark Tower saga

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 01/05/2019 10:51

I deliberately use an online random user name generator as I don't trust myself to pick something that doesn't give clues to who I am, esp since the data breaches.

EleanorLavish · 01/05/2019 10:54

From A Room With A View.
Eleanor Lavish is the novelist who writes Under a Loggia, and puts Lucy Honeychurchin it.
Played by Judi Dench in the film.

Rockbird · 01/05/2019 10:55

Debbie Harry album. Also my secret persona as I'm usually disguised as a fat, middle aged woman. You'd never know I was a rocker unless you counted my piercings.

notacooldad · 01/05/2019 10:56

Years ago DS2 was in a raged over something that we wouldn't let him do. He was about 8 at the time and that was the best insult he could come up with.
As he stomped up the stairs he was muttering 'mum can't cook chicken' in an attempt to destroy us!

That may be my next username!😂😂

Enko · 01/05/2019 10:58

Mine is a shortening of a longer name I had. It was the Danish for " A cup of Coffee thank you" but everyone just used the first 4 " Enko" so I figured I'd just change to that..

RubberTreePlant · 01/05/2019 11:02

A Sinatra song.

drspouse · 01/05/2019 11:03

Enko everyone thinks I'm Drs Pouse.

cannotmakemymindup · 01/05/2019 11:05

Because I couldn't make my mind up

BarkandCheese · 01/05/2019 11:05

It's from the Gilmore Girls, as many of my previous names have been. The corner of bark and cheese is a pavement cafe in Italy they visited, so called because the whole time they were there a small dog yapped and Rory tried ordering something in Italian (coffee probably) and got given a piece of cheese instead.

Knowivedonewrong · 01/05/2019 11:11

The lyrics to my favourite song.

Bezalelle · 01/05/2019 11:13

Mine is based on a character in the Bible/Torah who decorates the temple. Like an early interior designer!

Passtherioja · 01/05/2019 11:15

It's not a username, it's a request! 🤣 🍷

DGRossetti · 01/05/2019 11:24

Well as an anglo-Italian, and massive pre-Raphaelite fan (Highgate cemetery and Birchington level of obsession), why not ?

And if you screw your eyes up really tightly Grin

ShannonRockallMalin · 01/05/2019 11:29

From the shipping forecast on Radio 4. I find it so soothing and timeless, although I do worry about the poor fishermen when it occasionally gets up to Storm 10.
