Where did your screen name come from?

Just curious how people choose their names and if they have any meaning. I'm a regular name changer (although I never announce the name change, feels like it defeats the purpose somewhat!) and have been on mumsnet for a couple of years.

My current one is a line from Judge Judy, I thought it was time for a change and that was the next thing i heard on the telly. I realised that it might seem like my DPs left me afterwards but that got me thinking, where do others get their names from. Anyone care to share? Smile

One of many nicknames that DH and myself have for DS Grin

MrsCalypsoGrant · 01/05/2019 09:39

She's a character in my favourite Mary Wesley novel

drspouse I did wonder about your name! It's the same for me. I wondered about being Dr Calypso Grant 🤔

freshasthebrightbluesky · 01/05/2019 09:40

🎶She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everythin' was as fresh as the bright blue skyyyyyy🎶

It evolves.

I was JaySomething because that is my RL initial. This became the Mocking Jay, which became Mockers.

Thunderwing · 01/05/2019 09:44

Abbreviated from Thunderwing Doomslayer; the bird from Bottom Live - An Arse Oddity.

I heart Rik Mayall and am still devastated he is gone.

drspouse · 01/05/2019 09:45

MrsCalypso go for it.
I don't use Dr socially and hardly ever at work except occasionally to pull rank. I just remind DH about it occasionally as despite his much better academic marks I am the one with the doctorate.

Veronicat · 01/05/2019 09:45

A nickname from DP.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 01/05/2019 09:46

Chosen because i'm regularly overlooked/ignored on threads!

I can make a comment which passes everyone by then 2 mins later someone else comes along, posts the samething and gets all the kudos! Grin

adultcat · 01/05/2019 09:50

Because I'm kinda like an adult cat... Can pretty much look after myself, but need an adult to kind of look after me 😂

roley · 01/05/2019 09:51

The best character from Hey Duggee

CaptSkippy · 01/05/2019 09:52

Made up on the fly, based on a poster from another discussion board whose posts I admired.

troppibambini · 01/05/2019 09:53

Because I have too many children.
Not really but I was feeling like I was being pulled in lots of directions at the time.

troppibambini · 01/05/2019 09:53

Oh and im from an Italian family hence the Italian.

Valarmorghulisss · 01/05/2019 09:58

Changed for GoT season

MrsCalypsoGrant · 01/05/2019 10:01

drspouse my ex-wife also has a doctorate so I couldn't pull that one!

Her sister is a medical doctor, & I had their name by marriage, when all three of us were together & we received a phone call asking to speak to Dr Grant whoever answered the phone would say: "which Dr Grant do you wish to speak to, we have three to choose from, a veritable plethora of Drs Grant..." 😀

SundayMondayHappydays · 01/05/2019 10:07

@HelloCanYouHearMe
So annoying when that happens!

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 01/05/2019 10:09

I've been on here since about 2008 and had various names, all very different. Current one is due to my crush on a certain gorgeous rugby player ... 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Ohyesiam · 01/05/2019 10:09

Not sure.
Maybe it was panto season?

whitehalleve · 01/05/2019 10:11

My nickname and the area I live!

itseasybeingcheesy · 01/05/2019 10:13

Mine is a line terry crews character says in the film the longest yard. It's very random as I haven't watched the film in years but I still find it hilarious. (He's eating a cheeseburger in prison when he says it).

ILiveInSalemsLot · 01/05/2019 10:18

After I was kept awake another night by one of my little blood and soul sucking monsters.

[I totally love them really]

Thunderwing · 01/05/2019 10:18

@HelloCanYouHearMe I had considered changing my name to 'Killer of Threads' for much the same reason Grin

KelpianCasserole · 01/05/2019 10:20

Startrek Discovery. Actually spelled wrong. The Kelpien are a race that are hunted as prey and eaten for food on their home planet, hence Kelpien Casserole

Birdie6 · 01/05/2019 10:20

I was watching reruns of Mad Men when I first signed up - one of the characters has the nickname "Birdie" and I was watching an iconic scene with her in it. So Birdie it was.

YemenRoadYemen · 01/05/2019 10:25

FRIENDS-inspired at the moment.
