Did your husband ask your father’s permission before he asked you?

If possible, just a yes or no.

OP posts:
RubyJack · 29/04/2019 21:36

No

WiltedDaffs · 29/04/2019 21:38

No.

Haffdonga · 29/04/2019 21:39

No. I am not from the 18th Century and DH's name is not Mr Darcy.

bumblingbovine49 · 29/04/2019 21:40

No, not in the late 80s ( exH) or DH (early 2000s) .

I am astonished at the number of yes answers on this thread. Then again, I kept my maiden name both times, didnt want an engagement ring either time, and stopped wearing a wedding ring within a year or so of each ceremony. I am obviously not as conventional as I thought

cookiemonster3 · 29/04/2019 21:41

No. He asked my kids instead because it was our marriage (as in the kids and me marrying him) and I am not my fathers property to give away.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 29/04/2019 21:44

Yes Smile

flingingmelon · 29/04/2019 21:45

No

SaveThePangolin · 29/04/2019 21:49

No. It's interesting that nobody asked their DH's parents' permission. It's almost as if there was some sort of sexual double standard

Well, quite.

A friend of mine who got married in the 80s said she'd obey him in the vows, and I thought that was bonkers then.

SammySamSam09 · 29/04/2019 21:50

No and I think it's a really strange thing to do tbh.
I would think a lot less of my daughters partners if they ask my husband for permission to marry them, we don't own them.

DorothyBastard · 29/04/2019 21:53

No, and neither my Dad nor I would have been happy/comfortable about it if he had

Parttimewasteoftime · 29/04/2019 21:55

No

clairemcnam · 29/04/2019 21:58

No.
I suspect if DP had, my dad would have said no, as he would be appalled that any man would do this.

Blankspace4 · 29/04/2019 21:59

Costacoffeeplease · 29/04/2019 22:03

TheBulb · 29/04/2019 22:05

Of course nor. Nor did the fiancés of anyone I know.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 29/04/2019 22:06

No. Unbelievable that this concept still exists in the 21st century! 😂

SaveThePangolin · 29/04/2019 22:08

I love all the no comments on this thread. Smile

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 29/04/2019 22:11

No.
But my DH went to speak to my DF and DM and said I'm going to ask her to marry me, I'm not going to ask your permission but I'm just letting you know.
My DM said What would you do if we said No?!
DH said I'd ask her anyway.
They said Good for you.
(They all get on really well with each other!)

BeeMyBaby · 29/04/2019 22:14
