Did your husband ask your father’s permission before he asked you?

DH asked my mum for her blessing before he proposed (my dad died long before I met him). He didn’t ask permission.

Anyone I know who has had that is because they really wanted their bf to do it and made it clear they should ask them first. I love my dad but didn’t want that, it’s purely my decision.

No. But DH did tell (but not ask!) DF before we told anyone else. DF said 'No point asking me about it, I'm not going to marry you...'

He did then say congratulations ;-)

He tried. My dad wouldn't pick up his calls, or answer his texts so he asked my mum.
This was just over 6 years ago.
My dad is very socially awkward and I think panicked. He didn't come to the wedding either. But he gets along fine with DH!

Bloody ridiculous 'tradition' as the only people who should discuss whether they should get married is the two people entering into a legal contract.
