Did your husband ask your father’s permission before he asked you?

If possible, just a yes or no.

Told him he wanted to marry me.

Didnt ask his hand but his blessing. I had a child quite young and had a hard time rebuilding my life after splitting with her dad. My dad was quite concerned about me setting up shop with DH and risking losing all my independence I think.

So they had a chat dh was happy df was happy and so was I. They get on like a house on fire.

He didnt need his blessing but he wanted him to be happy for us.

80sMum · 29/04/2019 21:33

Good God, no!

He didn't need dad's permission! I was over 18 (just!) so could make my own choices. It was 1976 not 1876!
