The secrets of overweight people

I mean this in a light-hearted way, but I guess it might also be helpful to us to see where we're getting it from.

I'll start:

I always serve myself the largest portion, and often nick a few extra bites in between the cooking and serving stages.

I eat a full meal whether I am particularly hungry or not (then often have seconds).

I gave up sugar and doubled my cheese intake (then I went back on sugar too).

Speaking of which, no meal is not improved by a generous topping of grated cheese.

I could quite happily drink a bottle of wine a night, although I don't let myself. On my 'good' nights I drink hot chocolate/ couple of beers and eat crisps instead.

Sometimes if nobody has seen me eat my first slice of toast, I'll put a third one in. This is especially the case when it's white bread, the 'only one' I could buy in the corner shop.

When DH is away I love to read and eat chocolate in bed.

Anyone else got any good tips to help me continue to sabotage my weight loss efforts?

Whole pack of biscuits with brews?

Calorie laden take out drinks?

Eating the kids Easter eggs

ColouringPencils · 22/04/2019 22:34

I invented this great sandwich:
White bread, butter, cheddar, mini cheddars, mayo. Maybe a little bit of lettuce or cucumber. So delicious you have to make a second one.

I don’t eat 3 meals every day, either breakfast and dinner on days off or lunch and dinner when I’m working.
Tablets I take make me gain weight, luckily with all the excercise I do my weight is always between 16/17 stone, I don’t smoke or drink. Eat healthily.... being over weight doesn’t Al2ays mean you eat too much.

Rockbird · 22/04/2019 22:42

I can't have two slices of toast, I have to have four. And I might have something while I'm waiting for the toaster. I often skip the proper meals, then make more toast much later on in the evening when everyone is in bed. My portion control is way out of it's something like pasta. Basically I stuff myself with carbs. If I stopped eating carbs I'd be half the size, but I just can't stop.

QuestionableMouse · 22/04/2019 22:43

Eh I'm a fatty and do none of that stuff. I do tend to miss proper meals and pick at not so healthy food though.

ANiceLuxury · 22/04/2019 22:46

I buy a box of french fancies at the supermarket and eat them all in the car before I set off home

I eat the school snacks so I buy 3 times more than we need.

I eat massive bags of crisp in front of the telly

grumpyyetgorgeous · 22/04/2019 22:46

Look I'm hugely overweight, quite a bit heavier than you so not preaching but honestly, in my experience being several stone overweight does indicate that your body is getting more calories than it needs. I appear to eat very little and people often express surprise at my small portions but the truth is I'm a grazer, a nibble here, a biscuit there, a creamy hot drink. They all add up and it's easy to fool yourself.

I also second the thought that no meal can't be improved with grated cheese on top Grin

LetsDialDownTheIanPaisley · 22/04/2019 22:50

Eating a whole tub of ice cream is easy

Food doesn't count if you've eaten it standing in the kitchen and nobody seen you

1 packet of biscuits = 1 serving

Same with 1 bottle of wine

Same with packet of Doritos

What are 'leftovers'?

Only eat salad at work

ReallyReallyNo · 22/04/2019 22:50

Maccy D’s
KFC
Dominoes
Chinese
At least 3-4 times a week.
I am addicted to the stuff, shoot me now.

BroomstickOfLove · 22/04/2019 22:54

I dieted after I had DC2, and I started doing that starve/binge weight gain cycle. Now I eat too much to stay a healthy weight, but I am maintaining the weight I am without trying, which is better than the whole dieting leading to weight gain thing.

So actually, my secret to weight gain is dieting.

motortroll · 22/04/2019 22:59

I am addicted to cake. I can continue to eat cake even when I think I might throw up. Even if I buy a healthy alternative (eg cereal bars) I can quite happily eat the whole packet. Which is less that a packet of cake but also not as satisfying so I might have a cake as well.

isittheholidaysyet · 22/04/2019 23:05

I only eat when I am hungry (all the time)

I stop eating when I feel full. (Never)

Basically.

(The only time I feel full is when heavily pregnant. Then I can eat a normal sized portion and actually struggle to finish. It is an interesting sensation to experience.)

FissionChips · 22/04/2019 23:06

I invented this great sandwich:
White bread, butter, cheddar, mini cheddars, mayo. Maybe a little bit of lettuce or cucumber

This reminds me of the days when I used to eat a macaroni cheese pie in a buttered morning roll. Fucking delicious.

HildaAlida · 22/04/2019 23:10

Ah here you all are.
Yep I can eat cake and chocolate long after I think I feel sick. The pleasure of the sensation of consuming it is greater than the nausea, its so weird.
The secret of being overweight for me is bingeing.

I'm surrently on SW, I'm 8 lbs down and haven't binged on cake/chocolate for 7 weeks. Wish me luck.

OldAndWornOut · 22/04/2019 23:19

I eat loads!!
I even surprise myself sometimes at how greedy I can be.
Crisps, cheese, nuts; I love the whole eating experience, it's almost erotic to me.

chandylier · 22/04/2019 23:44

Bloody hell
I don’t do any of this stuff.
I could eat 2 packets of crisps

BlondeBumshelll · 22/04/2019 23:53

Skip breakfast

Shop bought sandwich/subway for lunch

Chinese for dinner

Bag of share sweets in the evening.

Job done.

Gingernaut · 22/04/2019 23:59

My favourite sandwich.

Crunchy wholenut peanut butter, mashed with chilli powder, garlic purée and black pepper spread across thick sliced, lightly toasted granary bread with four or five spring onions, cut lengthways.

Yum.

On a school night, I skip the garlic.

Zoflorabore · 22/04/2019 23:59

I've found my people.

I was talking to my ( very slim ) best friend recently about this as was shocked that often when someone is offered food i.e. A snack/meal/dinner whatever on TV they will say "I'm not hungry"

I'm 41 and don't think I've ever said those three words in my life Grin

BF eats like a horse and can't gain a pound and hates her size. I am also addicted to strawberry Pop Tarts....

Flower777 · 23/04/2019 00:01

OP can we be friends? I feel like we would get on. I can relate to many of the things you said.

I eat too much, too often. I eat loads and am fat. I don’t drink so it’s all food.

Will it ever change?

smallereveryday · 23/04/2019 07:50

I was also fat from medication. (Steroids) but there is no medication that makes you gain weight.. just medication that makes you so fucking hungry that you could eat a house.. medication makes you hungry, you eat too much and end up obese.
I could wake up in the middle of the night so hungry I would toast an entire loaf of bread.
Knew things were out of control when I found myself waiting outside the bakery for the next batch of pies to cook !
Put on 8 stone in 9 years. Have been lucky though and was referred to NHS obesity surgery and had a sleeve in November. Am now back to 12 stone and the Alien phrase 'no thanks I'm full ' has reappeared in my vocabulary !

nrpmum · 23/04/2019 07:53

Underactive thyroid, so I look at cake and put on half a stone. Jealous of those able to eat more than 1200 calories to put on weight!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/04/2019 07:54

I never forget to eat.

In books, the willowy heroine is always forgetting to eat because of some trauma or other. I keep waiting for the day when I forget to eat but it hasn't happened yet Sad

And (lighthearted) I want to punch those celebrity women who say that the baby weight just fell off while breastfeeding.

Zoflorabore · 23/04/2019 08:02

I also never forget to eat, even though I'm very scatty due to having fibromyalgia :)

I'm always thinking about the next meal and take lots of pleasure in food shopping, planning and cooking.

I also have to have a full fridge or don't feel right.
I have several people who visit me who love to look in my fridge as it's apparently fascinating.... fuck knows what that means.
