I mean this in a light-hearted way, but I guess it might also be helpful to us to see where we're getting it from.

I'll start:

I always serve myself the largest portion, and often nick a few extra bites in between the cooking and serving stages.

I eat a full meal whether I am particularly hungry or not (then often have seconds).

I gave up sugar and doubled my cheese intake (then I went back on sugar too).

Speaking of which, no meal is not improved by a generous topping of grated cheese.

I could quite happily drink a bottle of wine a night, although I don't let myself. On my 'good' nights I drink hot chocolate/ couple of beers and eat crisps instead.

Sometimes if nobody has seen me eat my first slice of toast, I'll put a third one in. This is especially the case when it's white bread, the 'only one' I could buy in the corner shop.

When DH is away I love to read and eat chocolate in bed.

Anyone else got any good tips to help me continue to sabotage my weight loss efforts?

Also, if you have one square of chocolate from a large bar, you have to finish off the row, otherwise the bar looks wonky and is hard to store. By the same token Easter eggs have to be eaten at minimum one half at a time in order to ensure a smooth edge.

The book ‘brain over binge’ is very good.

I was so hopeful when I got this book. The idea that I could "solve" my food issues without first dealing with all the childhood crap and abuses etc was very tempting. I didn't end up finding it helpful, unfortunately. I kind of came out from reading with a feeling it was just so many words of saying "Just Stop Doing It". It's been a good few years since I read it, so maybe I should give it another chance to see if I'm in a better place for it now.

I'm "being good" at the moment with my eating. MFP logging, Huel, fruit and veg, meal times etc. I can't seem to get much enjoyment or sense of accomplishment from this, however. The (potentially self-fulfilling prophecy of the) next binge and loss of control is stalking me like a fatberg demon.

I actually just started reading the book that @thenewaveragebear1983 recommended- which is free on kindle. It's similar to brain over binge but a bit more directive- ie it suggests that you do have some broad principles that you follow but in a more chilled out way than a diet. That might be more useful @WhatNowRandy ? I think with all of this stuff it's about finding an approach that works best for you- that's the Hope hope any of us have for achieving and sustaining a healthy weight.

I joke (insert hollow laugh) that I live in an obesogenic house: I have sporty energetic DCs and a tall, active DH. I am short and plump and I love carbs. I enjoy cooking for and feeding my family, I actually get a buzz from it. We’re pescatarian and I mostly cook healthy balanced meals from scratch.

I’ve kept food diaries before which really help me - although the vast amount of what I eat is pretty healthy it’s just too much for me, especially the carbs. I’m basically like a native pony who can survive on a few blades of grass on the side of a mountain. It’s all very tedious as I love eating. I’m now doing the 16:8 in conjunction with low carbing and walking more which seems to really be working for me although I still have a way to go.

I wish I was more like my mum who looks amazing at 72. She’s just not interested in food, she eats because she has to. I, on the other hand could eat pretty much constantly Hmm.

Driving calories do not count. Whole bag of haribo... doesn't count

Gone2far · 30/04/2019 13:38

Yes, whatever you eat in the car doesn't count.
Seriously, if you're wanting to change, i'd strongly recommend Overeaters Anonymous. Please disregard this if you're OK with overeating. And i'm not judging anyone, as i'm dealing with what I now see as an unhealthy relationship with food that I've had for decades. But OA is really helping.

PegLegAntoine · 30/04/2019 19:20

I’m definitely up for the food addict thread mentioned earlier.

Another tip is, go somewhere with an all you can eat/unlimited fizzy type deal and feel the pressure to make the most of it. Eating just one plate/glass would be a waste of money, right?

I thought about this one as I managed to massively cut down on what I’d usually have yesterday.

vickibee · 01/05/2019 09:13

@PegLegAntoine
We are going on an All Inclusive Holiday soon so it would be a waste of money not to make the most of 'free' food and drink. Prob come home half a stone more LOL

I was referred to a dietician who I said first off that I couldn’t eat wheat or dairy.

His options were for breakfast
“Wheatabix” with semi skimmed milk.

I repeated that I couldn’t eat wheat or dairy and he genuinely seemed surprised that wheatabix contained wheat and semi skimmed milk was dairy.

He then suggested a round of cheese on toast.

With a sandwich for lunch.

You couldn’t make it up

Well I suspect that precisely what you have done here. Perhaps even subconsciously. You are looking for a reason as to why you eat so little but weigh 200 pounds. Telling us stories such as this indicates to me that you are telling us (and yourself) similarly fictional stories about what you actually eat

ImNotNigel · 10/05/2019 22:08

Are you a dietician Schoolques? You seem to be taking this rather personally.

Also you are missing the point of thread - we are sharing our tips to stay over weight. Do you have some good suggestions to share or are you just here to sneer and cast aspersions ? Because most of us have had quite enough of that, thank you very much.

Propertywoes · 11/05/2019 09:10

It's better to get rid of the sugary stuff all in one go as then it's not hanging around. Then when you've got no more in the house, go and buy more.
