Crazy money spent by you or someone you know

I'm talking spending £10k on dinner for 2 or £30k on 3 bottles of wine (not investments just to drink) etc?

Anyone got any good stories of shocking amounts of money they (or people in their company) have spent? Houses and cars don't count.

I've only ever seen this on tv shows with one exception.

I don't think I'd ever have so much money I could drop £1,000 on a yoga mat etc

£500 on a pair of Prada glasses.

Nnnnnineteen · 17/04/2019 22:53

Shan't say as outing but a 'potential suitor' sent me and dc v expensive presents ieo £1000. I sent them back and he resent them.

Happyspud · 17/04/2019 22:56

The expense account for my team was £150k. I controlled it. Does that count?

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/04/2019 22:57

I've been out on a record company jolly to an amazing restaurant in Madrid. The record company paid for everyone including roadies and hangers on (me) and we ordered as we wished (food and drink). It was thousands and thousands for one meal. Fun though.

Boss spent $20,000 on a case of wine at a blind tasting charity auction thing, it later revealed that it was worth about £10 a bottle 😂

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 17/04/2019 23:22

I recently saw the auction items list for a charity fundraising ball in the US. There was a weekend in a ski lodge for with a guide of $50k. It exceeded the guide.

BrylcreamBeret · 17/04/2019 23:27

I was sleep deprived once and I spent £50 on a skateboard backpack because it had a Slipknot logo on it. I still get mardy arsed about that £50 now 13 years later. I'm sure this example isn't what you had in mind op Grin

BadLad · 18/04/2019 01:58

I spent 5,000 euros on two coats.

Time40 · 18/04/2019 02:41

I've got form for spending thousands on restoring totally worthless old cars, because I'm a sentimental idiot.

Azitii · 18/04/2019 02:51

Years ago I was an assistant for a semi well knownish rich wanker person. I was once dispatched to spend thousands on a couple of fancy pens, pens! Posh pens, but still, they didn't do anything fancier then my chewed up biro did. My face was Hmm for the whole time.

BlackCatSleeping · 18/04/2019 02:58

My Ex spend almost 8,000 pounds on a watch. He also lost 7,000 pounds on a stupid high-risk investment scheme. Yeah, he was crap with money. He then went on and on about how I spent 30 pounds on a handbag as if I was the most frivolous person he ever met.

SapphireSeptember · 18/04/2019 03:35

I honestly dread to think how much money I've spent on make-up over the past 11 years. (We're talking thousands.) I could have done something 'useful' with it, but nah, shiny things! Even more wasteful when you think about what I've given away over the years.

Also in the process of spending £615 on going to wizard school (I'm paying in instalments.) Apparently this is excessive for a 72 hour event. (Someone actually said I should go to Magaluf for a week instead! I am not the kind of person who wants to go to Magaluf. Hmm Clearly they don't know me very well!)

Al2O3 · 18/04/2019 04:16

Anytime I pull into Gloucester South services.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 18/04/2019 04:54

@SapphireSeptember

I always wondered whether Hogwarts had any fees aside for school supplies.

SapphireSeptember · 18/04/2019 05:09

Hogwarts is free to attend, you just have to fork out for everything else. It doesn't say the cloak and robes can't be home-made though, and everything else could be second-hand. (Going by the book here, the uniforms in the film really bugged me. Confused )

Bothwell isn't free though. Grin I suppose this is more like wizard university as it's for over 18s.

MidnightLavender · 18/04/2019 05:19

I once spent £28,000 on university fees Shock.

Ellenborough · 18/04/2019 05:44

This thread is very funny. 😂

booksandcaffeine · 18/04/2019 05:53

I spent over £300 on my new glasses recently... I did save some money though as the actual total was £502.

WelcomeToIdiotIsland · 18/04/2019 07:27

(Name changed for this as I was widely derided)

I spent £800 on super-light rimless varifocals with extra-thin lenses

I subsequently ran them over* in a Volvo

WelcomeToIdiotIsland · 18/04/2019 07:28

Weird use of bold there. So much for asterisks.

Villanellesproudmum · 18/04/2019 07:31

I’ve spent £45 on eazi gliders for my sofa from DFS when they are £5.99 on Amazon, robbing bar stools. Does that count?

Villanellesproudmum · 18/04/2019 07:33

Oh and agree with Gloucester South service station! I seem to buy lots of little square crumbly biscuits, fancy coffee and dog treats which come to £1000s at the till.

KateyKube · 18/04/2019 07:36

£500 on a pair of Prada glasses
That’s how much prescription glasses usually cost?

SIL spent £3.5k on a plain gold love bracelet from Cartier. My diamond engagement ring didn’t even cost that much. I have no idea how she afforded it because she’s just a normal person like us.

SimonJT · 18/04/2019 07:39

I spent £1,800 on a buttonless Versace silk shirt as a gift for an ex, when he posted a picture of himself wearing it he was sent three free ones from Versace. Should have kept the receipt!

Basilneedswaterandsun · 18/04/2019 07:43

My sister in law spent £10k on a ONE DAY trip out on a yacht in the med. It was a brilliant day though. She also paid for lunch.
