Crazy money spent by you or someone you know

I'm talking spending £10k on dinner for 2 or £30k on 3 bottles of wine (not investments just to drink) etc?

Anyone got any good stories of shocking amounts of money they (or people in their company) have spent? Houses and cars don't count.

I've only ever seen this on tv shows with one exception.

I don't think I'd ever have so much money I could drop £1,000 on a yoga mat etc

$23 for a bag of Cheetos & a pack of M&Ms in Cancun airport 😣

cricketmum84 · 18/04/2019 18:45

£500 on a pair of Prada glasses
That’s how much prescription glasses usually cost?

You should have gone to spec savers! Grin

OooohAhhhhh · 18/04/2019 18:47

Definitely cricket, mine were £30.

My best veg knife is one I bought in a Super-U supermarket in France when we were on holiday and our Eurocamp caravan didn't have one. I've used that thing every day since 2011 and don't think I've ever sharpened it once. Doubt it cost more than 5 euro.

Theninjawhinger · 18/04/2019 18:51

My ex spent £120k on a Porsche..... he had an amazing watch that had bits of the titanic in it that was £32k too. His entire watch collection cost more than my house.

ChidiAnnaKendrick · 18/04/2019 18:52

I spent £2 on a whippy ice cream today, that was daylight robbery!

April241 · 18/04/2019 18:59

I bought a £930 handbag last December although got it in the sale for £650. Chuffed!

I've used it twice though as its not one I can take to work (or would want to) so I use it for days and nights out without the kids...also few and far between.

Let's be honest, I just take it out and look at it every so often.

Dh and I like to go to music gigs - we particularly like little bands who play smaller venues and ticket prices can be quite cheap (anything between 15 and 30 quid)

But 2 years ago there were 2 bands who played in the UK that we really really liked and really really wanted to see. Ticket prices were enormous (to us) and both events in London and virtually within a month of each other. By the time we paid tickets (1 gig was 160 quid each) trains, hotels, beers, obligatory t-shirt we probably blew 1.5k.

1 band swore they would never play together again when they split so them being on stage together was huge - the 2nd bands lead singer sadly passed away about 6 weeks after we had seen them. I dont regret a penny.

I've just remembered another one! I really, really wanted to see Evanescence play Synthesis live, the tickets sold out really quickly and my mum got me one on a resale site. I think it was roughly £140! (Originally should have been £73.) I paid half back and the rest was a birthday/Christmas present. (Considering the previous year's ticket to see them was £43.50 I'd say that's a lot of money.)

Could have been worse, could have been £300 like Adel concerts are. Hmm

Youngandfree · 18/04/2019 22:44

The craziest money I’ve ever spent was
800 on a night in a hotel (for 2)
125 each on a 7 course dinner
300 on a pair of shoes
595 on a bag
Not that crazy but the my are some of my bigger splurges I suppose

Gobbledygoo · 18/04/2019 23:01

£350 to have a ‘meet and greet’ a quick hello and photo (less than 2 minutes in the room with them) with my favourite band, waited decades to meet them so it was worth every penny to me.

puppymouse · 18/04/2019 23:08

£1000 on a handbag Blush

MT2017 · 18/04/2019 23:14

@zod1ac19

Yep! I was Shock Shock Shock at the cost...

devilinme · 18/04/2019 23:15

£1000 on a kitten found in the street on holiday getting it back to UK.

Cost more than my two Siamese put together

It's not really crazy money, but DH thought I was crazy when I bought a £100 Mason Pearson hairbrush. He still brings that up, but they are honestly amazing and I wouldn't use anything else.

ColdCottage · 19/04/2019 19:42

I think £5,500 on 12 Christmas cards is my most 😮.

£1.5k on a handbag 10 years ago. Same bag now sells for nearly £4k. I don't regret it. I slogged my arse off to put money aside to buy it and I still love it! Grin

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 19/04/2019 20:03

I have only read the first few posts but I have a relative who recently spent the same on a garage for their car that (in another town) could buy a whole house!

Ohhellothereladyface · 19/04/2019 20:07

How the hell do you spend £12,000 on Christmas cards?! Genuinely interested to hear more on this?!

Ohhellothereladyface · 19/04/2019 20:07

Sorry £5000 on 12 Christmas cards!

mustdrinkwaternotwine · 19/04/2019 20:16

Some of my colleagues spent ludicrous amounts of their weddings. One chap spent £10k on the invitations and a similar amount on a consultant who came up with a new surname for them which apparently combined elements of each of their existing surnames and also had a good aura.

VelvetSpoon · 19/04/2019 20:16

My bf paid £500 for us to stay in the Shard for one night. I'm v careful tight with money so that seemed like a massive extravagance to me.

BlueMerchant · 19/04/2019 20:20

As a jobless student I spent £80 on a purple cushion as it matched my room perfectly.
