Crazy money spent by you or someone you know

I'm talking spending £10k on dinner for 2 or £30k on 3 bottles of wine (not investments just to drink) etc?

Anyone got any good stories of shocking amounts of money they (or people in their company) have spent? Houses and cars don't count.

I've only ever seen this on tv shows with one exception.

I don't think I'd ever have so much money I could drop £1,000 on a yoga mat etc

Not us, unless you count the £900 hifi I impulse bought on interest free credit when we went into Currys to buy a kettle or something similar years ago. I'm not even particularly into music or big showy things like that.

But DP works in the events industry and has worked on ridiculously extravagent parties etc. The most notable one is an annual party of a fairly prominent businessman, that must have a budget that makes most weddings look like a kids tea party.

Majority outing but I went on a sales incentive to Marbella many many moons ago. We spent a day at one of those beach clubs that often appear in the tabloids for crazy spending and we got through a number of bottle of champagne and £600 bottles of vodka. We ended up having to leave as the MD passed out and took it with us.

Getting the plane the next day we only had carry on luggage and due to the liquids ban (plus it was in a really cool bottle) one of my then colleagues decanted all £600 worth of this vodka into a plant pot so he could take it back to the UK.

Not the point but I thought Hogwarts had fees? Doesn’t Uncle Vernon say ‘I’m not paying for some crackpot to teach him’ or something like that? I thought it was modelled on a private boarding school

cheesenpickles · 18/04/2019 07:55

@Sunshine1235 I think they'd have to pay. Remember Harry had the Gringot vault filled with coins and is imagine the Weasleys got a fair amount of sibling discount.

Blackandpurple · 18/04/2019 08:00

Not huge spending but my best friend and her dh and 3 kids went to a posh hotel for 2 weeks in Cancun. She told me she paid £7000 and she works had to pay for her holiday every year - which i don’t doubt at all.

But she doesnt know that you was told by her mum that she paid for it as a treat after her dad died. Her mum tells me a lot of things and my friend has no idea 😂

nighttimebrowser · 18/04/2019 08:24

How the hell do you spend £10k on a dinner? What a rip off, I think some rich people have more money than sense 😂😂😂

WherestheDog · 18/04/2019 08:28

A mate of DS's spent £1000 on a steak encased in gold leaf.
He's a flash prat though.

cheesenpickles · 18/04/2019 08:31

@WherestheDog lol what a prick Grin

Disappearedtothe80s · 18/04/2019 08:46

I spent £4k on an oven back in 2005.

Disappearedtothe80s · 18/04/2019 08:48

My mum used to spend £££ on rings even though she couldn't wear them because of her arthritis lucky I am the only daughter

Costacoffeeplease · 18/04/2019 08:56

I bought a £2000 orange juicer last year

NiteFlights · 18/04/2019 08:57

I once spent £150 on a bag which was too heavy to carry even when empty and after using it once, felt so bad about it I gave it to a charity shop.

ImHastingsDarling · 18/04/2019 09:07

20k on my bday weekend to Paris for me and some friends Blush

mummyhaschangedhername · 18/04/2019 09:49

Last year we spent nearly £40 on pick and mix from Silverstone. My husband reminds me of this often! 🙈 (we have four children and they all chose something as did my husband and I, but still).

ACPC · 18/04/2019 09:53

Spent 6.00 on a taxi to go two metres along the street in Edinburgh as I was so drunk I couldn't find the entrance to my hotel Blush

Pinkprincess1978 · 18/04/2019 10:01

@ACPC

😂😂😀 this is so funny!

See I could never be rich as I could t spend so much money on some things. Although I love the idea of wizard school!

I've often said if we won millions on the lottery my DH and I would probably split as we have different spending ideas.

HiGunny · 18/04/2019 10:10

Someone I know spent €40k on speakers. And thousands on cables for them.

The same person spends a few hundred euro every weekend dining out. They keep moaning about not being able to afford a nicer house...they could be mortgage free at this stage on a nicer house if they just stopped the silly spending Confused

MrsChanandlerBongg · 18/04/2019 10:16

Tattoos. Between DP and I, thousands.

HollowTalk · 18/04/2019 10:19

Do you remember this when the city dealers lost their jobs because they they put a meal on expenses?

magicstar1 · 18/04/2019 10:36

The only thing we really splashed out on was 8k for 5 nights on an island in Great Barrier Reef

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 18/04/2019 13:03

Costacoffeeplease, was it an original. Philippe Starck??

QueenMabby · 18/04/2019 13:11

DH and I spent £20k on our honeymoon, hated the second hotel we stayed in and paid another £5k to move somewhere else for 7 nights.... 🙈

HollowTalk · 18/04/2019 14:06

What was wrong with the hotel?

Noninonino · 18/04/2019 14:10

Over £5500 on Christmas card, not me!

FairNotFair · 18/04/2019 15:24

Is that ONE "Christmas card", Noni, or lots of Christmas cards?
