Crazy money spent by you or someone you know

I'm talking spending £10k on dinner for 2 or £30k on 3 bottles of wine (not investments just to drink) etc?

Anyone got any good stories of shocking amounts of money they (or people in their company) have spent? Houses and cars don't count.

I've only ever seen this on tv shows with one exception.

I don't think I'd ever have so much money I could drop £1,000 on a yoga mat etc

Greyeye - love that! I once got a kitchen designed to suit the enormous fish tank I'd ended up with (for two goldfish who just went on and on and on and kept outgrowing their tank). To be fair the kitchen didn't cost any more but was never eat-in because of it. I miss my fish, fish are lovely.

About £1000 on online grocery orders in a single week. That was someone mentally unwell though. Sad

GenevaMaybe · 20/04/2019 19:03

$1000 on front row tickets for Celine Dion in Vegas. Was brilliant.

Ellenborough · 20/04/2019 19:12

I didn't think I had anything to contribute to this thread but I've just remembered my 500 quid Japanese rice cooker.

It makes amazing rice though. As you would expect. So thank fuck for that, at least.

pinegreen · 20/04/2019 19:19

We spent £2,000 a night on safari in South Africa, not including tips for staff. I felt pretty bad about that, although it was amazing.

Alarae · 20/04/2019 19:30

Largest cost is 5k for the two of us to go to Canada. It was amazing though and don't regret a penny.

Did spend £350 on a pair of spiked Louboutin Bianca heels when I passed my first qualification. Love them to pieces, but I'm too precious with them to wear them outside and they are a bit much for client meetings now!

They sit sadly in the boot of my car. Still love them though.

ColdCottage · 20/04/2019 20:17

@Ellenborough I need a link to a £500 rice cooker.

I have been known to spend a small fortune on red-soled shoes... all nine pairs of them.

Disclaimer, it was pre-DS. Now I've spent the equivalent on a holiday in August.

CurlyMango · 20/04/2019 22:38

Garden ornament £2k.

WokenUp · 20/04/2019 22:44

A sculpture - 50k :)

cakeallday · 21/04/2019 07:08

£15 each per beer in Barcelona (20 years ago, so quite a lot). When the barman said, "grande?", we said, "Si!" like fools. And then when the massive beers came, all the locals laughed Grin

mathanxiety · 21/04/2019 07:24

I know someone from Dublin who went to a wild party with a few friends in 1975 or 76 and woke up in a ringside seat in Las Vegas watching Ron Lyle going 11 rounds against Muhammed Ali.

stopitandtidyupp · 21/04/2019 07:37

£1200 on a Louis Vuitton hand bag bought on Rodeo Drive. I think I thought I was Julia Roberts.

Same again in several LV shops.
I have since sold them.

20k on a wedding that lasted two years.

Would love that money now.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 21/04/2019 08:07

In 1987, late at night - I was 17 - two coffees in Florence for £20. It cleaned me out but it was my first experience of alcohol and I was on holiday with my parents and had to sober up before returning to the hotel.

Ellenborough · 21/04/2019 11:20

cold it's a Zojirushi, here...

www.zojirushi.com/app/category/rice-cookers

Mine is the induction one. The model that is induction plus pressure cooking combined is even more expensive, about 800 quid I think. Shock

I bought it in Asia. I don't you can get the same models in the UK.

Madhousemam · 21/04/2019 14:41

We spent over 1k to spend a night in a hotel last year then a trip to harrods cost us over 1k on one bottle of parfum and around £500 on 1 eye shadow and 2 lipsticks worth every penny off it all tho

Madbengalmum · 21/04/2019 18:22

Wokenup, for you!

Unclebuck3 · 21/04/2019 18:36

I worked at a private members club in London years ago. I always thought celebrities would be the highest spenders but they are tight compared to the Saudi royal family Shock

The male members would regularly spend upwards of 200 thousand on a single dinner. The most expensive wines, champagne, cognac and cigars as well as god knows how much on the cocaine and prostitutes they provided for whatever guest they were wining and dining. The actual royal would never touch the money but had an assistant who would pay for everything from his own pocket. Apparently these assistants are paid about 10 million a month but have to pay for whatever the prince wants from this money. Also the actual bill would be around 50,000, but they would always tip around 4 times that amount on top.

misper · 21/04/2019 18:45

I just spent £24 on a toilet brush. Impulse purchase!
Worst thing was when I got home and realised I had a gift card for the store that I could've used.

misper · 21/04/2019 18:46

I haven't used it yet as I don't want to get it dirty Blush

Theninjawhinger · 21/04/2019 19:37

Unclebuck my ex’s family is Middle Eastern oil money..... it’s a different world!

WokenUp · 21/04/2019 20:17

Madbengalmum thank you! Lovely Grin

Titsywoo · 21/04/2019 21:47

I'm quite a tight-arse even though we earn quite a lot of money. We did spend £7k for xmas in New York and £3.2k to see Phil Collins a couple of years ago (to be fair it was for a box for 8 people and we got food and wine free all night).

utterflapdoodle · 21/04/2019 22:32

Blimey, where to start...

70k redecorating my living room including six dining chairs that cost 2k each,
30k on a one week holiday in South Africa,
7k on a first class flight to Australia,
2k a night for an amazing hotel in California,
1k on a dinner for two.

I realise I am obscenely extravagant but I'm single and have no DC. I earn it, I spend it, I enjoy it.

ColdCottage · 22/04/2019 00:08

@Unclebuck3 that is insane. What sort of tips did you take home? Best night tip income?

I heard bunny's at the playboy club get £££ in tips even when shared out.
